Very nice Navy Exchange. You need a military ID to shop here. The layout and wide and spacious. I'd consider this a medium to large exchange. They carry clothing, bedding, household goods, toiletries, vitamins, electronics, sporting goods, hardware, alcohols/spirits, candies/snacks and small food items, appliances, gardening, jewelry, and more. It's a tax-free department store. You have to be a savory shopper and check prices. There are a lot of items that are less expensive here but others you either want to wait for a good sale or see if you can price challenge. Yes, they do accept price challenges from the major competition. Find it cheaper somewhere else, just show proof and they will match. Again, no sales tax. There's a small food court in the lobby as well as vendors selling other stuff that varies from time to time.

Military/ Base Access only!! It's not the biggest nex but has a wide variety of items if you need things in the area. From electronics, tools, outdoor items, to clothes, uniform and alcohol. There's no tax when you buy things here so if your planning a larger purchase like TV, Xbox, Switch, PlayStation it might be worth it to buy it here or order through the online nex to this store. Last tip is if you get a haircut through the barber ask for your receipt. On the back of it is a $5 coupon if you spend over $50 at the nex.

Great stop for us along our coastal road trip. It's always nice to stop at the local bases to fill up on gas and do some shopping in a safe environment. We came in on Memorial Day and there were no crowds, no long lines and we had the store to ourselves. They have everything you need if you're planning any water sports or beach time. A great selection of local wines to choose from too. All the usual wares you would find in a NEX shoes, clothing, bikes, outdoor grills, housewares, etc. It's not a big store but you'll get what you need. Kids were happy to find some Skylanders-(which by the way suddenly stop working but to fix them just: leave the Skylander on the Portal of Power, then hit the Alt-Tab button, disconnect the portal of power, then reconnect it again, then un-minimize game, hit Alt-Tab again and it should reload the character! It worked for me!) hubby got some neon running shoes and I bought a nice blouse, everyone was happy. Plus no taxes! There was some construction in the food court area so nothing was open. Friendly service. I look forward to coming back the next time we are in the hood.

A nice selection of electronics and liquor. Prices for food are not as good as at the commissary next door.

To get started we didnt know what time the store closed and we didn't rememebr the name of the business, or else we would've googled it, the only one that knew about this store is my bf. Anyway, we get there, my bf and I get in the store, he sees right away what he wants and grabs it, I see that they have this pants that my son wanted and didn't find in another store. So I decide to call him to come quick and get them to buy them. My other son also wanted a sweater so he decided to also come in the store. At the end all three of my teens decide to come in the store, as they were walking in, one of the owners was at the door, and no joke, I saw and heard how he was telling my kids "shop, rapido!!" With a tone in the rapido word. He literally told my kids shop fast tapping on his watch. As soon as I saw that, I told him I didn't appreciate his attitude and asked if he didn't want us to shop there? The cashier who is latina looked and told told me "es que cerramos a las 7:30 y ya son las 7:31!! (We close at 7:30 and its already 7:31) I couldn't believe what she was telling me and after a few words I told her we didn't deserve to be treated that way and other things and told her if you don't want my money if fine, left all the items in our hands, pants $41 two vests, each were about $30x2=60, a zipper Hoodie i believe $45 and my daughter also was getting something 41+60+35+40= about $176 worth of clothes, we were Christmas shopping and all of that over a minute. Only Bc we were there at 7:31. I was mad and I will never go there again bc that was no way to treat any customer specifically during this season. I will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!! They don't treat customers right and also prices were high, we really wanted the items so we were willing to buy them regardless but now, no more. Don't shop here. They don't appreciate you, at all. Customer service is non-existent.

I'm an early bird so ... it's not a huge deal but the times I've gone later in the day there has been a parking issue. Pro-tip park at the other center across the street if necessary. Only a short walk and it's a bigger parking lot.

There is a nice private parking lot, so usually its possible to find parking, and the parking is free. The main reason I visit the Hueneme Center is to enjoy the wonderful food at LA Playa Soul Kitchen. I'm telling you, that place has got it going on! If you haven't tried LA Playa, I recommend you get over there and get some of their great food. They have absolutely wonderful espresso drinks too! I also like the vape shop here, Vapor Forrest. And, clearly, everyone else loves Vapor Forrest too. That shop is always hella busy. Really nice selection of all sorts of vaping/smoking/playing-with-fire tools and accessories. Surf Side Liquor is another one of my favorite shops in this Center. Hueneme Beach Park is just a couple blocks away. That makes this the closest liquor store to the beach. The beer here is colder than an IRS agent's heart. All of the above is well and good, but the reason I created this page and wrote this review is to highlight the very cool mural that adorns the building. The mural was painted above the front windows and doors of the tenant businesses. It is broken up into individual scenes that reflect key moments in the history of our continent. It begins with scenes of indigenous people living in peace, pre-European contact. You see images of a shaman and what to my eyes look like an Olmec totem and a Mayan pyramid. Next come scenes of The Conquest, with ugly sword-wielding Conquistadors, and natives in chains. These scenes are followed by depictions of the arrival of the Franciscan missionaries and Mission life. Next, there are scenes from the early days of California statehood, with wagon trains and vaqueros/cowboys on horseback. These are followed by scenes of the building of the railroads, featuring the courageous Chinese immigrant laborers with picks and shovels. The series of vignettes ends with an outline of our state with a State Flag and three strong images of Mexican American men. The artwork is signed, Xowiie Menddez, 1971. Wow! 1971! That means this amazing art has been here for over 50 years. I asked a few people working in the Center if they knew anything about the artist and no one had any information to share. I went home and searched the internet. I came up empty. I can find nothing online for any artist names Xowiie Menddez. The few years before and after1971 were a heady time for Latinos in Southern California. It was when Mexican American students in the LA Unified School District staged the largest walkouts in the history of American education. Called Blowouts, these walkouts were in protest of the second rate education that was foisted on Mexican American students. LAUSD teacher Sal Castro helped guide and protect the student protesters. At this same time the Brown Berets, a pro-Chicano paramilitary organization was organizing protests against the war in Vietnam. Sal Castro and many student leaders and Brown Berets were rounded up and put on trial for conspiracy. All or nearly all were acquitted. I highly recommend you check out these amazing murals when you visit the Hueneme center. Although the are in plain sight, I'm sure most people barely notice them. That's a shame. They should be appreciated and celebrated! Mikey C says: please message me if you have any information on Xowiie Menddez!
