Our go to little beachy clothing store at the harbor. We always stumble in here and can find cute clothing and accessories every time we come. The clothing and style is very appropriate for the harbor type atmosphere. For the most part, the clothes are breathable, soft and nice fabrics/materials. I love the layout of the store. It's spacious here so it's easy to shop without bumping into people and plenty of room to look around. I also appreciate that they have nice fitting rooms here and they are comfortably sized so you can really try on the clothes and see it from every angle. I've bought a few tops here over the years. Today I got a cute long sleeve piece for under $70. The owner Elizabeth is very nice and helpful. I also appreciate that we could look around at our leisure. She told us about her second store on state st in SB so we'll definitely be checking them out. Prices are average but you get what you pay for and I've always felt that the materials are soft and nice quality. BUYER BEWARE!! So disappointing. Fabulous clothing but awful customer service and return policy. If you are looking for something for yourself - I'd recommend it... but if you want a gift - keep walking. I bought a beautiful coat for my MIL, who lives out of town, for Christmas. The coat didn't fit so we tried to return it for an even exchange. The item still has the tags, had no damage and they acknowledged it was purchased there. But it was past the 10 day return policy - which I wasn't told at the time of purchase. I was told today that "if I read my receipt I would have seen it." Talk about reading the fine print! There was no one authorized to make an exception so I need to buy a replacement gift. And told them I'll be donating the gift to a homeless person in the area so they can be embarrassed about this ridiculous customer service every time they are outside their store. A seemingly simple "even exchange" became an aggravating experience. I believe on - and work hard to - support small businesses, but I will not be a patron at this store again. Such a shame, but not worth the hassle with a staff that lacks authority, inflexible policies for something so simple and no one available by phone to make an exception. I went into the shop and immediately started to get stared at. I went to one of the tables and the second I picked up a tank top, the owner came and kept staring me down and dusting everything I touched. I was also accused of dirtying a tank top, that was like that when I walked in. I didn't get a chance to move past the front of the store. I was going to buy a $38 tank top but got turned off by how rude the owner was being to me and my family. She was calling me rude and wasn't treating us with respect. I stumbled inside the Barefoot Boutique trying to kill some time before the boat parade started at the Ventura Village Harbor. The stores sells mostly ladies clothes, nice, casual style, accessories, jewelry, hip, elegant, simple, decent prices. The customer service here is great, the ladies working here had a nice set up for customers with snacks, brownies, cupcakes, sparkling water for everyone to get a treat while shopping. Nice and welcoming! I browsed the boutique which is very nicely decorated, simple, airy with comfortable fitting rooms. The merchandise is nice, simple, good quality, some made local (which I appreciate) and perfect for California - nice, simple, bohemian. I ended up trying a nice blouse and my husband wasn't bored, he kept being invited to the table full of goodies. I'm glad he was being entertained while I was changing (took me a while with all the layers I had on for the parade). I liked the blouse, so Santa got it for me (shhh..., please!). It's nice, cool, my style. I was surprised by the great customer service at the Barefoot Boutique, the nice merchandise, the classy style of the decoration. I love this store and the buyer/owner has a good eye. It's a little pricey but I wear the tops, pants and shifts all the time. I'm glad I had a good return experience because that would have soured my al future shopping but they did the right thing. As Barefoot Boutique's Facebook page says they cater to the California Beach lifestyle , from Sweatshirts and graphic tees, to yoga pants, kimono tops and fringed cardigans, this is perfect for the tourist or for the average beach-goer. The prices are higher than your average department store, but you are dealing with a locally owned store so that needs to be taken into account, and I'm always willing to pay extra to help a local shop. So why three stars? Because while the clothes are fashionable, I felt a definite sense of bias because I did not fit into the cookie cutter sizes they were offering, I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, at the disdain the clerk appeared to have over anything above a size Large... where's Richard Gere when you need him? So while I do like the merchandise sold at Barefoot, I think they need to expand their size field, and maybe work on the customer service... I had money to spend that day, and I chose to walk away and give it to someone who actually appreciated it. read more

