I've been shopping at JC Penny, specifically for pants, for about 25 years. I really do appreciate their quality and quantity of selection. This trip there was a buy one get one offer but could only find one pair of pants in my size (36x38). Upon going to check out, Will offered to help me look one more time and we did find a close second (36x36) which fit well enough. I would rate the experience lower based on the complete lack of options - you must have hundreds of pairs of jeans in-store, but only 1-2 pairs that fit?! But Will went above and beyond, and I even got that sale discount. Made the experience so much better. Next time shop online I guess (shrugs). Oh, and the fitting rooms were nasty. read more

I have not shopped at Penney's since the 90's. I don't remember why I stopped shopping here. But I'm glad I came back. I needed window treatments. Terri was so helpful. I have never hung window treatments before. She guided me on what size. Color choices. I hung up curtains on 8 large windows all by myself. After my great experience I decided to try the salon my hairstylist raised her prices to $100 for a cut. I used to always go to Penney's salon. Kevin is fabulous he is experienced, listens to what I want provides a great cut. Penney's has great prices, exceptional customer service. I had a terrible experience with JCPenney hair salon at the location on 7750 W Arrowhead Town Center located in Glendale, AZ phone number (623) 412-1121. My appointment was for 12 noon with hairstylist Stacia. I arrived ontime but I was not seen until 51 minutes later. I wanted a curly perm, more specifically a Jheri curl. This is a perm for black people, for those not familiar with this style. I have used Stacia in the past with no problems but today when I asked her to use smaller rollers because my hair is very fine, she wanted to upcharge me by $75.00. The normal charge would have been $100.00. When I tried to explain it to her manager, a white woman, she had no idea what I was talking about. I left the location very frustrated because I feel my concerns were not heard. This is another reason to have diversity training! It is impossible to explain black people's hair to a white person who have no idea what the difference is between 4c hair and the word foresee. I would not recommend this location. read more

This review is for the Portrait Studio. My first visit here was 6 years ago and it was a sour experience. The photographer at that time made a remark about "another bad baby" when my then 1 year old son was crying. I haven't been back until now. This visit definitely made up for 6 years ago. I needed birthday pictures for my youngest and family holiday pictures in a jiffy and this studio met my needs. My previous longtime studio finally closed for good and their other 2 locations were in the East valley. No, thank you - not going to go 30+ miles out of my way for pictures. Our photographer was *fantastic* with our 2 kids. She was energetic, fun, and very patient in getting the kids into position. I hope to get her on my future visits! While my kids pictures came out beautifully, I felt like the ones of hubby and I were meh. I know I'm not photogenic and some of the poses we did were drifting into the cheesy territory, making me look more unflattering. But nonetheless, hubby and I's primary goal was to get beautiful pictures of our kids and we got them. read more

Return counter is way at the back as you enter from inside the mall. So many counters but associates not prepared for long lines and efficient returns. Store is so over crowded with merchandise everywhere, one literally has to cross over hoops to get to where u want to go. First I was an olan mills person loved them. Then a picture people person they were ok. Then back to olan mills but they closed on this side of town. So we tried Jcpenny Portriat studio! I loved every bit of it. Was a great experience for my family this year for my daughter's 3rd birthday pictures. I'd like to highlight that April took our pictures. We had a group of 5 adults, 1 teen, and my 3 year old daughter. I scheduled a 5pm time on a Saturday that they had extended hours. Our shoot went over time with good reason. My daughter had 3 outfit changes, and we had 4 backgrounds. I went in very organized and family helped change my daughter. Pretty much by the time April changed the background my daughter was dressed and ready. Keep in mind not all kids can handle changing. April also said we will only do outfit changes as long as my 3 year old was good with it. I have done many shoots even at home with my child. So she is super use to it and that made April's job easier. We did Easter pictures of my daughter by herself. Super cute! And their props were perfect. Then family pictures D+ me plus breastfeeding pictures D+ grandparents D + great grandma, uncle and myself All of us D+uncle D+ grandpa D+grandma D+great grandma My family was super ready and on point. We were highly organized and April made sure everyone's hair was good and bra straps weren't showing. Then my daughter's birthday pictures. Great variety, showed growth, things she was into, and number 3 balloon. It took about 30 minutes which is impressive with that many people, outfit changes, and background changes. Photographers are willing to work with you if you can show professionalism too! My family is trained and use to this, you'll get better pictures and a better experience if you are well trained too. We will continue to go to them annually from now on. And we will stick to a later time so photographers can take their time. read more

