Squeak in my brakes when backing up so went in to have it checked out. Went to Ripley's on Cypress Creek Parkway in Houston. Told $85 just to diagnose which will go towards any repairs, I agreed. Told brake pads only half gone. I asked if they could grease anything, said it would cost almost $400 to grease the calipers and was given a quote for new brakes. Left paying them $85 with nothing done to my car. Went straight to a Jiffy Lube on Gleannloch Forest, they looked at my brakes (for free) and greased them also for free (not inside the calipers as offered at Ripley's). Jiffy gave me a very reasonable quote for new brakes. When I called Ripley's back, I was told that Jiffy gave me a temporary fix which actually is fine with me, I wasn't offered that at Ripley's. I expected a reasonable effort to resolve the issue, particularly since I paid $85, and I won't be returning to Ripley's. read more

I have used Ripley's Total Car Care for many years. This 60 year old family owned business truly treats their customers like family. Recently, I had the opportunity to experience how honest they are. I had taken my SUV into NTB on FM 2920 at Kuykendahl for rotation of my tires. The rotation was free, but they presented me with an unrequested estimate to replace the struts, shock absorber and wheel studs - for a total of $1,875. This was a surprise since I hadn't had any problems. I took my car to Ripley's to check out the struts, etc. --- There was nothing wrong with anything! I had a spectacular experience with the Spring location of Ripley's. David answered all of my questions over email when I was having a hard time finding anyone in the city that offered a mid-muffler delete option for my new Challenger. I dropped the car off prior to work, Sam had a gentleman drop me off and pick me up from my office and the work was done and it sounds great. I did have a hiccup where the car ended up with a small dent in the right fender while there. I emailed them pictures and they had me bring it back, no questions asked, and fixed it. The service is great, the pricing is fair, and the work is quality. About all you can ask. Highest of recommends if you're looking to do mods on your exhaust and muffler. read more

I took my car here and i needed my brakes redone. they did fine on that but charged $1600 for it when all of the parts are like $450 (shooting high) and the time it takes do do them is 4-6 hours. Labor fee was very expensive. Then, they found something wrong with the engine and fixed that too. the total came out to be about $2500. My problem is that when i went to drive it after i picked it up, i noticed the check engine light was on and also while i was sitting at a light, the WHOLE CAR WAS SHAKING. Not normal. Not pleased with my experience at the Ripley's brand. I called for a quote over the phone on a fuel evap canister replacement and was given a range of 300-$350. I even called back to confirm prior to having my vehicle dropped off. They told me the diagnostic fee and that it goes towards your bill if you get your vehicle serviced at that time. So I'm like okay cool I'm okay with the price so I don't mind the $99 diagnostic fee because I was confident I would move forward with the job based on the price I was quoted. Next thing I know I get a call with a quote nearly double ($575)!! Now I think I'm a very reasonable person and I definitely understand that a quote over the phone is not exact, but this is just egregious. Another $50 or something is one thing, but this wasn't even close to what I was told. All they had to do was be transparent from the beginning saying what the price for the job could actually end up being, but I feel (and this is just my opinion) that they purposely lowball and they get their $99 either way. Which by the way is a totally over priced diagnostic fee. I was only okay with it because it was going to get credited toward having the work done. This is the type of thing that make people think mechanics are out to rip people off. All they have to do is be transparent from the beginning. read more

Update: after taking my car to a different mechanic, it turns out whatever part Ripley's used to fix my car was some after market piece of junk that went faulty after a week or two. Now I'm paying for the EXACT same work to be done again. This time with factory parts for my Nissan. This place is an absolute ripoff. I'm beyond disappointed. Went in for a diagnostics to figure out why my check engine light was on. I was given a laundry list of items wrong totaling almost $2k. I opted to only fix what was wrong with the engine for now. So nearly 3 weeks and $500 later and my check engine light is back on. I added an extra star since the staff was friendly and they did the work in a timely manner. Although I am now not sure if anything was fixed at all since I still have the same issue. Bummer. read more

