About as authentic as you can get for indonesian food. the problem is that i'm not a huge fan of indo food. I usually get the bbq chicken or satay. they use the traditional kecap manis and the peanut sauce. the owners are indonesian and they get indo treats shipped in. if you want to go exotic i definitely recommend it. read more

I've been here only a handful of times and have enjoyed my meal every single time! I usually get the Nasi Bungkus- so good, perfect amount of spice, though I tend to add more and the portions are enough for two people. If you come here, you must try the Nasi Bungkus as it's only served on weekends as other Yelpers have mentioned. We also ordered the stir fried and they were equally good. There are some safe options such as fried rice and noodle and some more daring options like the weekend special which included Rice Wrapped in Banana Leaf with Spice Beef, Marinated Fried Chicken, Egg, Tofu, Jack Fruit Chili Sauce. The names were impossible for me to pronounce but the flavors were undeniable to resist. I went here on a Saturday with my family, most of us have never tried Indonesian food before and this place seemed simple and sweet enough to try. The restaurant itself is a bit small and seems more like a fast-food joint than a sit down restaurant. We ended up getting the best of both worlds; food came out fast and also quality food. We ordered a couple of different items so as to try a variety. I had the combination fried rice which came with both shrimp and chicken and a fried egg, we also got the flat noodles with shrimp, the fried noodles with bbq chicken, the fried rice with lamb, Rice Wrapped in Banana Leaf with Spice Beef, Marinated Fried Chicken, Egg, Tofu, Jack Fruit Chili Sauce, the bbq chicken with rice and some butter shrimp. It was a ton of food all with an exceptional degree of exciting flavors. The fried rice was perfectly spiced, not an overbearing spicy level yet the subtle burn with the after taste. I would of preferred the egg over easy but it was just as tasty fried. One of my favorite dishes was the bbq chicken. It was seasoned so well and all the juices made an excellent sauce for the rice. Mom wanted to try Indonesian food and this was the first thing that popped up Yelp. It is located very close to the freeway and is located in a strip mall which has lots of parking spots but was completely filled by the time I went. On weekends they have a special dish which is made in banana leaves. I don't know how to describe it but I can tell you it contained eggs, rice, chicken, and a bunch of other tummy stuff. This place was okay. The chicken dishes were pretty flavorful, although they lost the taste of chicken. Their coconut chicken special served in a banana leaf was had more than just a hint of coconut. The green chili/spices has a slow heat kick to it, but it'll strike when you least expect it. The other regular chicken dish was very tangy. The garlic shrimp was good as well. Took quite a while for it to be served, and (strangely) they ran out of very, very generic soda... seriously?! I have to take Fullerton Road from the 60 freeway to get to my parents house, so I try and stop by once in a while to get my Indo-fix. Authentic Indonesian food is so hard to come by, and whenever I hear that one opens, I try to go there and see if it is truly authentic Indonesian food. I came in with my family and we order bone marrow, soto ayam(chicken on skewers), marinated chicken, a beef dish, noodle soup dish. Even though the bone marrow, marinated chicken, satay ayam and noodle dish was good the soto ayam was somewhat bland and the beef dish was a little dry. The marrow dish was full of flavor and my friends couldn't get enough of it. The chicken dish juicy and tender, you could work your way into the dish without straining a muscle. The satay ayam was delicious as well it is accompanied by a peanut sauce that gives the satay more flavor. This place is incredible. An Indonesian co-worker introduced us to the place and I was hooked. The chicken is simply indescribable. I do not know the exact process but it seems to be marinaded, cooked and then grilled. The skin melts in your mouth and the semi-sweet, delicious flavor fully permeates into the tender meat. It's simply the best grilled chicken I have ever had. They also have a nice peanut sauce salad that I always get. You pour some "sweet soy sauce" over it, toss it, and it's really, really good. The best part for me is the drinks. The tropical sweet drinks are like dessert. And for people who don't mind fishy smelling food, they have a crispy fishcake that goes really well with the "sweet soy sauce." I always end up eating too much here. We all ended up ordering fried rice since they were on the lunch special menu at $6 a plate, so I guess we have to come back later to accomplish our goal. The decor was nice, but nothing spectacular - just like a regular restaurant. The tables could use some upgrade though - the one we sat in was like an aftermath scene of an earthquake. The service was mediocre at best, the waiter gets the job done, but he sure didn't look happy doing it. Don't expect to feel welcomed or appreciated here or you'll be disappointed. Quick disclaimer: I don't know the exact names of any of the items I ordered so here's my best description.. Ordered a buttery shrimp and chicken satay. Drinks: rose coconut drink and a durian drink. Everything tasted good, they use real durians and coconuts in their drinks. The peanut sauce that goes with the satay is worth remembering, and the sauce that the shrimp was cooked in would be great with just white rice. However, the portions are dinky and overall I don't think that my 4 items should have totaled over $26. It looks small when you first get it because it's wrapped but when you open it there's a lot in there and you get full easily from it. Inside it are rice, egg, chicken, tofu, and beef but they only serve it during the weekends. I tried Java Spice because my favorite Indonesian Sate House closed due to owners retired. Here I ordered nasi goreng complete, plain fried rice with 2 sticks of chicken satay. Compared to Sate House this one portion was much smaller, but you got 2 satays. Taste was good. I also ordered kangkung on hot plate, bit pricey but also delicious as it was seasonal item. I came here with my family, the people that works here are pretty nice. We got the one of their specialty, which is the rice wrapped in a banana leaf, and it's the best!! It has chicken, beef, eggs and a little of spice, baked inside a banana leaf so it's got a nice aroma. I am in love with this restaurant. I recently visited Indonesia to stay with my boyfriends parents and I was treated to all the amazing food. My favorites are porridge, rendang, mixed rice in banana leaf, and soto ayam. I was in luck, they serve rendang, and soto ayam.. and it tastes authentic! Soooo good. Also their nasi goreng is amazing. My boyfriend who grew up in indo said that it tastes exactly the same. I was very satisfied, it cured my indo cravings! And I'm going back tomorrow to get their Saturday/Sunday special banana leaf mixed rice. So happy we tried this place, my boyfriend and I will be faithful customers! I love the Ayam Kalasan (chicken with dipping sauce) here! The chicken falls off the bone and the sauce makes it perfect to eat with white rice. Half a chicken with 1-2 other side dishes is good enough to share between two people. If you don't care about calories I would recommend the Indonesian fried rice instead of white rice. One of my favorite fried rice so far. Another dish to get is their stir fry ong choy serve on a hot sizzling platter. Best stir fry ong choy ever!! Very fresh everything we get it. So it's a must get if it's in season. This dish will make the entire restaurant smell like garlic, fish sauce, and soy sauce combined. So get it too if you see anyone else getting it because you will smell like it even if you don't. This is the perfect vegetable dish to get with the chicken. read more

They have a pretty good pempek (a fish paste based dish, hard to explain...hahaha...) At least the best in the States that I've tried... nothing can really beat the real thing in Indonesia... ^^ I usually order their Nasi Bungkus (around $7-8) or Nasi Goreng Babat "Tripe Fried Rice" (around $7 also).... Nasi Goreng Babat 3. Es Duren 4. Nasi Padang (only on weekend) 5. Es Sirsak I think out of all SoCal indonesian restaurant, its empek2 and es duren are the best. I would drive all the way from Loma Linda ( 40 plus miles ) to get their pecel lele (crispy catfish) . Hands down, one of the best Indonesian restaurant in LA.
