Based on that experience, I can say with confidence that we were repeatedly misled and overcharged. I made the mistake of trusting Steven Herrera to assist my daughter with the purchase of her first vehicle--a used Land Rover. That trust was completely misplaced. The vehicle was grossly misrepresented, poorly serviced, and priced more than $2,000 above its actual value, under the false impression that we were receiving a fair deal. Since the purchase, the car has been plagued with ongoing mechanical issues, compounded by substandard workmanship and a continuous stream of excuses and false statements. Taking advantage of an 18-year-old purchasing her first car is indefensible. Told $85 just to diagnose which will go towards any repairs, I agreed. Told brake pads only half gone. I asked if they could grease anything, said it would cost almost $400 to grease the calipers and was given a quote for new brakes. Left paying them $85 with nothing done to my car. Went straight to a Jiffy Lube on Gleannloch Forest, they looked at my brakes (for free) and greased them also for free (not inside the calipers as offered at Ripley's). Jiffy gave me a very reasonable quote for new brakes. When I called Ripley's back, I was told that Jiffy gave me a temporary fix which actually is fine with me, I wasn't offered that at Ripley's. I expected a reasonable effort to resolve the issue, particularly since I paid $85, and I won't be returning to Ripley's.

I ended up paying a little over $1200 for the diagnosis which also included a charge of $250 for spark plugs, $250 for radiator coolant flush and $250 for brake fluid flush. The technicians diagnosed the problem as a knock and I needed to replace the engine but with nothing to back up their diagnosis. I went to another shop and got the same diagnosis, again, with the same diagnosis and nothing to back up or guide me to the problem. Finally, I called Angel Car Medic (via Yelp) and got a very detailed diagnostic report including cylinder pressures. They pulled the spark plugs and showed me how bad they were - even after just being replaced. Long story short, the diagnosis Christian Brothers provided was correct but they charged way too much for the other services. I was so stupid to select them for this!

I called Milstead around 6:20 pm because the online portal did not show that the status of my service had been updated to show that the tow truck was in route or that the truck had already picked up my vehicle. I was told by a Milstead employee that their drivers were behind because of traffic and could not arrive before 7 pm. This was going to be a problem because the business my vehicle was at closed at 7 pm. The employee said that she could reschedule my service for 8 am the next day and I agreed to that. For the original service request, I spoke to a Milstead employee at 4:24 pm to confirm that they had received my request and it was confirmed. No one from Milstead contacted me to say that they were not going to be able to adhere to their arrival time. The next day, I called Milstead around 8:15 am to see if my car had been picked up and the employee said that my service had been set for 10-11 am and could not be moved to a sooner time. I let the employee know about my situation from the previous day and she said there was no documentation that my tow service was rescheduled for 8 am that day. I canceled my service with Milstead because they pushed back their arrival time twice without updating me that they would be doing so.
