Saw shoes online that I liked. Went into the store to try them on. Online they were 29.99 with code swimsuit. Wait 15 minutes on the ONE line open and get up the to register and they won't apply the discount code, so they are $10.00 more $39.99 . Go back home to order online and pick up at the store, since I KNOW they are there. Online tells me I have to "ship to store" because they were not in stock, for $9.00. Unbelievable. I was shopping for a new purse, and remembered this store had a great selection. Even better, purses were all 30% off, and Liz Claiborne were 40% off. I had a hard time deciding, but finally found a good one. The best part was I had a $10 reward when I put in my phone number for my Penney's reward account, so it does pay to sign up. I have also found good deals on clothing. Tucked on the side of the mall, I tend to forget it is here. I even found parking near their side entrance. I came to return my online order. The sign on the entrance did say that returns were handled at the counter near the Men's shoes. Okay...so this was my first time to Pacific View Mall and my first time to JCPenny. There was no directory near the escalator to indicate the layout of the store or which floor the departments were on. So I did walk up to the nearest checkout counter and the clerk told me it was upstairs. Later after getting ready to leave the store I did see a not so obvious placed sign at the same counter that said "return counter upstairs by the men's shoes". After returning my online order, which was handled rather smoothly; I decided to check out the women's clothing. I saw the Levi's section had a huge sale of buy one get 50% off a second item. So I ended up buying 3 pairs of jeans and a pair of shorts. After the sale discount o paid $186. That seemed like a pretty decent price to me. The only other annoyance was that I walked from women section to section trying to locate a dressing room only to discover each section's dressing room was closed and only said "closed but don't worry there is another dressing room nearby". So I ended up making a complete circle back near the Levi's section only to find out the only dressing room open was in the Women's plus size. It would have been very helpful for them just to put that the dressing room was in the women's plus size department. read more

DO NOT BUY FURNITURE WARRANTIES!!! We bought a couch from JCPenny and we were sold the 5 year warranty. Everything met the requirements for the warranty and they said they were sending a tech to look at the couch. Tech never showed up. I get an email saying after the tech evaluation, that it was not covered under warranty. The process of filling out the claim is not worth it, the customer service of the warranty company is absolutely awful, and then JCPenny of course is going to say that there is nothing they can do. It's up to the warranty company. Do not make the mistake of buying warranties from here. It is a nightmare and an absolute ripoff!! read more

I've been going to the mall more often, trying to update my wardrobe. I was so proud of myself when I donated of a huge bag of clothes from my closet . Now, time to replace those clothes by going shopping! JC Penney prices are usually reasonable, and I love the clearance section. I have already found a variety of nice shirts that were discounted by a good amount. You may have to really work hard by going hanger by hanger through the racks to find an item in your style and size, but it's worth it for finding a good deal! I also like the changing rooms. There's no item limit as far as I could tell, and I've never had to wait very long to try on clothes. The only thing is that it takes awhile to check out. The lines can be long depending on when you're checking out - and they have to go through their spiel about the store credit card and all - but I don't mind being patient for a good deal. read more

The deals are there but I feel like they sell some of the cheaper product line items here. For example, getting the best coffee machine or pan set might not be an option. They have a lot of the "mid-tier" product lines here I would say. if you come here, try to see if you can stack coupons. I also found that picking up in store and buying online is easier to add multiple coupon codes together to see if they can be mixed. read more

I had not been inside the JC Penney store in a while and today I decided to stop and see if I could find any good deals. They actually had so many good deals I was impressed. The quality of the clothes for the most part is really good for the prices! Service was ok, not really friendly but at least not rude. They have something for the whole family here. I have been trying to resolve an issue with the JC Penney furniture escalations department since December 19, 2020. Representatives of that department have twice promised me specific resolutions since February 4, 2021. They have taken back their promises twice and then lied to me. The person working the case (Latoya) is never available. No one will connect me to her supervisor. I call 1-2 times a week and whoever I speak to tells me that they will email Latoya (which I assume they do). No one gets back to me, and we repeat the process EVERY WEEK. My husband and I tend to come to this store to buy pants. We like their selection and they always have stuff in his size. I need women's "Tall" pants and they sometimes have those, but usually I just try on the regular size to find the waist that fits me and then order from their online website to get the length I need. I appreciate that they do carry brands that come in Tall sizes, though. This store is conveniently located in the Pacific View Mall in Ventura. I like that it's right next to the multi-story parking garage so I can park with shade when I shop. As someone else commented, the store doesn't have sales going anymore, but they used to be going all the time and seemed kind of pointless to me. The prices are the same as they used to be - cheap. And the store still has a good selection of styles and sizes. I shop here as much as I did before they made that change. read more

