Overall, this place is an awesome addition to the area and has such a nice atmosphere! Both the food and drinks are delicious. The outdoor seating area is adorable, and the inside has a very cute decor, as well. A few comments on things that could be improved: 1.) They always seem to be out of oat milk (when ordering coffees/lattes). As one of the only cafes in the area which offers oat milk on their menu, this is one of the main reasons I like to come here for espresso and coffee. I am always disappointed when I find out they've run out of oat milk by noon (has happened multiple times that I've come over the last few weeks.) Clearly it is a popular option, so I hope they start to stock up and keep oat milk in reserve so this stops happening, as it often defeats the purpose of my trip there. 2.) Since this is a java shop (therefore in some ways competing with the local Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts), I feel they should have a rewards program for coffee/latte drinkers! I would probably come daily if I knew there was some kind of reward or points system that would eventually earn me a free drink similar to other coffee shop chains. Even a punch card would be nice. Otherwise it is more economical to get daily coffee drinks elsewhere and only come here for the occasional splurge. 3.) The register is often unattended and other employees behind the other counter usually won't address you while you're standing there waiting for someone to ring you up. Slightly awkward -- would be nice if they'd say hello or let you know someone is coming to help you soon! Other than these small issues, definitely recommend this place! read more

My Grandmother was not treated very well there recently..... and quite frankly... if you cant treat an older woman very well then you need to consider your customer service manners. Second time I've eaten here and disappointing service as before. Empanadas were good but chickpea soup was like $8 and just a tiny cup full of whole chickpeas and broth, no veggies. Total meal was l was just under $20 served by totally disinterested staff after trying for 10 min to get someone's attention. I know this is a difficult time for restaurants but it's been hard on us all and so I'll go down the road to DeliClub or Delilah's Falafel next time--better food served at a better price and with a dose of kindness. read more

I really REALLY want to like this place but by god they make it difficult. I've been at least a dozen times. If I've been 12 times, they've screwed up my order 11/12 times. Tried Java Nation for the first time. It was a cold morning and I wanted something comforting so I ordered the pupusas which I love. My usually pupusa place was closed. So I gave them a try based on the reviews. The cafe aesthetic are adorable very cozy, and warm. The staff are very pleasant and it definitely contributes to the atmosphere. I ordered ahead and they took 30 minutes for the order; it was a busy morning so I understand. I was a little turned off by the price 3 pupusa for $11.60 compared to my usually 3 for about $7. I had higher expectations with a price increase. I was disappointed there was little to no filling and the pupusa was dry and thick. The chicken tasted like can chicken and could definitely use some cheese. The red bean and cheese was good just not enough filling. Not worth the price. I may return to try the bakery. read more

You want to like this place. Servers are accommodating and friendly. Based on an underdone cinnamon bun for breakfast, and a disastrous $45 three course meal, the kitchen has a lot of work to do. My first experience this morning was not great. I asked for a cheese danish. The girl at the counter said back to me egg sandwich. I said no cheese danish. Then my partner gave her coffee order and the girl repeated it back completely incorrectly. We waited for our order to go and I had to ask her to give me my danish. I visited this restaurant tonight and I was really delighted with the music, the food and the atmosphere that is breathed here. I think my server's name was Patricio, who gave us such pleasant and professional attention. The food was served in perfect time and our glasses were never empty because he took care of filling them and on top of that with an amazing attitude and sense of humor (look for him if you'd like to have a great time while he serves you). This is a cute-looking place whose decor includes touches of both modern and rustic. It is small, so with even two or three tables monopolized by loiterers with laptops, it's difficult to find a table for two, much less three or four, at lunchtime. I ordered tuna salad which came on lettuce with olives, cherry tomatoes, and pickled onions. It was just okay. The table next to us was quickly claimed the moment it became available but the customers had to go find someone to clear and clean it. In case you or your kids have allergies, this review is for you. I have bought baked items from Java Nation bakery and asked if any of their process is contaminated and I was assured it was not. Well, something was contaminated because my son (who is allergic to nuts) was sent to the hospital. I then decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and went to the restaurant. My son wanted a brownie and again we asked (twice) if there is any concerns. I was told not to worry about it and they make everything on-site. Well, again we were hospital bound with epi-pen, etc. What really annoys me about this process is that the restaurant was not really that apologetic. They asked that I reach out to the owner and let her know (Simona). No response from her on repeated emails. I was not looking for anything other than an acknowledgement and advice on what went wrong for the future (especially since I got so many assurances that it will be fine). All the employees were really nice until a lady who seemed like a manager came 30 minutes before closing time. And she kept staring at us and the employees came every 10 minutes to ask if we were done with our foods. We've spent almost $120 there so we were expecting a little more service. There is nothing that isn't great at this place. You might not think of it but they have the greatest pupusa's in Rockville! Honestly I've had many and they are the best.
