Over the years, I've become much more understanding of how fast-paced retail has become and how costs have increased. I also understand that not every item I bring in will be accepted. However, I value my clothes, even when I'm ready to part with them. What was frustrating about my visit today wasn't just the offer of $3 for three items--it was that I brought my clothes in neatly folded in a bag, and they were returned to me in a wrinkled pile. We came in tonight looking for a few dresses and maybe some other items. While the store was pretty clean service was totally non existent. There were at least four girl employees that were not only just standing around talking to each other they were completely ignoring EVERY single customer in the store. There was no greeting from any of them when we arrived inside, no offer to help and the same thing continued for a few other people that came in after us. We left right after. Stopped in to get a quote on a box full of my hubby's Columbia shirts and a pair of Brooks running shoes. They usually take teens to late 20s clothing but we're mid 40s and the items were universal in age. All were purchased in the last 1-2 years and in really great condition. They were a STEAL for Plato's, considering the exact items can be bought online today and each shirt were all in the $25-$50 range brand new. There was 30 minutes wait so we ran errands. They texted when it was ready for pickup, and we made $45 cash. Since these items had been sitting on Marketplace and Poshmark for a while, I just wanted to be done with it all. One of my favorite places to shop for cute current used clothes with inclusive sizes and reasonable prices! It's reliable in that I will usually find something I have to have! If you are hoping to sell your clothing here.. don't get your hopes up. You will be lucky if they will want to buy anything at all and it won't be for much cash back. I took two boxes in today just to see what they give for good quality clothes. I took tags off of clothes just to see. Took about 40 pairs of Levi jeans and shorts along with gap, old navy, apt. 9, and Vera wang all weren't new but all were hardly worn. They kept 7 pairs of shorts and I got $10.78 cents. In the store it smelt like feet and so many dirty shoes I would never put on my feet. Hair ties filthy. Couldn't look any more. You had to ask for help, as they didn't greet you! Busy talking with other workers. What else I didn't like is, they didn't wipe or clean the insides of the women's wallets or purses. They were dirty with crumbs, smudges, and or drips. It is just like they put them up for sale, the way they received the item. I did ask them why they were not cleaned. I'm not one to leave bad reviews but here we are. Great selection however, I would not recommend selling your clothes here. As expected at any store like this you don't get much $ in return. My issue is that I came in with two big duffel bags, everything pretty neatly folded just to get my items back semi folded and shoved in the bag. I will never sell or buy here again. read more

I've been a loyal customer for years now and yet somehow they've started giving even less money back for when you sell clothes? They took a pair of Nike Air Forces, almost brand new, and I didn't even realize until I had left the store. They were not in the bin when they showed me what they took and they're not in the bag of things they gave back to me?? They gave me $12 when they took Free People, Garage, etc brands from me and I asked for a price break down and they wanted to buy a new pair of Converse from me for $4 and sell them for $14? Yeah... I think they had pretty good pricing but low inventory ,and I'm not sure what the problem was with my clothing I brought to resale because I took 5 big bags of almost new clothing and exact same items they had on sale floor, yet didn't even look at each item and the 3 associates were just giggling and having a very inappropriate conversation , I will not recommend the surprise location to anyone for resale read more

I must say the staff was nice & quick to help get my clothes checked in, I did bring in 3 tote bags of clothes to sell, unfortunately, they were not able to purchase any of my clothes, I was very disappointed because I had well branded items & all in great condition. I did feel like it was a waste of my time since they only took like 30 mins or so to check through the bags & some of the clothes were placed back in the tote bags all messy. I got to see some of the clothes they had in the store and some looked all raggedy & used so I don't get how my clothes weren't taken up for especially since they were brands like their website had said and clothes within the season so I'm just a little confused by that. It always cracks me up when i read Plato's closet reviews. The people reviewing the store angry tend to be first timers and not fully understand the way the store functions. No, you are not going to get a big chunk of cash back for your designer items. Doesn't matter how