Our JC Penney PORTRAIT STUDIO visit went without a hitch and was actually a PLEASURABLE experience! Very different from fellow yelper Vanessa B.'s 1* rant, happy to say. Reservations were made online 2 nights before. Best place to park in the Pacific View Mall is in the parking structure. So you enter the store, any signs on the 1st floor to point you in the correct path? Not right now! DOH! Gotta head up to the Second Floor of JC Penney, in the Men's Department, specifically men's shoes. Why ya gots to be on da low low?!?! There were actually quite a few families all fancied up doin' the picture thang when we arrived. Friendly check-in was quick. Wait time for our session to start was under 30 minutes. Just so you know, our extended family has an impatient grumpy grandpa and an autistic 7 y/o young'in, so a bit of empathy and patience always serve us well. Long overdue extended family portraits, let's get 'er done!!! Who had the daunting task of dealing with our drama today? Crystal (photographer) & Laura (picture manager, name pronounced with full on Hispanic accent) were our guides as we went through the motions today. Crystal was so good, she made my Pops quite happy he was there, AND impressed him with her camera skilz! Lots of patience, too. Hats off to ya, Gurl! Probably even more difficult is trying to get everyone to agree which pictures to select, which we do soon after the pictures are taken. "Lao-rrra" is so energetic & upbeat that it's quite infectious! This made the selection process MUCH easier than it should have been, lol! It'll take about three weeks before our entire purchase is finished. Hopefully, that goes just as smoothly as everything else. I'm going to show my age here but I can still remember when JCpenney's was one story and they sold LP's, that's where I got my Grease Album , the one and only time my Mom gave in to my begging for something,(probably because she wanted it too) ha, ha good times! The store has evolved but even with the newer store the women's bathroom is hideous. The sad thing about most stores in Ventura County is the selection of product geared toward curvy women or girls stinks and JCP is no different, I'm not old enough to dress like a school marm, come on get with the program, Curvy women are sexy too! While we live in a time where many people are struggling with their weight the Ventura stores refuse to carry anything fashionable , leaving customers to order products online. I blame corporate, they obviously have no clue to the market they are selling too. Took my kids to get photos at the photo department. Awful pictures. The girl was rude and wouldn't help or direct me on how to pose my kids. I came for pictures of my 2 year old and this was the best photo she got of my 2 year old because she wouldn't help direct pose her so my daughter didn't know where to stand. You can clearly see the background clip in the back as well. Wish I got the girls name but yeah do not pay $200 for these portraits. I couldve done better with a iPhone camera and iPhone filters. The clerk was friendly but was busy with another customer so she called for another associate. It took a while for the transaction because she was the only one that could size it and for them to find the box. She was trying very hard so I guess she gets credit for effort. I have been a long time pennys shopper I also have the credit card with them as well, today I went to go browse a little bit due to they were open for only 45 more minutes on a Sunday, I decided to try on a whole bunch of clothes and I had a young lady associate help me to the dressing room and she allowed me to take six items at a time I had a total of 11 so of course I complied brought out six items when I was done with them took the rest of them to Tryon I took one thing which was a pink sweater and I found some slipper sandals and I tried them on while I was trying them on the speaker came on sanity were closing in five minutes so I still have them on to make sure that they fit well I wasn't even trying to leave the store nor was I walking towards the doors at all all of a sudden I had apparently they're horrible security come approach me make a very big scene told me that He's only showing things in my purse and that he wasn't stupid I said sir I'm not saying that you're stupid but nothing from JCPenney's is in my purse I proceeded to open up my purse and allow him to look in it clearly I had nothing I told him I was going to pay for the sandals that were on my feet I just wanted to see how they felt and he told me know that I was no longer allowed to be coming to this JC pennies he also had me sign a form and he told me he didn't care what name I put I am beyond shocked and embarrassed I didn't even leave the store this is ridiculous read more

Their online orders for store pick up are terrible. I ordered several items before xmas. None came in on time but some items arrived weeks late and I picked them up. The boots apparently came in weeks later but I was not notified. I got a letter on 2/15/20, dated 1/23 saying that the boots were at order pick up desk for 10 days and were returned. They can not be reached by phone, not even to leave a message. I'm livid. I will never shop at or order from JCPenny again read more

I purchased jeans on line JCPenney, got wrong size, found that I was able to return to the Store in Ventura, CA. Marisol at the return desk could not have been more rude to me. I wanted store credit, and she refused to help me. WHY? I had no tags on the Jeans. Not only was she rude, she yelled at me. Also asked for manager and was advised she was not available till 1 pm. Asked for a floor manager and He was not helpful at all either. He said that the Store manager would have to make decision. I bought a shirt and several pairs of socks here and while the sale prices and selections were good, the customer service was NOT. Half of the Men's Clothing checkout cover was absolutely covered in returns, go backs, and junk. When I paid, suddenly the "computer went down" and they were unable to give me a receipt. The young lady who rang me up said "He (who???) will bring it out right now" and then left. After 5 minutes two guys showed up, started clearing away the junk and clothes so they could open another register, but didn't say anything. Nothing. Squat. I told them I was waiting for a receipt and one of them said "Oh" and got on the phone. What did he tell me? "He (again, who??) will bring it out" then went back to trying to ring up the other people in line. Guess I was low priority since they already had my money. 3-4 minutes later (I'm not exaggerating on these times) "He" showed up and gave me my receipt. That's it. No "sorry for the wait" or anything else. If people want to know why brick & mortar stores are closing, go look at this JC Penney location and you'll see why. read more

