Special Combo Rice Plate (Nasi Komplit)
Daniel K.

Cute Indonesian cafe in Upland! We popped by and split the Nasi Kamplit Spesial (special combo rice plate) It easily fed two people and was delicious with beef rendang, turmeric and coconut rice, turmeric fried chicken, spicy egg, a stir fried sweet potato and tofu, and a veggie curry soup. Everything was cooked too order and fresh and we loved every element of our dish. They fry their own scallions and garlic as well which took it to the next level. Come by for some Indonesian home cooking, bakery and drinks!

Everything was so good! Service was wonderful, food was amazing. I'll definitely be going back!

Went in to order to go since I was in a hurry but this isn't my first rodeo here. The owners are sweet and nice, I was able to speak with them on occasions about my trips to Indonesia and the differences. Sop Bon Tut (ox tail soup) was my lifesaver there so to find a place locally that has the authentic flavors was amazing. They also serve cafe items like coffees and teas, various seating areas and a nice light atmosphere fit for comfort. Curry, authentic (if you've been to Indo) as all the food. I always ask for chopped chilis, Birds Eye for the extra spice, and the turmeric fried rice is always cooked well. This also comes with some rice crackers I believe but that was my snack during the drive.

I really enjoyed The flavors. However, the beef rendang was a little cold. Actually, I had to warm my food up when I got home and it was only a five minute drive. The chicken was hot though; It was cooked fresh and tasted great. The rice was amazing. The tofu was, shockingly, really really good. I'm not a big tofu person. But this was delicious. Their hot sauce/ chili sauce was really good. It tasted like it had fish sauce in it. I'll definitely recommend this place. Only reason I'm not giving them A five star is because it was a little cold.

This is a fantastic small Indonesian cafe that serves authentic and delicious Indo food. When you arrive, you place your order and pay first. The food came out pretty fast and was so tasty. Here's what I got: Special Combo (Nasi Komplit Spesial) - A little bit of everything, and it was SO good. We got it with a mix of rice, and it was such a fulfilling dish. You really can't go wrong since you get to try everything. (5/5) Bakso Tahu Kuah - Loved this meatball soup. The flavors were great, and the mix of soup and noodles was delicious. A must try. (5/5) Nasi Sate Babi (Pork Satay) Plate - I loved this, but my wife and mother-in-law said it was a bit too burnt for them. The flavors were really good though! If you like it a bit charred like I do, you'll enjoy this dish. (4.5/5) Fried Bananas - Wow, this was good. They don't batter the bananas; they just fry them on a pan/wok. Sweet, simple, and delicious. (5/5) This is clearly a hidden mom and pop gem. The owners are super friendly and kind, and there aren't many Indonesian options around the city of Upland. Yes, some dishes are a bit pricey, but they're made well and taste better than many other Indo places I've tried. It's pretty far from home, but if I were in the area, I would totally come back.

4.5 ratings but I'll up it to a 5 because I really enjoy my time here. Kedai is located in a small plaza. They are known for their Indonesian food which is hard to find in this area. The place isn't too big with a couple of tables, mostly tables for two. They do reserved tables. The day we were there, they had a reserved table set up for 8 people. You order and pay upfront. Kedai also sell some pastries. We started off with the Risoles, which is a chicken roll and we also got a banana chocolate roll. Both items were really good. It has good flavors and not oily. We also ordered the Kaya toast which was delicious. For our entrees, we got the Oxtail soup, turmeric chicken wings, beef rendang, and chicken satay. My favorite of all the dish was the chicken satay. The chicken satay was cooked well. It wasn't overly char and you can taste the flavors. The dish also came with a spicy stir-fry tempe and tofu but I thought it was okay but i did love the jalapeno in it. I love that you can choose between regular rice, turmeric rice, or half and half. We went with half so we can taste both. I also enjoy the oxtail soup. The meat just felt off the bone and the soup was very comforting. The beef rendang was okay, it was a bit harder to chew. I really wanted to try their chicken porridge but they were sold out by the time we arrived. Its just something I need to come back for. The service was okay. Be patient. There was just one guy we saw who took our orders and brought out our food. I think he was just super busy. Overall, a great place to come for Indonesian food.