nice and new it is. Plato's closet is NOT "the real-real" nor is it any other resale shop that are known for buying and selling designer/luxury items for a high price. If you want big bucks for your higher priced items then Plato's closet is not the store for you and that is not their fault but yours for not properly researching stores around the area that gladly will buy your item for a higher price. I've been selling at Plato's closet for years now at multiple locations across the US as i travel long term for work. This is a place for you to sell your items when you want to upgrade your closet and be understanding in the fact that you are not going to be receiving what you paid for but at least it is something for you to use to purchase new items. Because what else are you going to do with your clothes? Donate them? Give them away? Might as well get a few bucks off of them even if it's not full retail price! Anyways.. i sold at this location the other day this week. Easy breezy experience. The stores I've been to usually have you sign papers but this one is all digital. The nice thing is they don't make you wait in store while they sort through your items (some places make you wait). So i was able to run some errands at the mall while i waited about a hour for the process to be complete. The man working there was very nice and friendly. I dropped in on a Saturday afternoon to check out their clearance sale. It so happened they were also having a big "brand drop". They store was so crowded between the line at the sale counter and the random rack with their featured brands it was nearly impossible to shop their regular racks of clothing. I scanned a rack of Zara stuff and it was all outdated trash. I had given up on selling my stuff here years ago due to flakey sales girls giving me scripted speech about my clothes being too mature. This locations employees are very rude and apparently not correctly trained per one of the ladies who helped me. I brought in 2 bags of clothing that is in excellent condition and in style. The name brand jeans were denied because they are 'women's' brand.. isn't this a men's and women store? They had the brands on their racks and the lady who helped me stated some of the employees who do the buy backs aren't correctly trained and take clothing that they shouldn't.. this doesn't make sense. Either train your employees properly or accept the same brands that are in your racks. This store also has a ton of clothing that was is horrible condition that should have been taken to a goodwill.. came in looking for some new jeans. i found some but ended up returning them because they just didn't fit how i wanted. i was aware of their return policy so i made sure 100% i had the receipt. so before entering the store i had made sure i had the receipt (which i did) brought it up to an employee there and she had asked me if i wanted to keep looking around for an exchange. i had said yes might as well look one more time. i handed her the bag (with the receipt in the bag) came back and told her i didn't see anything i like, i would just like my full refund. she ended up asking for the receipt which i was confused because i had given the bag to her with the receipt inside. she said she couldn't help me cause i don't have my receipt, the only thing she could do was give me store credit, which obviously i didn't want because i brought my receipt. i started to get frustrated because i knew 1000% i had my receipt. i asked if maybe someone saw a random receipt and accidentally threw it away. maybe if they could check around the trash and registers. they were so slow to help. they barely even looked for the receipt all they did was just skim through. found nothing. they kept saying they can't give me a refund. i said i know i brought it, could we check the cameras to see maybe it flew out the bag? she ended up admitting that the receipt indeed was in the bag and flew out. then another co worker who was right next to the register admitted she did remember throwing away a receipt. i was really annoyed at this point because she heard me talking about this receipt out loud that i for sure knew i had and never said anything at that very moment until the girl said she saw the receipt on the camera. it was a very unprofessional and unpleasant experience. how does my receipt that i had in my bag, get thrown away? and yet if they never checked the cameras i would've have never gotten my refund. never shopping here again. they barely even give you anything for the stuff you sell to them & now they throw away your receipt and saying you never had it. pathetic. this whole store. the management. they don't value your business or money. all they care about is how much they make. one of the girls name was tabby the other i forgot, it might've been with k. don't shop here. they won't go out of their way to help. do better. read more

