But be careful here. I asked about having just the brake pads changed on my vehicle instead of both pads and rotors. This should be a customer decision even though I knew at the time that an Ari could be made to do pads and rotors during the same visit. Reason? I intend to sell my vehicle over the next few months and to change rotors where is is no current rotor damage or heavy wear and deep scaring would therefore be a waste of customer money. My experience started when I paid Grant Firestone to replace the rear/crankshaft main oil seal on my 2017 Jeep Wrangler. I was charged more than $1,200 for the seal replacement and associated labor. The repair involves significant labor, including removal and reinstallation of the transmission. Later, I brought the Jeep back because I was having an overheating problem. Grant Firestone was unable to determine the cause. The owner then looked at the vehicle briefly and told me I had a cracked head gasket. I was quickly given a quote of more than $4,000 for the repair. At that point I became suspicious and decided not to authorize the work. I took the Jeep to another reputable mechanic for a second opinion. The head gasket was not cracked. The actual overheating problem was the radiator, which needed to be replaced. While performing that work, my new mechanic also discovered an oil leak. Further inspection determined that the leak was coming from the rear main seal - the same seal I had previously paid Grant Firestone more than $1,200 to replace. This is where my experience became especially concerning. After the transmission was removed and the area could be inspected, my mechanic determined that the rear main seal appeared to still be the factory-installed seal. He also found what he identified as the factory silicone/sealant still present. In other words, according to the independent mechanic's inspection, the seal I had paid Grant Firestone to replace did not appear to have been replaced. I have photographs documenting what was found when the transmission was removed, which I am including with this review. I contacted Grant Firestone about the continuing seal problem and was offered warranty work. But after another mechanic subsequently found what appeared to be the original factory seal and sealant still on the vehicle, I was not comfortable allowing Grant Firestone to work on my Jeep again. I requested a refund instead. I understand that automotive diagnoses can sometimes be wrong and that replacement parts can fail. If this had simply been a replacement seal that failed, I would view this situation very differently. My concern is that an independent mechanic found evidence indicating that the seal I paid to have replaced had never actually been replaced. Between the incorrect $4,000+ head-gasket diagnosis and what was discovered with the rear main seal, I lost confidence in this shop. I'm sharing the photos so people can see the condition that was documented and make their own judgment. Based on my experience, I will not return to Grant Firestone and would strongly encourage anyone facing an expensive diagnosis or repair here to get an independent second opinion before authorizing the work.