I was so disappointed at the Ventura Harbor boutique today because I could get no help at all. The customer service was terrible. The young girl sat behind the desk on her phone the whole time, and couldn't even answer the simplest questions about merchandise. Then when I did pick something out and asked her to put it in a box, she didn't even know how to tie a bow. Very disappointed in owner/manager who can't train a young woman to service people. In the past, I bought items at the store in the Collections and was very happy, but today I went out of my way to go to Ventura Village just to shop there, and was treated horribly. I like going in here because they usually have something cute that is t too pricey. Overall I love this store. I do think prices have gone up - but prices have gone up on everything so I wasn't surprised. Today I was very disappointed because I walked in and the girl working there didn't even look up from her phone once. She didn't say hi or anything. There was no one else in the store, a woman did walk in shortly after I did and she was not acknowledged either. I walked past her at the cash register twice and still she did not look up from her phone. I walked past her a third time and looked at her to see if she'd say hi and still just just looked at her phone. Maybe but it was dark out, then I couldn't get back to the store until after Thanksgiving so over the time limit of 10 days. You can say I should know better, and now I do. Won't shop there ever. Stay away from this place. I have only written 2 negative reviews over the years. Both have been due to such outrageous experiences, I felt the need to help others. As a small business owner myself, I have my clients as my priority. They are, after all the lifeblood of my business. Customer Care at Barefoot Boutique, Ventura Harbor is not a priority, in fact, it feels like they wish their shop could get out of its lease. I'm new to the community and was excited to see the store's inventory. I purchased some clothes but noticed, when I was home, the $69.00 skirt I purchased, didn't have the elastic at the waist sewed to the fabric. Knowing this would be a issue for me, as it would turn and bunch up. I went back less than 24 hours later, to return just the skirt. With in seconds of saying "Hi, I have a return." The owners daughter fired out, "all sales are final." (Before I go on, I need to say, the really nice sales associate who helped me shop is not to be included. ) My response was surprise at this abrupt retort. The receipt does not say final sale, the owners daughter, who had checked me out, said nothing about a final sale. She said a sign was at the cash register (there was no sign.). They pointed me to a sign (which was a ripped page of note paper they had taped to the counter at least 4 feet away from the register that same day. It was written in scrawling thin blue ink, "sales final." I was told that it was due to a government rule during the pandemic??? Yeah.... I guess the government let Target off the hook. Such BS. No conversation, just rude shaking of head. Im not an idiot and know a ruse when I see one. They are there for tourist trade where they don't have to worry about a customer base. I see some good reviews. Must have been on a random good day. I've got a few more contacts to make with this because, I know I experienced a gross ripoff as I said I'd be happy just to take a store credit. I needed a dress for an event and decided to come in here and after visiting the chain stores in the collection and just not seeing anything great. I was greeted by a young blonde girl, she offered to help me which was so refreshing because these days store associates just don't come up to you or offer suggestions. They had a cute selection of beachy style clothes and I ended up getting a dress. I would definitely come back here to shop. The prices were reasonable and it's not cheap fast fashion. read more

I enjoy the collection of very reasonably priced items. Most items I have purchased have fit well and have lasted more than a few washes. I sometimes find that the deeper the discount, the less likely the quality. However not the case with the great finds I have purchased so far. The reason for the 3 stars is the complete lack of customer service. While I will say that the Collection location is somewhat better with service, however not A1 service for a boutique setting. I really wish that small business owners would stress the important of genuine customer service, I believe that more retailers would survive the Amazon takeover. read more

BEWARE. This shop has a very unforgiving return or exchange policy. I was taking care of my beloved dog who's dying of cancer so I didn't have the chance to return the item within their short 7 day policy. The item was wrong size and brand new, with tags, perfect condition and they wouldn't even except for an exchange. Love the clothes in here. Been here many times. Being a beach city and especially in a dog-friendly harbor such as Ventura Harbor Village, this place is NOT dog friendly. Sooo behind the times! Everyone let's dogs in nowadays. People don't bring dogs shopping if they are not well-behaved. I was asked to leave, unless it's a therapy dog. I was ready to thrown down some serious cash on 3 dresses a purse and some cute jeans. UGH... The lady said she loves dogs but the owner does not. Really too bad. I spend a lot of money on clothes. Dog owners that take their dogs everywhere are big spenders. We treat our dogs like family. If we spend and treat our dogs this way, imagine how we spend on ourselves. Have lived in Ventura for 3 years and so love the Ventura Harbor. My husband and I go weekly to eat and shop. We love supporting the shops and local owners. This weekend we had friends visiting from Minnesota and took them to the Harbor to enjoy food and share the opportunity to shop "locally." My friend and I both bought some earrings from Barefoot Boutique. When we got back home we put them on and within 5 minutes our ears were burning and itching. Understanding that we would get store credit for a return, we went back today to return to find out that in small print on the receipt (which is printed after purchase) that jewelry is not "Returnable". To be fully upfront, I was showed today when I tried to get store credit for my return on the bottom of the IPad they use to sale items has a small piece of paper sharing that jewelry is not returnable. As a local resident who takes all my friends and family to the Harbor, I would just say "BUYER BEWARE". I would have tried them on before purchase if I knew I could not return. Let me say I would be happy with store credit... but after being told To read the small print on my receipt. So as you bring friends and family to support our lovely Harbor and the shops, just read the small print. This is my favorite store, EVER! The clothing, the atmosphere and the location! Whats not to like? I always find clothing I like, that fits, and I'm not a "mini" either! I get a lot of compliments when I go out in the clothes I have bought from here.They have a great selection of really cute, stylish clothes and they always seem to be getting new things. As said in another review, the buyer knows her stuff! I find the prices to be extremely reasonable.