Bad costumer Service after sale. I bought a muffler yesterday (feb 2016) I ask for a recommendation about sound for my muffler car. They told I don't have idea and they cant suggest any. Well is fine for this. They proved me two different options and I decide one of those. When a drove my car. I listen the sound and I really don't like it. 15 min later I called them and ask if I pay the labor for uninstall the new muffler and install the oldest and they told me NO. (Only 15 min later) No money back, no change, no anything. I think a good company needs to offer a good service every time. I don't like anything for free only I like to feel comfortable with my muffler and paSound car. I don't recommend buy there. read more

Got an oil change and inspection there a few days ago. My car passes inspection and the only thing they recommend is that I get an air filter within a few weeks. Next day, check engine light comes on....take it back to them and they run diagnostic and tell me to take it to get looked at since it had nothing to do with what they serviced. Take it elsewhere and $100 later and new air filter is put in car....shouldn't Ripleys Mufflers and Brakes at least figure this out and suggested it be replaced immediately? read more

Ripley's did an outstanding job repairing my car. I won't give all the details because this post will become a mini book. Long story short my car broke down so many times I was ready to trade it in and get a new one. I was taking my car to a mom and pop mechanic who obviously did not know what he was doing. My car sounded like it was on its last leg. Walt had a diagnostic test performed on my car. Thanks to Ripley's my car sounds and run like new. I am so happy I took my car there. Took my Jeep to Ripley to replace one front brake caliper that was sticking. They insisted on changing both calipers, both sets of brake pads, both rotors, and both brake hoses. I had the car inspected two weeks before and everything was fine. The bill for that repair was $1400.00. When they took it for a test ride, the car would not start. The y "diagnosed" it as a bad computer. They replaced the computer for $1100.00. After this I noticed my rocker panels were all bent from the car being lifted incorrectly during the brake job. I pointed it out to Dave Ripley and he blew me off. Two weeks later the car would not start again. I had another shop check it and found a bad cam position sensor. Total charge $50.00. I believe they overcharged me for the brakes, changed a good computer, did not fix the problem and did significant body panel damage to my car. I would not recommend this shop for any work. read more

They have me several options and then let me listen to them on my truck before installation. Dishonest or incompetent not sure which, but after my 3rd visit they could not pinpoint a freon leak in a AC system. They continued to charge to repair two separate parts and neither fixed the problem. Mark at the front desk has zero customer service skills and blamed the leak on a air filter. I dropped my car off at 7:45am on a Tuesday morning. I showed the guy at the front desk a video of what my dash board lights were doing so he would have an idea of the issue. I called at 1:00pm and they had not looked at my car yet. I called again at 4pm and they still had not looked at my car (they close at 6pm and I am single and have only one car). I told them to forget it and not bother, that I would come pick it up. I was driven to Ripley's to pick up my car and it was parked exactly where I had left it. read more

They do okay work. Manager is rude. They charged me $120 to push my car in and out of the garage. Handed me a part and said this needs to be replaced. I have to find it and they don't know what it's called. They also helped me get some frozen bolts off on my bumper free of charge. Mixed reviews but manager keeps me from wanting to go back. He has been great in the past. Maybe I caught him on a bad week. read more

David and Mark @ Ripley's Total Car Care on Rayford Rd. took great care of me. I've used Ripley's in the past for break repairs, oil changes and to make my Taurus SHO exhaust sound SWEET! This time I got into a fender bender and the original shop I had the car towed to quoted far more then I could pay. I had the car towed to Ripley's on Rayford Rd. They confirmed the repairs and had an option with an expense similar to the first shop but.... they were able to work with us and offered a "Plan-B" we could afford without sacrificing safety. On April 2020, I found Ripley's Total Car Care online. I had my vehicle towed there, they explained the problem, and repaired the fuel pump relay, timing belt, side engine mount ($1,747.74). Then 3 months later, my car won't start. I had an emergency tow to another shop, and they discovered that the fuel line was not attached to the fuel pump securely, and they asked if a repair done recently. I told them about the repair that Ripley's Total Car Care worked on in April. With trouble shooting, testing, and labor, I paid for the repair of Ripley's Total Car Care incomplete repair. I contacted Ripley's Total Car Care several times, and they never responded. Now people make mistakes and I understand that, but for Ripley's Total Car Care to not respond, I WILL NEVER USE THEIR SERVICE, AND I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THEIR SERVICE, unless you want to spend ALOT of money for poor quality and poor value. read more