I haven't had too much Indonesian food, but every time I've tried it, I've loved the flavors. I'm always up for trying new dishes. A friend found this plate from their amazing reviews. Don't let the unassuming shop in a strip mall deter you. When you first walk in, it looks like a casual coffee shop with a small pastry rack and some snacks. I didn't think much of it at first, but was pleasantly satisfied at the end of the meal! We were all eyeing the Bubur Ayam (chicken congee), but unfortunately, someone ordered the last batch right as we got there. Instead, we tried a mix of pastries and dishes, and everything impressed. My favorite pastry was the chicken risoles. The crust was perfectly flaky with a light, savory chicken and veggie filling. * Kaya toast - 5/5 - Original flavor jam was perfectly sweet and so delicious. I could eat this every day. * Sop Buntut (Oxtail soup) - 4/5 - The flavorful, clear broth with tender oxtail and a side of rice. The broth leaned a bit oily for me, but still very enjoyable. * Rendang Sapi (Beef in coconut milk seasoning) - 5/5 - The sauce was incredible. The beef was a little on the tougher side, but the flavor more than made up for it. Served with fragrant rice and fried tempeh. * Tamarind chicken wings - 4/5 - Juicy, flavorful, and always a favorite for me. * Nasi Kuning Sate Ayam (Chicken satay plate) - 5/5 - Three skewers of perfectly cooked, flavorful chicken served with rice and fried tempeh. I can't wait to come back and try more, especially the pastry selection. A real hidden gem that deserves more attention.

Stopped by recently and had a great experience. I ordered a hot latte along with the chicken skewers and rice, and everything came out really tasty. The latte was perfect and the food was flavorful. What I really liked was the environment. It's not too loud, so it's a great spot if you want to sit down, work, or just relax for a bit. There were plenty of tables available and parking was easy, which is always a plus. The staff were very kind and helpful, and the music playing in the background was calm and relaxing. Overall a really nice place to spend some time. I'll definitely be back.

Chicken Satay, tempeh, and coconut & Tumeric rice.

This cafe is a gem with unique Indonesian foods, the owner Sebastian was kind and happy to share his culture! He shared the story of how he started as a cafe and how many people requested Indonesian food so he slowly added items to the menu. The food reminded me of dishes with Filipino and Thai combinations. The satay came with a choice of coconut rice or Tumeric rice or half and half. I had hoped to taste something new and interesting and I got my wish! It was so delicious and the portion was generous! The ambiance was quiet with gentle non lyrical music playing soothing jazz like tones! Free WiFi and I got some work done! I can't wait to bring my family here!

came here before an event and I don't really go to this area often so I was excited to spot this new Indonesian restaurant. not only the place is clean, I feel like they did a good job on maintaining the authenticness of the food. husband and wife who work here are very sweet people and I love supporting Mom and pop shop. Their pandan latte is amazing. I also bought a couple of food for to go. Their bakso goreng (fried meatballs) are amazing! There are plenty of parking in the plaza too :)

Love this mom n pop Indonesian cafe! I visited this cafe for lunch while on the way to apple picking in Oak Glen from LA and me and my friends' experience here was great! We all opted for family-style since we wanted to try a little bit of everything. Here's what we got: - Iced Pandan Latte w/ Oat Milk: This was a great pandan latte that married the pandan and espresso flavors well. I've had many pandan lattes where I only really taste the espresso flavor, but this one pulled it off nicely. It was perfectly sweet and gave me the boost I needed for the day. - Special Combo Rice Plate (Nasi Komplit): Loved all the components of this dish. The fried chicken had a good chicken fat flavor, but I wish it was crispier, but liked how it easily came off the bone. The beef rendang was tender and had a nice coconut flavor. My favorite was the tempeh which was seasoned nicely and I loved the sweet, sticky sauce it was coated in. I also enjoyed the egg and the tomatoes and cucumbers were a nice touch of freshness. - Ox Tail Soup: A homey stew with comforting broth and tender oxtail meat. Liked the crackers it came with for an added crunchy texture. - Kaya Toast: Yummy and I liked the french toast-like bread. The kaya jam was rich and sweet, wish there was more of it though. - Pork and Chicken Skewers: Both of them were great and meaty. They paired well with the delicious peanut sauce. My friend and I preferred the chicken skewer over the pork one though. - Nasi Uduk: Loved this vegetable curry, especially over the rice. It had a nice and creamy flavor with a good amount of heat. - Coconut and Tumeric Rice: Loved both of these rice flavors which paired well with all of the food we got. The service here was good and the staff were super friendly! A lovely homey vibe. For parking, the restaurant is located in a plaza shared with other businesses so there's plenty of parking options. Overall, I had a great experience here and I would come often if I lived in the area. Would recommend to anyone visiting or passing through the Upland area.

Came here on a Sunday at noon, and the place was completely empty the entire 1.5 hours we stayed. It's tucked inside a strip mall with plenty of parking. The space has a bright, minimal setup with one long row of tables--more of a coffee shop vibe than a full restaurant. I didn't realize it was an order-first, sit-after kind of place until I got there. Only saw one worker which I'm guessing is the owner, but service was smooth, and the food came out in a reasonable time. We got the Nasi Komplit Spesial, kaya toast, and a side of sate ayam and bibi to share. The rice plate was a good sampler--beef rendang had good flavor but was a bit tough, fried chicken and spicy egg was solid, tempe was a little too soft and plain, the vegetable curry was a little watery and bland, and tumeric rice was good. The kaya toast was more like French toast with kaya spread--it was crispy from all the butter and tasty, but not traditional. The skewers were a miss for me--way too sweet. Overall, a decent spot with some hits and misses.

