It's probably deserving of a three star for the food, but I find the place on the expensive side (that 1 $ sign on yelp is definitely not appropriate) that couldn't justify the taste. I've also got some gripe about the service.
We haven't been able to find many indonesian cousine around the area, and decided to give this a try. We waltzed in on a Friday early evening. Given how busy this Yes plaza is on Friday-Sunday, the restaurant has surprisingly few patrons. We ordered Babat Fried Rice, Kalasan Chicken, Cah Kangkung, based on fellow yelpers' recommendations. Babat Fried Rice is basically fried rice with fried beef tripe. It tastes decent. The fried rice actually reminds me a bit more like the fried rice you would get at a teppanyaki, rather than at a Chinese restaurant (that means the use of soy sauce if liberal, and each grain of rice is oiled and separated from each other). The Kalasan Chicken is well marinated. The Cah Kangkung was basically the only veggie dish on the menu that we can find. Came at a market price of $11.95, and it really boils down to stir-frying on choy (the "empty heart veggie" or the "hollow veggie" for Chinese), toss in a few quail eggs and EXACTLY two pieces of shrimp.
As I said, the food is average, and I'd be happy with the food except for the price. Cah Kangkung is actually the more disappointing, as stir fried on choy is really nothing special, neither are the eggs, and the two pieces of shrimp were dry. For this to cost $11.95 is over-charging. The chicken and the fried rice were about $8-$9 per order (only ordered half chicken), and really, for that price, the portion were not big at all.
Then comes my gripe on the service. We initially sat down and were served water. My wife first redeemed her check-in offer for a jasmine tea. I tasted the water -- it felt a bit funny tasting. It certainly isn't what tap water should taste like. I'm not too sure if they special-treated the water for some flavor (not lemon or anything of that nature), or just that the detergent were not washed off the cup properly. I decided to just ditch the water and redeem my check-in offer for the jasmine tea as well. I walked over to one of the server, told him I wanted to redeem the tea, and showed him that I marked the check-in offer as used on the spot. He then happily forgot about my tea, continued to talk to the only other customer in the restaurant until they left, and started to clean up the table. Knowing that he forgot about my tea, I waved him over to remind him about my tea. He then pointed to my wife's tea and said "isn't that the check-in offer you redeemed?" I said no, we have two smart phones, and we could both redeem the offer, no? He then promptly asked my wife to show him that the offer was redeemed on her phone... WOW, I understand that it's a virtue to be thorough, but that's how you treat a customer? As we scrambled to try to figure out how to call back up the redeemed offer and to show him that two offers were redeemed, he then said "that's OK, I'll give it to you anyways". That totally made me feel like he thinks I'm trying to cheat him, over a 50 cent boxed tea?
To sum this up -- the food is not bad at all, though expensive. I would say each person would probably need to spend $15-$20 to get a substantial dinner at this place. That's too much for the quality of the food. Then the service is a bit shaky. read more