Unfortunately we have not had a good experience with Ripleys. Took our truck there for repairs 6 months ago only to have the issue happen again. We took it back to them since they supposedly guarantee their work...they don't! Charged us for a diagnostic fee and claimed it was something else causing the problem. Whatever you do, especially as a female... DO NOT take your vehicle to Ripley's, aka RIP OFF'S. Rodney sits back with a Mr. Nice guy attitude underneath that snake in the grass attitude, Took my vehicle in for repairs that he diagnosed, which ended up being an $800 + tune up. Should have been a red flag then that they are too pricey. While my vehicle was in THEIR CUSTODY, I get a call that my driver's side door handle was broken... ok? My door handle was in perfect operable condition when I dropped my vehicle off. So in addition to the $800 tune up, he expected me to pay for the broken door handle. He conned up some figures to make me think he was helping me by not charging me the full fee to fix something they broke, Picked up my vehicle and now the same door (driver's side) window is malfunctioning. (go figure that one). Called Rodney and of course not owning up to that either. Being new to the city, I was looking for somewhere I could go and trust that I wouldn't get ripped off. Wrong place. Right name: RIPley;s. I'm a firm believer in KARMA.. therefore I'll be fine... as for Rodney..you'll be thinking twice before ripping off the next innocent customer. Great experience getting a new muffler for my truck. I originally chose them based on email communication when I was pricing different muffler shops. They were very thorough, gave me a price, explained the price, and didn't pressure me to come into the shop immediately. When I made the trip a couple weeks later We discussed options, and they stayed true to their price. The general manager was nice and polite, as well as the technician who did the work. They got me in and out quickly (about an hour and 15 minutes from walk-in to walk out for a muffler swap) and were very professional. I would definitely recommend this shop for their service. Their price was also no different to other shops for a magnaflow muffler swap. read more

5 stars because they did what they were asked and the simple repair was done well. For me that is what really counts. However, The manager Mark should be avoided. Talk to the owner if you can. Mark is harsh and rude - just doesn't come across as a nice person. They should check their selves with diagnostic fees. Most every shop will charge a diagnostic fee and that is understandable. But, $90 to take 60 seconds to connect a voltmeter to the battery and see if the charging system is working? Come on! Almost every parts store in the country will do that for FREE. People should definitely get paid for their service. If any mechanic or parts guy does something for free - Tip Them. Good Repair - Not comfortable with Customer Relations. read more

Recently I needed a new exhaust system for my Ford F150 PU and found that to be very expensive when including all necessary parts including Cat Converters, so I over time purchased Flow Master complete direct fit items in order not to have to spend so much money at one time and went to Ripleys business located on Rayford Rd Spring, Texas a dealer who advertises Flow Master products, for an estimate to install as a dual exhaust system I was quoted a price for install which I thought was very high but with using stainless pipes supplied by Ripleys and limited time I set up a appointment. After arriving for appointment and mechanic placing vehicle on rack I was told that my owner supplied Flow Master 70 series mufflers would not work for this vehicle do to undercarriage room availability. It was then decided to keep exhaust system as a single exhaust system at which time the estimate for less work and less material went "higher" in cost than the original "dual exhaust system" Should have been a red flag to take my business elsewhere. But again short on time, going out of town an needing vehicle I agreed to price. A day later after installation noticed a exhaust leak at one of the joints where clamped not welded. I contacted Ripleys in person explained the problem and was told to bring vehicle back in to be welded at joint.Something that should have been found and corrected at the original install a couple of days earlier. Upon returning for correction I was told that the cost would be an additional $50.00 to correct leak. Upon asking why? I was told that these were my parts and not purchased from their business and there was no warranty (the exact Flow Master items sold there). NOTE: There was no problem with the product Flow Master Direct fit exhaust the problem was with their workmanship to install and failed to weld the joint the week earlier. I took my exhaust leak problem to another Muffler shop and had the problem corrected in seconds for no additional charge by the new muffler shop after explaining my problem and experience to the new muffler shop. I know who will be getting my business in the future. Reviews are a good tool for future customers to use, learn from my experience when choosing automotive repair shop. read more