**December 2024: Weekend Afternoon Visit** I don't eat Indonesian often, but when I find an Indonesian restaurant I almost always want to try it out since their flavor profile utilizes different aromatic spices than Chinese cuisine. The restaurant is located in an unassuming shopping strip mall in Upland and has beautifully crafted dishes. My friend and I each ordered an entree, but shared everything family style. We ordered the Sate Babi Plate (Pork Satay) and Oxtail Soup. The soup was my favorite. It was early, light, and the meat fell off the bone. I could eat that everyday to be honest. It would be especially perfect if I was under the weather. I would absolutely get that again and maybe try the Beef Rendang and some of the pastries. Parking was ample and service was standard. I would definitely love to come back!

I think I saw this place pop up on my social media which is how I got on my radar. I signed up for the newsletter and did a pre-order when they did a pop-up. I don't have a lot of experience with Bali/ Indonesian food, but this was such a fun, novel experience and the food was really tasty. I ordered nasi bungkus, the kueh lapis, and the es cendol. From their website, the nasi bungus contained the following. STEAMED RICE Fragrant lemongrass rice made with coconut milk, pandan leaves, and galangal SAYUR URAB Long bean and bean sprout dish with toasted coconut and kencur COCONUT CHICKEN CURRY Pasture-raised chicken, slow-cooked for six hours MOTHER-IN-LAW EGG Hard-boiled egg marinated in tamari and topped with chili paste TEMPE OREK Fried soy bean cake in a sweet and spicy glaze SAMBAL GORENG Spicy Thai chilies, shallots, and garlic, fried and finished with coarse salt KACANG BALI Bali-style salted peanuts ABON BABI Traditional dried pork garnish The kueh lapis is a fun colorful, coconutty dessert that is nice, thick and chewy. The cendol is a nice desserty drink made of coconut milk, pandan jelly, red bean, and diced jackfruit. The drink reminds me of something similar in the Vietnamese culture. I was a fan. The desert was beautiful as well, and had such a fun look to it. I like the chewiness, and it was fun the peel the layers. The nasi bungkus itself was a nice combination of flavors and textures. I bought some of that chili stuff in a jar and added some extra on top. I liked that there was a kick, but not so much where I started sweating. The spice was a nice level. I got a little excited and ordered a lot of food and was totally full by the time I finished my items. Pick up itself was really easy. After you pre-order early in the week when they do a pop-up, there's a time window where you pick up - and in this case it was Friday afternoon - night. When I got there, they were friendly, and just directed me towards the counter, where they did final prep to give me my food. They even gave me some reheating instructions just in case. Super friendly and you can tell they put a lot of care into their product. I hope they have all the success in the world and would like to order from them again.

They serve authentic Indonesian foods that remind me of Jakarta. Today I was really craving Ayam Goreng Kremes, because it's been many years since the last time I had it. Nasi Ayam Kremes is a combination of Indonesian style fried chicken, white rice, perkedel (fried potato pattie), fried tofu, fried tempeh, and sayur asem soup. The chicken is deep fried after it's been cooked in herbs and fully marinated. Very flavorful as I can really taste the different herbs and spices. Over the fried chicken is a generous serving of savory crunchy crumbs. There's also a side of medium spicy house sambal. I would recommend adding some kecap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce) and use this as dipping sauce. The half fried chicken is rather small, about the size of a Cornish hen. The soup is pretty good, even though I am not a fan of sayur asem soup. This tamarind-based soup contains green beans, chayote, corn rounds, and peanuts. The deep fried marinated tofu and tempeh are so yummy! They truly remind me of the good ol' days living in Indonesia, as they are the staple foods of the locals. The perkedel is just passable, possibly because it is served cold. Unfortunately, it isn't as crispy as it should be. The restaurant is small. Other than the kitchen crew, only one person was doing all the work. Good and very friendly service. My order did take a long time, however. If you're in a rush, you may want to eat somewhere else. Indo Bistro is the place where you really want to "santai" which means relax, take it easy. Indo Bistro is an Indonesian restaurant, mini-mart hybrid. They sell a variety of pre-packaged Indonesian snacks, shelf stable groceries, and also freshly-made market snacks, such as pastel, lemper, bakcang, rempeyek, etc. I also tried their savory snack Lemper, which is sticky rice stuffed with shredded chicken that's been cooked in coconut milk. After it is wrapped in fresh banana leaf, it is then char-grilled. Their lemper is really good, but very greasy. It's basically food and lip gloss in one. BOGO Lol Next time when I'm craving more Indonesian food, I'll be coming back to Indo Bistro. They have really good chicken satays.