Called today and a representative Shanacia was beyond rude and unprofessional and disconnected my call. Called back only to be lied to by Denise who said she would call back. Never heard from her. Called this afternoon and a representative who clearly hated her job transferred me to the Spanish line after asking for a manager. Was finally transferred to a representative who couldn't help but did transfer me to the Corporate escalation department who offered my a $50 gift card but I will never shop there again so what's the point. When I asked for a waiving of the installation fee she wouldn't do it. I told her I would leave a negative review on every social media application I was told not to threaten her.y response was this was not a threat but a promise. PORTRAIT STUDIO Received a gift certificate for Christmas. I was looking forward to a family portrait. When confirming the appointment, we were informed that if we were late, we were the last appointment of the day and they would leave. Healthy boundaries are good but lacking customer care. Arrived early for appointment and was greeted by a friendly gal who would be our photographer. She did the usual poses and we finished in less than 20 minutes. Upon review of the proofs, many poses showed my top was bunched or the pose looked awkward. The finished product looked like the old Kmart photo style...only much more expensive. read more

We went to their furnishings store to order some drapes for our sliding glass door. To cover the door, we needed four panels and so we ordered four. All were supposedly in stock. A few days later, on Sept. 1, before our order was delivered we received an email saying that one panel would be back ordered for two and one half months. It would ship on Nov. 12. We weren't happy since we ordered 4 panels. Had we known at the time we ordered that they would not be able to ship us all 4 panels we would have ordered something else. Nov. 12 came and went and we wondered where our order was. I called today, Nov. 27, and after navigating the menu system for 2.5 minutes and then being placed on hold for another 5 I finally spoke with someone. It seems that JC Penney decided to cancel the order for the other panel without telling us. We received no email and no notification that they would not fulfill the order. Amazing! They did allow me to order the fourth panel at a discount off our original price. That was good. The customer service rep told me I would receive 400 points, worth $40, for the inconvenience. Ok. So, they're trying to make it up to me. I did not receive the $40 credit as promised. I received $10. So, even in trying to make it up to me they could not keep their word. I will NEVER order anything which requires JC Penney to ship multiple items again. I very much doubt I'll order anything which requires them to ship me something. read more

I like the re-branding that JCPenneys has done recenlty, like doing away with the weekly coupons, door busters, and offering merchandise at lower everyday prices (basically what it would had been with a coupon). $5 for a good quality plain t-shirt! I like that! (not like the crappy see-through ones at Old Navy for $9!) Another good thing that I like at this store is that it wasn't crazy busy like it used to be during the sales! I was actually able to shop in a quiet environment and check out quickly without a long ass line. No wait for a fitting room either! The cashiers were friendly at the two kiosks that I went to. Employees even greeted me as I walked around the store, they never did this before...unless they were talking to the person behind me? This location seems to have a much bigger selection than the JCPenneys in Goodyear (plus, the Goodyear location looks like a Kohl's inside). The JCPennys home store is located across the street, next to JoAnn's. They have a clean restroom too - thank goodness they remodeled it a few years ago (or it would had ended up being like the disgusting one at the former Mervyn's, now Forever21 store)... read more

This review is for the JCPenny portrait studio responsible for the "Christmas Blessings" Christmas card that graced my family's and co-worker's mailboxes this past holiday season. My girlfriend and I were going for a "Step Brothers" pose so we had to look the part. I guess the look won't be in any Vogue or GQ magazine this year. No, you'll have to go back to the time when Circus Magazine was popular and when mom and dad went to key parties. Our photographer was wonderful. She seemed to enjoy her job and have fun with client's ideas. However the person who helped us pick out which cards to choose was not having any of it. If you looked up awkward in the dictionary and smacked them upside the head that's what it felt like. Her sheer agony of working there oozed out from her forced smile. Anyways, I'll just say that I am damn happy I had a coupon for a $30 package which included two 8x10s of different poses and a whompin' helping of greeting cards. A package that retails at about $170. And no, even if you pay that price, a happy ending is not included. read more

I don't know what's happened to this particular store over the last couple months, but I can tell you this place is a mixed bag. Some shopping experiences leave you with a positive impression, and some leave you wanting to run for the exit. This store isn't awful, but recently, it's been a challenge shopping here. It seems like there's a malaise hovering over the store. Some employees are helpful, some ignore us, but we rarely get much in the way of genuine friendliness. It used to be better, but since summer started, each time we go it seems to be a hassle. Our last trip was to return a broken watch from a recent purchase at another Penney's, and that would have been more pleasant if we were waited on promptly in the jewelry department. When we finally did get helped by Yon (Yoh?), she made it a point to tell us she was with other people and that's why she didn't acknowledge us earlier. The jewelry counter wasn't busy, so we were confused by the lack of service, and thought it was tacky she pointed out to us how we interrupted her other customers. We had our receipt with us, which made the return easier, but we got grilled about how the watch broke (the casing wasn't properly drilled for the strap pin, which caused the watch to pop off when stressed). She seemed to get surlier during the transaction, so I left to go wander the Sephora department. While the girls visited "their" section downstairs, and I went upstairs to shop in Men's. I got sidetracked and went over to the catalog order desk area, which is now luggage. I wonder how people get their orders now, since there's no place to pick up stuff you order on-line. On a side note, their luggage selection is almost as good as the selection across the street at the Penney's Home store. In my entire tie roaming around upstairs, I wasn't approached by a single employee. Another side note: We love the addition of the Sephora - it's a nice way to bring back cosmetics into Penney's. The people there are super-nice, and they genuinely believe in the products. Sure, it's a premium brand offering, but with the sales they run, we spend carefully to get better products. Bottom line: Can't wait for school to start again so the real employees get more hours, and we get the attention we deserve. Oh, and it would be nice to see some changes to the friendliness level of this store. read more