Plenty of parking, it's located in a plaza. Smaller store but had a lot of items. Not that many shoes. Men's sections was well stocked and they actually had sizes 12+ rare find. Staff itself seemed fine, I didn't have issues with them. The clothes and purses did have more wear then I expected, stains and such. A lot of the items looked like they had been tried on and had deodorant stains which the staff can easily clean but I guess they don't. The reason for less star is because they didn't offer an incentive for store credit when selling. They did offer me less money then other Plato's for my items so I expected an offer for store credit and they looked at me like I was crazy. I probably won't be back to this location but if your in the area it's worth a stop. read more

I have never sold here before and WOW! First off, I read so many reviews saying that the workers were rude. They were not at all. They are probably out of college or in college workers and they were very sweet. They gave the me run down of how the process worked. It took about and hour and in that time I got my nails done! I came back and they were offering me about $60 for 9 things! In my books, that's good, especially for never wearing those clothes in a long time. I had brands like lululemon, brandy Melville, urban outfitters, pacsun, etc. I think it was worth it because I never wear them. I don't understand people, you want to get rid of the clothes, so why not get a little bit of money even if you paid a bunch for the product! I've sold here multiple times and I've never had an issue with the staff or the selling prices until today. I had very neatly folded 2 bags of clothes along with a pair of shoes, a wallet and a brand new purse. I dropped it off and was told it was ready within about 45 minutes (not a problem at all). I went back and the girl basically handed me exactly what I had brought in, I was shocked because the current items on their racks looked outdated but that's okay I knew they wouldn't take all my items. However, my issue is that I brought in an $168 brand new with price tag purse, of course I wasn't expecting anywhere near the price I paid but I was boldly expecting at least $30 for the purse. Negative. The girl said $20 for 6 items including the purse, the brand new Kate Spade wallet and some random clothes. I was confused and tried to clarify that I had heard the girl correctly and she was very rude about it. In addition, I took the time to fold all the clothes, the least they could've done is given them back folded but they smooshed them all together and threw them back in the bag. Been to bell rd and Scottsdale platos closet so many times and never had a problem. Until recently I took in a tote full of name brand clothes. They only wanted the 8 new pairs of rock Revival Jean's retail at $168 from dillards and about 4 lululemon items and some shoes. We resale and take our overstock in all the time. They wanted to only give us $80 for all that stuff I mentioned and all I did was say you can't give anymore than that, there all new nearly. The so called long blonde haired girl assistant manager peaked her head over and screamed well we dont need it take it back and go somewhere else. I asked for her manager they all would not give a name or contact. Then some man with grey hair pikes out of office. And basically did not care we were returning customers and that I also shop for my teens at both locations. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH RUDE EMPLOYEES WITH A MANAGER WHO ALLOWED THIS TO GO ON. take your items to uptown cheapskate, Ebay, swap meet This place also takes your so called donated stuff prices it and throws back on the rack. All the girls here are extremely condescending, every time i shop here i feel like they are constantly staring and judgmental. They give you little to no money for items that retail for a lot of money. I brought in really nice conditioned air forces that retail for $100 and a pair of brand new tags and all jeans that retail at $45 and they gave me $14 for both my items. They are stuck up, and all the girls here don't provide costumer service in the best ability. i feel so uncomfortable trying to shop here when i'm being stared at, and made feel incompetent. i can only believe this store has the type of clothing and ragged shoes because no one is going to sell plato's closet a pair of $200 shoes for $10. This is the place were you have the option of just simply doing some shopping or coming in to get some extra cash on clothing. I've brought an endless amount of clothes in which I thought were good quality but they do take a lot of "in style" clothing so it's understandable. The first time I ever brought clothing here I received $20 cash!! In which I ended up just spending it in store lol. Make sure you sign up to receive messages from them that way you keep up with all their sales. Sometimes they have 70% off on top of their clearance or any other prices. The staff was friendly but it is very hard to sell anything here. I've visited on 3 separate occasions with a decent amount of time apart with new stuff each time and they've only bought 2 items. Most of my items were gently worn and clean, some were even new. As other posters mentioned, the reason why they didn't buy more or anything at all was that it was "too worn or style doesn't sell well". A lot of my items came from Forever 21 - a brand they have a lot of - and I figured I would have a good chance of unloading it. Nope. I had better experience at the other place I visit, Uptown Cheapskate. From now on, I won't even waste my time trying to sell here. I understand that it's not likely any place would buy everything that you bring in but when they say that my new stuff was too worn to buy, it's frustrating to say the least. read more

