My husband and I stumbled upon JB's Cafe when we were in Council Bluffs looking to relive the salad days of the casino buffet. Harrah's didn't have a buffet at all anymore, and Horseshoe also didn't have an operating buffet (temporarily closed), and explained it had been that way since the pandemic, which made sense. Horsehoe's steakhouse was also closed, but they let us know their late night option, the JB Cafe was open, so that is how we found ourselves at the JB Cafe at 11pm one night. The cafe is quite casual, but the cashier at the front was very nice and funny. You order at the front counter and receive a number stanchion, then go and find a table and they bring your order out. If you get a soda, they come in very small cups, but I think that is because they are free like they are on the casino floor. The dining area was very clean, which was nice for a cafe tucked at the back of a hallway of the casino. Our food came out quickly and the server who brought it out was also pleasant and let us know the status of a few of the things that were still coming, etc. They had the breakfast menu available all day, as well as lunch/dinner items like burgers, sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. There was a special (that I ordered) of an open faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. It tasted pretty good but there were some hard chunks in the potatoes, so I'm not sure what that was. The turkey was good and the bread beneath, soaked in the gravy, was amazing. My husband chose the breakfast route and got French Toast, sausage, and scrambled eggs. I tried each of these items, and the French toast was sweet and tasty, and not too burned or too soft. The sides of eggs and sausage were pretty salty, so I think I would stick with just the a la carte French Toast if I ordered that again. So the staff were great, the space was clean, but the food was just kind of "meh" unfortunately, with good and bad aspects. I think I would only recommend JB's Cafe if, like in our situation, Jack Binion's Steakhouse is closed.

Lunch menu has limited items. The price is reasonable with big portion, but it tastes just ok. Nothing impressive.

JB's is located inside of the Horseshoe Casino in the back just outside of the Poker Room. Menu is a decent selection of breakfast items, burgers, sandwiches and regular specials. Omelets are very tasty with good sized portions for reasonable cost. If you have a Horseshoe Player's Card, you can get a 10% discount

This is great, quick food. The portions are HUGE. The staff is always friendly despite how busy this place always is. I had the hot beef sandwich which comes with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was enormous and could feed two people.

The tagliatelle was rich and the variety of mushrooms in the sauce added so much umami. We look forward to returning!

We walk in on a Monday night and there were a few people there. It's a small place so I'm glad we were able to get a table. When we sat down, the bartender, (waitress as well), came right over and took our drink orders and eventually our food orders. I wanted to try their renowned broasted chicken. (A device essentially uses pressure cooking and light frying to create a thin crispy skin and juicy interior). The chicken was some of the best 'fried' chicken that I've ever had, seriously. Super crispy skin and juice inside. Reminds me a little of Korean fried chicken. The texas toast was yummy, the cole slaw was creamy (if you like creamy slaw), and the crispy tots were crispy delicious. My friend got a broasted chicken sammich and he loved it too. (High praise coming from him.) My friends and I have been wanting to go back and get more broasted chicken since we left. On Fridays, they have a 4 piece special for $13.99 that I'll have to take advantage of soon. All in all, this little bar/restaurant has some amazing food that I just didn't expect after driving and running past it for years. Can't wait to go back.

Ok the other hand, the service is rather iffy & unpredictable. The chicken & waffles is my go-to for each visit, and they have many types of delicious sides to choose from, with my favorites being the biscuits & berries, goat cheese grits, and also the fried green tomatoes. I have zero problems with the food that they serve here, they always do an excellent job at preparing whatever they need to prepare & the portions are always satisfactory. As for the service, there are days where you will receive perfect service while on others the service is not so great. Some days you will be attended to in a timely manner, while there is other days where there isn't anyone available or willing to seat you somewhere. I've also experienced instances where they didn't attend to our table to take orders until I made a complaint. Most of these instances were during days where the place was virtually empty so it's not because of the place being busy. I've also ordered take out from here before, again some instances are perfect and there's other instances where they don't tell you if a certain food is out of stock via text or call so if you ordered something that isn't in stock, you're forced to wait for them to prepare something else once you arrive to pick up your order. They also don't always include syrup or butter in the takeout bags for chicken & waffles. One minor thing I'm also disappointed about is how the portion of grits has lessened over time, going from being served in a bowl to instead being served in a small cup/mug. Overall, I certainly don't return for the service because you never really know if it's going to be a good day or a bad day for that. It's always the food that brings me back. I do want to like this place, and I do to an extent but again the service is always unpredictable. I'd still say the food is worth coming here to see how it goes.