I just bought a home in the Phoenix area. Naturally, some new home items are needed. We visited the JC Penny Home store at Bell and 83 Ave.three times in the last few weeks. Each time we were helped by a very friendly staff person. They steered us in the right way. We even purchased a wrong item and had a very easy return process. Our only complaint is that they did not have enough stock in the sheets that we were interested in. They were not on sale or close out, so we were surprised there were no queen sized bed sheets available. This happened with a few different styles we were looking at. they even checked online and still could not accomodate us. We will return in the future for other needs. read more

I've never been a JCPenney fan, and maybe this is why. We always seem to find our way into that store during holiday shopping when we are looking for stuff through the entire mall. Every time the store has a holiday sale, it is DESTROYED by the time we get there. It's like a war zone. I'm sure half the problem is the clientele, but still. Knowing what kind of people you draw, staff accordingly to follow up on the fallout. I went in recently because I found a pair of Nike sneakers online and it said there were two of my size in stock. I tried them on, but noticed the bottoms were filthy. I asked the sales associate to check for another pair because they looked worn, and she replied, "Oh, that's just from our floors. Shopped here for years both online and in store. I've always had great customer service. My online orders went smoothly, including returns which were credited back perfectly. I'm tall so ordering pants and most shirts from the website is necessary, they carry very few tall items in the store. No problem, I just order them to go to my home or I pick up at the store. Both types of transactions have gone without a hitch. I do most of my clothes shopping at JCP because of this. read more

My wife needed a nice dress for a dinner party we are battening after the New Year so we browsed through Jc Penny at Arrow Head mall. They had fair sale prices and a great inventory. My wife wanted to think about it so we put the dress on hold (24hrs). Life got busy so I returned two days later and went to purchase the dress. To my surprise the sale price increased by $13 not a huge deal but I didn't want to spend anymore as the dress was at the edge of our budget. So I left and drove off to and immediately returned to take info off the dress to see if I can buy it online for less. After wasting 45 min I decided this was really silly to waste anymore time. So I called and asked for the store manager. Mike the store manger understood my concern and offered to take $10 off which I thought was more than fair. I went back inside and explained the situation to the cashier and she called and verified my story with Mike. The cashier was also nice enough to take another 15% off of the now discounted 40% price. So the moral of the story? So often we all just leave upset over this type of thing and write a nasty review before giving the store a chance to make good on a bad situation. This review is strictly for the portrait studio. One word..CHAOS. I received a gift session and I was more than happy to get my daughter's first Christmas cards done. It was a mad house from the second we stepped into the studio. I understand it's the holiday season; I get it..really I do. But booking a session at a certain time, should fall within that time-give or take 10-15 minutes. NOT 90 minutes after that time. I had a 5 month old infant with me..and lets say she wasn't happy sitting around, waiting for 90 minutes, to get a very sour, overworked, and probably really tired photographer. No guidance, no instruction or attempts by this person to work with my kid. Plop child on this dot, snap picture. Yes my daughter was fussy..but YOU guys were late..what happens? I ask if I can feed her, only to learn, that our slot has been taken and we have to wait again. WHAT?! Now, our second photographer was a thousand times better which is why I added another star. He really did all he could to get our daughter to smile without seeming angry or bored, or upset. But like I said, 90 minutes with a child waiting, and your not going to get a happy baby in pictures. The person who then tries to pick poses and templates with you was just not...professional. She was suggesting the most horrid pictures possible. Nightmare! I stuck around because it was a gift, and I was not going to be ungrateful, but I will not be using this studio ever again. read more

Well, to my surprise, I started loving this store. I love it enough to use their credit card. This location is hit it miss for me. Often the store is disorganized and a mess. Broken fixtures in dressing rooms. Racks of clothing in aisles. Clothes that slip off hangers on the floor. Sometimes is perfectly clean, organized and the dressing rooms are clean. I no longer shop in the jeweler department due to the put out behavior I seemed to get from 2 longer term employees. Other cashiers are hit or miss. I got scolded last week for trying to redeem a coupon too soon. I got it in the mail, I obviously didn't check it out first but it was no big deal because as a card holder, I had the same discount in a saved email. I was scolded again for not being ready with the right coupons. I literally took less than 30 seconds to pull it up on my phone and the cashier wasn't even finished ringing my transaction up. Anyway, cashier dramatically rolls her eyes and looks around me to see if there is anyone waiting in line behind me. There wasn't. She said she guessed she could take care of SCANNING the right coupon. Jeez. Do like the Sephora. Very easy to get in and out. read more