I typically sell my stuff at consignment stores and decided to drop off a few bags here at Plato's. This location is huge and predominately filled with female items. The clothing here is geared towards every day wear or the younger crowd. Brand wise: Forever 21, Hollister and Victoria Secret Pink. Nothing you can't get at the mall, pretty much. I noticed that this carries onto what they buy as well, they don't particularly buy higher end labels or "sophisticated" items. I probably should've picked a different day to sell as I sold on Friday and the wait was two hours for them to sort through and buy. I left with about half of the items I brought in and with extra cash in my wallet. The buyers were great during the process despite the long wait and kept me informed on my status of my sale. Didn't find much stuff I would wear from here, I'd rather purchase items at Arrowhead new-- but maybe you'll get lucky finding something here. Definitely a great place to sell/trade your clothing if you have similar or the above mentioned brands. read more

My first time to this Plato's Closet!! They deserve a MILLION stars! I asked for each one of the girls names bc everyone of them greeted me and helped me in one way or another! We just moved to AZ from KS. Loved our Plato's there, as well. I didn't have a chance to go thru my unwanted clothes before we moved so I brought 8 laundry baskets full of clothes. I believe Kiera was the first girl to help me and was a complete sweetheart! Regardless, they ALL were of the same amazing caliber! They got me all checked in and when I told them I had more than one basket, they came out and helped me bring it inside. WHO DOES THAT??!! They gave me the normal instructions and I looked about. This is a really nice Plato's! Great merchandise and marked at a reasonable price! It was clean and very stylish!! I am going to bring my daughter and son when they come into town!! My wait time wasn't long and I received MUCH MORE $$ THAN I WAS EXPECTING!! Wow!! My no thank you clothes were folded nicer than when I brought them in and the girls brought the remaining clothes back out to my car!! I literally closed the lid on my SUV And stood their with a huge smile thinking what a great group of girls!!! They reminded me of my daughters friends growing up. They obviously loved their job! They were dressed adorable...they themselves were adorable (on the inside and the out) and they went above and beyond to make a tired client very, very happy! It went a long way with me! Of course..I ran right back in and asked for all of their names! I know someone will be very proud to know how their employees behave when they aren't around!! KUDOS YOUNG BEAUTIFUL LADIES! She was putting clothes on one of the racks but then walked away so I went over to the area she was putting the clothes in to look. I guess she wasn't done yet cause she came back over and just stood there with the dirtiest look on her face and just glared at me! I realized she needed back in where I was and said sorry and was walking away and she pushed passed me with a huff and was obviously very annoyed with me. Look- I had no idea you weren't done there, it's not a big deal, all you had to do was say excuse me or something! Then the girls at the register couldn't stop talking ( gossiping) and I stood there for what seemed like forever before they finally noticed me to check me out. This place is always a hit or miss - selling or shopping. They are very picky with their buys even though most stuff on the floor isn't great. It's very hard to find good stuff for a decent price. It just seems like it's gone a little downhill. I am a brand person and I get over my clothes quite quickly so I frequently sell here (which might a problem in itself). They update on instagram the styles and brands they are looking for, but sometimes they still don't accept them. Most of the time you can bring in a bag or bin that you paid over $500 for and you'll maybe get $40 out of it (even designer like coach, kate spade, etc). The store, selling process, and the floor products arent TERRIBLE - I mean it's a second hand store. It's worth looking around. The main problem is the staff. The newcomers are sweet and friendly, but the staff that has been there awhile are quite rude and lack customer service skills. They may not like their job, but they could at least be welcoming. read more