I had a free afternoon and for some reason when I check yelp, a couple spots in Council Bluffs, IA show up. I check around and they look fine, elevated bar/comfort food that could be from Anywhere, USA. Pork tenderloin seems to be the move with something fried on the side. LPL's really stuck out for a few reason - massive tenderloin sandwich and a super Midwest feel from the pics. Coming from Omaha, LPL's is about 15 minutes from downtown, but everything is 15-30 minutes it seems no matter where you go so might as well check out a new state. This restaurant is as middle of nowhere in the middle of nowhere as it gets. Nondescript building with just a few windows on the side of what seems like a main road for the area. I'm fairly certain there has not ever been an Asian and/or Hispanic person set foot in here, but hey, I was looking for a hearty and authentic meal and that's what I got. Felt like Joe and Marisa showing up in Alabama. I walked in and could feel the eyes on me immediately and went straight to an open bar stool. The place was pretty packed for a random Monday at 1pm. Everyone seems like regular locals. Server/bartender came up and handed me a menu and I ordered a Yuengling. I already knew what I wanted - pork tenderloin deluxe with some cheese curds. Very reasonable and necessary up charges for both. Now, when people exaggerate and say, "so and so was bigger than my face" I brush it aside, BUT this pork tenderloin was much bigger than my face and is comically large. They actually gave me a to go box to cut some of it up and set aside for maneuverability. I won't say it was seasoned well but the bonus points for size outweighs all. I cut and stacked with mayo and veggies to eat and it was very delicious. Crunchy and juicy with fresh veggies and needed richness from mayo. I was on my 3rd day of curds and ranch, no complaints there other than from my doctor I'm sure. I suppose I can recommend this place... it was just an odd experience of being so out of place for me but the staff was friendly and food was good making this a good place to check out. I would say it's one-of-a-kind spot but I have no idea what the rest of the Midwest is like. It's really in the middle of nowhere and getting an uber back to Omaha took a whopping 17 minutes. I, of course, appreciate anyone that reads my long reviews of random restaurants. I have no idea who is reading this review in NE or IA. $25 for a massive sandwich and 2 beers is the deal if the century. Way off the beaten path but may be worth a visit if you are visiting Omaha and what a different experience.

Most of the highlight was the various types of burgers and fries they had, so my partner and I got two kinds, and we both enjoyed our respective meals. I had the block burger, which was as good as I imagined it to be, with juicy patty cooked to medium and every ingredient needed to make a good burger. The poutine had a lot of beef gravy and cheese curds, which made the dish a comprehensive experience to consume, rather than just fries. The duck duck goose fries were amazing! The duck confit, cheese curds, mayo, gravy, and gooseberry gastrique combination worked super well on top of the fries, because they altogether basically made it a gourmet dish that I had to eat with a fork. Finally, the sloppy nick was seasoned very well, even if we got the vegan version, which used impossible meat instead of ground beef. It was still really great! Hope everyone who visits Omaha gets to try this spot! Their wall has quite a few articles that recognized them as a locally renowned burger joint, and I could see why. I also checked out their menu and noticed it was definitely a unique, interesting menu. Upon walking in, there was a line backed up to the door and I waited in it about 15 mins and it didn't move one person, but I used this time to check out the menu and decide what I wanted. After noticing the line not moving and the cashier in heavy discussion with the family that was there placing their order, I felt it might be best to use their online ordering for carryout pickup instead. While doing this, the line moved up once and I suppose that next party had questions too and of course, plenty of time was spent answering those questions. This might seem like good service, but when the line is that long, either have more people there taking orders or use a kiosk for those of us who don't need to ask questions, or remind guests that there are many others in line (probably after the first 5 mins of discussing the menu) and the line needs to move up. After I placed my order, it told me it was accepted and gave me a time range of when to expect my order. I sat down and waited until the end of that range, which was only a few mins, and then went back up to the pick up area to ask about my order. The lady working was very friendly when I explained what I did. She gave me a number and told me she'd bring my order out, she also gave me the drink I pre-ordered. A few mins later, she brought my food out. I looked around to notice that people who were waiting for food prior to me still hadn't gotten their food. I'm not sure if it's always this slow in there or if it was busy because there's a conference in town. Opening the clamshell that my food was in - I noticed a beautiful sandwich and fries. The fries were piping hot and crispy and tasted great. The sandwich looked really nice, but when I went to pick it up, I noticed the entire bottom was soaked in grease and their hot sauce that was on the chicken. So, I fork & knifed this meal. The flavors of all the parts of the sandwich together were nice, just wish I could have picked it up without being a mess. If I ever returned, I'd get something different.
