    Patty Melt

Our team of 20 kids and 7 adults went here for brunch. It looks and feels like a Denny's, but more homey and comfortable. Filled with seniors, you could tell they were regulars, as some were leisurely playing cards. I browsed the menu, and it very much reminded me of a Denny's menu as it had items I hadn't seen in ages, like Liver & Onions, Bologna & Eggs and Classic Pork Chops. I ordered the Patty Melt (another old time classic) with onion rings, and it felt like nostalgic comfort food. Anytime you have this many people in a group, there tends to be issues. But they did a fantastic job. Even though, for obvious reasons, couldn't bring out all the food all at once, they did it in batches in reasonable time. In fact, I think we were in and out in 90 minutes including multiple split bills, so when looking back, is really quite impressive. Comfort food, in a super relaxed setting, and really fast service. Great for a team meal outing with no fuss.

    JB's breakfast

JB's has some of the best breakfasts in the city. You get a ton of food and the prices are very decent. Today I had bacon and eggs with hashbrowns and toast, and it was only $8.45 for a huge plate of food. There's no way I could ever finish a plate here. Lucky for me my husband has a bigger stomach than I :) Other breakfast offerings include omelettes, french toast, and pancakes. They have a full lunch/dinner menu as well. JB's is in Beverly in the northeast part of the city. It's not too far from my place, so it's easy to get to and nicer than going to Denny's or something like that. It's got a real diner feel, in that the food is tasty and reasonably prices, and the waitresses are waitresses, darnit!, who have been doing this for years with real personality, not teenagers in short skirts trying to get tips. The restaurant is actually really big with a lot of tables and a high ceiling; very clean and open space. Every time I've been to JB's it's totally busy, but I've never had to wait more than a couple of minutes for a table. They have a small parking lot but it's usually full. Lots of street parking available. Breakfast lovers, go here!

A little rough around the edges but great food diner. A friend of ours goes there regularly and has fond childhood memories of the place. For Sunday brunch it wasn't super busy and there were plenty of open spaces. Parking is right next to and behind the building. The menu recently had been updated as our friend advised us- and we found there was a good selection. The servings are quite large and we all enjoyed what we ordered. The extra toast, hashbrowns, or pancakes is a nice touch for those with hollow legs. Service was decent, our food all came out at the same time and the best item was the eggs Benedict. We also tried the caramel apple French toast and blueberry pancakes. The fruit on top of these items is the super sweet sticky stuff so if you like that it is in abundance. Our servers were great- very pleasant and helped us whenever we asked. There was also a survey and a draw we could enter.

I should have taken a picture before I was almost done. Glad I asked for very well done hash browns and very soft eggs. :-)

Mediocre food. Bad coffee. Bad service. I had the eggs Benedict and my husband had the cowboy breakfast. Asked for water, never got it. They take your order , leave you with a carafe of bad coffee, drop off food, drop off bill. No follow up on the food. Hash browns have no seasoning and my husband's were mushy, I asked for very well done hash browns. Deep fried sausage- yuck! Average prices - not cheap, not overly expensive. But for this same price I have much better breakfasts. This is not my normal part of town but even if it was I would not be back.

We would go back in a heartbeat, just need to sleep off the food coma for a while. It's bright and airy in spite of the smallish space and the amount of booths and tables, oh and you can sit at the counter. The walls and ceiling are covered in memorabilia, concert banners and what not. The place was absolutely hopping at 12:45 PM, but we were sat in a booth right away. Waters dropped moments later, asked if we needed coffee, tea or whatever else you wanted to drink. Our server was fantastic, explaining and educating us as we were first timers. The food came out piping hot very quickly and our tea ordered after the food was dropped came in a large teapot and hot just like at home. The clubhouse, which I did not have, has house made ham and turkey according to our server. My corn beef had slices of corn beef that did not taste house made, but the sheer volume of meat I couldn't finish, the eggs were cooked perfectly. K's Mexicasa omelette was excellent with the Mexican meat the star. I know why the place is consistently full, it's that good. Definite redo when back in West Edmonton

I love their cinnamon buns but this time I did not order one. My friend and I came here for supper. It was delicous. I had the Red Curry Laksa with prawns, PEI mussels, bok choy, carrots, bell peppers, red onions, vermicelli noodles, red coconut curry sauce, and cilantro. My friend had the falafel and fries. I loved my Red Curry Laksa. It was fresh and rich. Loved the red coconut curry sauce. The seafood was a decent portion. My friend liked her falafal but it definately wasn't the best she has had and was eyeing up my curry. Service was OK. I feel like because we didn't order alcoholic beverages, we didn't get service as much as the tables that did. That won't prevent me from coming here again.

Both were so very tasty, and did not disappoint. The ambiance of the restaurant is different than many places I've gone to. Being close to the University of Alberta main campus, many young students compose the clientele of Sugarbowl, but not limited to. The decor is very nice - brick walls and posters, and hand written beer menu, to name a few. Service was very good, professional, and friendly!! Overall good experience, and will return again in the future.