I hate to do this to good old JCP - I've been a Hair Salon customer for years, and I'm finally fed up. Made an appt. with my usual stylist, and arrived 10 minutes early. The receptionist was busy, so I quickly told her my name and my stylist appt. She said okay, I'll let her know. I could see the stylist was working on another persons hair. So I sat and waited. No one spoke, no one offered any coffee (maybe because the pot was empty?), not one acknowledgement. Sitting next to the bathroom (hey, that's pleasant), no hair mags - can't even look at pretty hairstyles. Twenty minutes after my appt should have been, I looked in to see the stylist still working on the same woman. I told the receptionist I was leaving, and she asked if I wanted to make another appointment! Yeah, right. I had one - they just failed to keep their side of the bargain. And to those stylists who say it's the customers who are always late? I have been late once - by 5 minutes, and I apologized profusely. And it was at Christmastime - there was little parking. It's not like this is the first time I've been left waiting. It's just the last in years worth of unresponsive salon employees, always chattering away with each other. In the past, my stylist has been out shopping (and they had to page her), eating lunch (you don't mind do you?), and just generally not interested in my time. I'm expected to wait and smile. And yes, they are expensive. A partial hair dye and cut cost me $150. My usual haircut takes 15 minutes, and I'm charged $35, plus they are always insisting I get my hair blown dry. My hair is already dry by the time the haircut is over! Just say no to bad Customer Service! There are many more stylists out there, and salons that truly care. No wonder my former stylist said she was having a hard time keeping customers. Duh. read more

I have been debating writing this review for sometime for the simple fact that the few women I have met here seem very pleasant (which is why there are 2 stars) but that's where the satisfaction of this particular part of the JCPenney brand ends. This review is based off the JCPenney Salon. I've visited the salon about 4-6 times each with a different stylist. One visit I was asked if I wanted to flat iron the front of my own hair because the stylist was uncomfortable and scared that she would burn me. Which didn't surprise me because I got the impression from the stylist, and the stares, that not many African American woman visited the salon which made me assume that they lacked experience with my hair texture. The next couple visits were fairly decent which gave me a little more hope with the salon but it was still pretty obvious no one had any real experience with African American hair or any coarse textured hair in general. Until recently, or so I thought, with a new to the salon stylist that I decided to try. Yes, she is African American and no she wasn't any better than the other stylist. I had two visit with her one for a wash and press (flat iron) and another for a roller set. Both appointments took about 3 hours with the end result being a huge disappointment. My biggest suggestion to JCPenney salon is to better train your stylist for ALL hair textures / customers. Matter of fact just ensure that they are better trained in general. No one should have to spend 3 hours in a hair salon and leave dissatisfied! read more

My new favorite store for clothing! I am not going to mention all of the stores that I have been to, just trying to find the right fit for me, or the right style. I have searched high and low for many years, and for some reason, I have never checked out JC Penny. That is until today. I am absolutely never going to buy my clothing from any other store. The service was amazing, but the best part is the selection of styles and fashions. I think they have the best for all age groups, and I am a very picky person, since I am always hard to buy for. I mean that my body shape is hard for me to find clothing that fits it well. I have beautiful legs, but I have a much rounder waistline than most women. My legs could easily fit into the tight sexy skinny jeans, but my butt couldn't. (haha) I have a Marilyn Monroe shape. The pants that fit my waist are usually balloons on my legs, I hate that so much. I really want to wear sexy fitting pants but because my tummy is rounder and not flat, I can't seem to be able to button the jeans or pants that fit my legs and length of my legs. The pants that do make me look like I'm swimming in the pants. Not fun.... JC Penny has pants that work for me, and a really awesome selection of styles, that are amazing. Today I went into JC Penny and got a pair of Liz Clayborne off white Corduroy pants for $10 on the sale rack, in size 16 Women's. I was so happy! The pants are a little loose on me, but I like that. I would rather feel comfortable than feel squeezed. I also got a pair of Liz Clayborne shoes on sale for $14 in gold. I really love the style of Liz Clayborne, and this is the first time I've tried any of it. I love the shirt I got today too. Beautiful! I always shop in the plus size shirts and clothes because I wear a size 16 pants and a 1x in shirts (because of my large breasts)..... and they have the prettiest plus size clothing that I have seen. Even at my skinniest, I usually wear sizes that are bigger (12 pants and XL tops). That section had amazing clothing too! Check this store out if you are like me and hate shopping for clothing, because either it's too expensive or doesn't fit right. This place is amazing! Penneyss has been struggling for years, but I still loke it. They mainly seem to be concentrating on clothing and housewares now. Not the highest quality, but avery good price range if you take advantage of the sales and coupons. Just a couple of days, I bought 2 of their St. John's Bay brand flannel shirts. They were on sale ( $12.99 instead of $34.99), and using a $10 off coupon, I paid $7.99/shirt. The only place to get a better deal is the thrift store! read more
