The best and only reason I go to eat at any bar and grill, fresh food served hot and this place is on fire.

I'm in Omaha for a few days, I had my ribeye steak, Reuben, fresh corn, Culver's, and plan a Runza…read morerun for the next day, what's the next move? I had a free afternoon and for some reason when I check yelp, a couple spots in Council Bluffs, IA show up. I check around and they look fine, elevated bar/comfort food that could be from Anywhere, USA. Pork tenderloin seems to be the move with something fried on the side. LPL's really stuck out for a few reason - massive tenderloin sandwich and a super Midwest feel from the pics. Coming from Omaha, LPL's is about 15 minutes from downtown, but everything is 15-30 minutes it seems no matter where you go so might as well check out a new state. This restaurant is as middle of nowhere in the middle of nowhere as it gets. Nondescript building with just a few windows on the side of what seems like a main road for the area. I'm fairly certain there has not ever been an Asian and/or Hispanic person set foot in here, but hey, I was looking for a hearty and authentic meal and that's what I got. Felt like Joe and Marisa showing up in Alabama. I walked in and could feel the eyes on me immediately and went straight to an open bar stool. The place was pretty packed for a random Monday at 1pm. Everyone seems like regular locals. Server/bartender came up and handed me a menu and I ordered a Yuengling. I already knew what I wanted - pork tenderloin deluxe with some cheese curds. Very reasonable and necessary up charges for both. Now, when people exaggerate and say, "so and so was bigger than my face" I brush it aside, BUT this pork tenderloin was much bigger than my face and is comically large. They actually gave me a to go box to cut some of it up and set aside for maneuverability. I won't say it was seasoned well but the bonus points for size outweighs all. I cut and stacked with mayo and veggies to eat and it was very delicious. Crunchy and juicy with fresh veggies and needed richness from mayo. I was on my 3rd day of curds and ranch, no complaints there other than from my doctor I'm sure. I suppose I can recommend this place... it was just an odd experience of being so out of place for me but the staff was friendly and food was good making this a good place to check out. I would say it's one-of-a-kind spot but I have no idea what the rest of the Midwest is like. It's really in the middle of nowhere and getting an uber back to Omaha took a whopping 17 minutes. I, of course, appreciate anyone that reads my long reviews of random restaurants. I have no idea who is reading this review in NE or IA. $25 for a massive sandwich and 2 beers is the deal if the century. Way off the beaten path but may be worth a visit if you are visiting Omaha and what a different experience.

Was chatted up by an inebriated local at the bar, who told me his life story, gave me advice and bought me a beer. The latter was a first for me. Will definitely go back, preferably for an after-work drink with co-workers. I still want to see the boot.

(They actually have BitBurger on T A P !!!! ) This new West Broadway HoT SpoT is just a few doors down from Bada Bing and Barley's Pub. If you want to drink the largest beer on Earth, request 'Das Boot' which literally translates as "The Boat". This is a must share with your friends, as you will be on the floor if you drink it by yourself. Traditional German Fare (Yum- Schnitzel!) is served along side an eclectic menu of Burgers, Fries (Pommes Frites) or Chicken. They also have "bar food" for the faint of heart, so if you want your cheeezy mozarella sticks with a chewy Hefeweizen this is the place. Darts/ Foosball/ Pool Table and booths along the wall if you feel like intimacy. If you are with a group, share the Tap Table and pour your own drinks at your table (Careful!!! There is a meter that measures how much you take.) There is a jukebox and if you are feeling cheap / they play canned Oom Pah music over the speakers. Great mix from young to older so no one feels left out. Just like Germany, in a word: Fantastisch!!!!

A pleasant atmosphere with a mix of upscale and casual, we were definitely on the casual side of the ledger. I ordered the Pasta with chicken, and he had the chicken breast with steamed veges, both from the lighter menu. I had a local brew, a brown ale (sorry, I forgot the brewery), which was among the better brown ales that I have had. Were it not too late, I would have ordered another. For dessert, I ordered the whipped tiramisu, which was divine. Overall, the food was excellent, not simply mass-produced chicken, but properly cooked and seasoned, and the pasta was excellent. My son was as complimentary of his meal. The service was excellent and it was a wonderful place to unwind after a long day. An excellent choice for food, spirits, dessert, and atmosphere.

We were doing a pub crawl and had a drink at each of the Capitol District bars. I think Annie's would rank probably in the middle somewhere of the places we tried. The ambiance is like a "hole in the wall" style pub with concrete floors and booths like you'd find in Dublin. There's an area at the back with leather chairs, dart boards, and a few board games. I'm not sure if it gets pretty busy at times, but we were the only group of people there when we went, and it seemed rather large and empty. The bartender was a little snippety, but I wasn't sure if this was part of the "schtick" or not, because she wasn't mean or rude, just a little short and hurrying us up to order (humming the Jeopardy theme song when someone was looking at the menu to decide). I took it as funny, so not mad about it or anything. I liked the vibe of the place feeling like you're in Ireland almost, but the cost is a bit expensive for the tiny beer sizes you get. Also you would think for trying to be an Irish pub type theme, they'd serve drinks in real pint glasses, but I got a tiny 12oz or so plastic cup of beer for $5. There are some good things about Annie's, but I think I prefer a few other places in The Capitol District, like Let it Fly or Roxxy.
