Dropped my car off with a specific request to find the source of a noise and fix that issue. They…read moremisdiagnosed and told me the noise wasn't a safety concern and if we could live with it then that is what they suggested. AC was making a sound when turned the AC on and off. They said I needed to fix several other issues, which we did. We try our best to keep up with maintenance as needed. When we went to pick it later that day, they then said they found the source of the noise we were originally supposed to find and it needs to be fixed. So I spent $800 on things that would need to be done in the future but weren't pertinent at the time. So now I need to come back or go somewhere else and fix the original issue. Which is a problem with the cooling fans and must be done. It felt like we were scammed and we talked about the original issue several times and they played dumb acting like they couldn't find the problem until we showed up after spending $800 of added work that could've been done later. I could've used that $800 to fix the real issue and do the other stuff later. They just lost out on the opportunity to be my mechanic as we just moved up here and that I would use for years to come. Hope the $800 was worth the $10k or probably more yall will miss out on over the next decade. I wish I could find a great mechanic that was honest and not feel like I'm at the hospital and they are just running up the bill with all the tests and visits from numerous doctors and nurses. I can't say I would recommend this place. Sure they fixed some issues but not the real issue and now want us to come back and fix the real problem with more money. He was nice and professional and explained to me what he was going to do and then next steps based on what he found. He removed the existing refrigerant from my vehicle (informing me there was only a small amount left) and did a vacuum test on my system to confirm whether i would be able to hold new refrigerant or whether he would need to diagnose a leak. It held the vacuum and he filled it with new refrigerant. A few weeks later and it is still blowing cold. I was in and out in about an hour and the cost was very reasonable. The key item for me is that CARS was honest. The place appears to be run by the owner, and he doesn't try to do repairs that are not needed. I want three things when having auto repairs done. 1) Honest shop that doesn't sell you things or services you don't need. 2) Take care of my car and don't mess it up (scratches or whatever), and 3) Repair done right at a fair price. CARS clearly excels at the first item. My repair was pretty simple, so there wasn't likely to be any concerns with 2 or 3, but the repair was definitely done right and there was no damage to my vehicle. I have a friend who referred me to CARS who has been using him for a couple of decades. He told me CARS has done a good job with his repairs and that he was very honest and the cost was fair. I paid $700 in total. The mechanic told me the issue would be resolved after replacement. However, within a few days, the same check engine code returned and the issue was not fixed. A second mechanic and 3rd at muffler shop later confirmed the installed converter appears to be a generic unit that may not be sufficient for this vehicle. I had to replace the installed one again with the proper one and pay additional $500, I tried contacting the business for follow-up but did not receive a response. I am sharing my experience so others are aware. I do not recommend using him.

I rave about Poutous Auto Repair to EVERYONE!…read more I recently moved to the area and needed an oil change. I'm a big proponent of local businesses for auto repair. I tried Mister Oil Change/Car Wash for a while, but honestly felt like they were always trying to stack on additional things needing fixed on top of an oil change. I did a Google search for oil change services in the area and Poutous stood out to me because of the high reviews. The experience was so easy! My car was done in about 30 minutes. I drive an old model Tahoe and had always opted for pretty much the cheapest oil, usually a cheap Mobil 1. When I spoke to the mechanic, he mentioned that they used a price friendly premium oil that would extend the mileage of this oil change more so than the oil I had been using. When checking out, the man at the front desk signed me up for their rewards and loyalty program, which gave me about $20 off the service, making the oil change much more price friendly than any place I've been to in Houston. Afterward, I spoke with a mechanic about my Service Engine light which is throwing an EVAP leak code. He was very upfront that there was no immediate issue other than not being able to pass an emissions test. He then proceeded to tell me the process of finding out where the leak is, giving me my options based on best case scenario and worst case scenario and informed me that if the leak would take longer than 20-30 minutes to fix, they would provide a shuttle to go home and I could pick up my car when ready. He also gave me a price estimate based on similar instances. And seriously, I've never had a mechanic be so upfront with me about pricing and process. The communications I receive from Poutous make me smile! They're so genuine and so kind. I actually received "Poutous bucks" and a hand written note in the mail, and for me, those things go so far! I will definitely be using Poutous from here on out. I've never been so pleased with an auto repair shop!
