This place just opened up, and it's now the closest establishment to my place... and I'm loving it. I've been there 5 times and have had a different sandwich or breakfast item each time, and everything tastes great - really great. They have grilled cheese sandwich with mushrooms that is amazing. The tuna sandwich is remarkably tasty for a tuna sandwich. I think it's the bread. The coffee was just average, but the food and casual / trendy atmosphere makes up for it. The staff has been very friendly. Definitely recommended. The fact that it's newly opened and already relatively packed says a lot. That is, of course, until the COVID19 struck. I was very excited when they opened and have been comming here almost every week, however my excitment has declined due to their food and service. I have had a few good dishes as well as a few bad ones. The thing that has disappointed me is the service. When they are busy, it shows. I can feel the tension of the staff and one of them even snapped at me when I asked something, almost like I was annoying her. I really love this place. Every meal I've ever tried has been so good. The coffee is delicious. The food/drink quality is just always wonderful and consistent. In addition to good food, I'm all about the vibe of a place and the general vibe of this place is so great. I love that it's this nice local spot with great, cozy seating without any pretentiousness. I've only ever come here for lunch and breakfast but definitely want to come by for dinner since I've heard good things about that service as well. If you are going to fast, you will miss this gem on Rockville Pike. We went yesterday to grab a late lunch and take advantage of their outdoor seating. We ordered two oat milk lattes, the avocado toast, and the huevos rancheros. Everything was good and we were able to dine outside under the canopy. Love this place. All the food was so tasty and fresh. The coffee was delicious. I ordered the BLT with a fried egg which was not on the menu but they graciously made it. The bean papusas were great. Will have to go back to try the other ones. They offer outdoor seating with covering. We also got a banana loaf to go after all that food. Great vibes !! This is a hidden jewel in Rockville pike. Coffeehouse with a lounge feel and suave ambiance and great background music to chill and relax with friends or family. Live music (and sometimes comedy) on the weekends makes it even nicer. Love the menu ! Just with enough variety to be the perfect companion for coffee or wine (specially the Serrano flat bread and desserts). The owners and management always strive to be on top of things paying attention to detail and with a great disposition to constantly improve the place. From the moment you arrive, you get a warm welcome from the hostess (Mayra). Servers are very attentive, energetic, and have a good team mystique and spirit. I am so excited that this place is finally open! I've been driving past the sign and stopped in with a friend for lunch. Right now they don't have copies of the menu, so you order from the signboard behind the register and they bring food to your table when its ready. Service was quick and everything we had was tasty. I loved my lox bagel--the pickled onions were delicious, the carrot cake was moist--though somewhat lacking in carrots, and the huevos rancheros had a very flavorful salsa that wasn't too spicy. The background music might have been a little loud and with the small size of the seating area, it was definitely somewhat hard to carry on a conversation. The bar looks cute, they're set up for you to bring a laptop and use their wifi and outlets to get some work done while having a bite to eat or a drink. Despite my intentions, I didn't end up trying the coffee this time so I'll have to make another trip back to give it a try. read more

Very, very good coffee. Putting that out there first. Had a drip coffee and it was smooooth, and on next visit, a vanilla latte. Their latte tends on the creamier side; there was still a surprising sudden strong flavor of coffee though. Very nice! But.... Customer service is BAD. The black girl with glasses working there was so grumpy both times, making me wonder if it was not just a bad day! I asked what was a baker's latte. She told me, it has ghee butter. Sorry guys but that is just as baffling to me! I asked some questions to try to get more info but nope. She cut that off real quick. "The only difference is it has ghee butter." Refused to give any more explanation! Whoa! That same visit I watched as two coffees in mugs sat on counter for five minutes or more. The couple had not known they had to wait at counter for coffee; they were in outdoor seating area, waiting for rest of order. PROBABLY THEY HAD NOT BEEN TOLD as the girl certainly said not a word to me after I paid! It was just a cold little silence, maybe she was upset I did not give a 40% tip. The poor man came back up for the coffee, finally realizing, and the barista who had made them KNEW how long those coffees had been out and KNEW they would be cold as anything, so she made no eye contact with him and gave very short responses to his questions! Poor man--if he ended up daring to ask for them to be reheated or whatnot, I suspect it would have been done very passive aggressively. Still working out the kinks but getting into a good groove. I love the lattes. For some reason the caramel lattes taste more like a mocha than any mocha Ive ever had. There is like a dark coco thing going that makes me think coffee notes may be a real thing. I love the croissant with brie and some kind of preseves. I love this thing. For a mocha not mocha latte and a brie croissant I will make the journey in the opposite direction of my commute. Sure will. I came by on Tuesday to grab two croissants but they were out at 8 am. Which is kind of stocking issue. Which goes back to working out the kinks and starter pains. I need to explore the menu more. They have a lot of available parking right off the pike. The staff seem to still be figuring things out but the service has gotten better on each successive trip. Hopefully it will be full steam ahead soon. read more

Wow! I give this place 5 stars just for the fact that it has made a great first impression...and I haven't even had a sip of coffee or bite to eat! "Why?" you ask, well, from the road this place looks like it would be a simple coffee shop in an awkward location (I mean come on, it is next to a bar that burnt down in 2019 and a dry cleaner in "no-mans-land" Rockville pike!)but...the the wait staff is super friendly, the interior is fantastic (worthy of downtown Bethesda or pike and rose) and the menu is very tempting. I write this at 4:45 on a Saturday and I have a dinner invitation at 6 or elSe I would not hesitate to order of the Latin/European/fusion menu. I'm so thrilled this is finally open! Went over the weekend during their soft opening twice. My sister and I were immediately greeted by a staff member that took the time to explain how the establishment worked and flowed, which was much appreciated. They have a full coffee, tea, and breakfast menu, in addition to yummy pastries and meal options. Oh, and the bar! The first time, I got the huevos rancheroes breakfast, as well as an iced caramel latte with oat milk. The second time, I got the ginger lemon tea. All were amazing. The staff is knowledgeable and kind, the ambiance cozy and homey. I look forward to returning to try more of their meals, and their happy hour. This is a very nice coffee shop with decent food, very good pastries and coffee and excellent shady outdoor patio seating with good ventilation. Air circulation in the covered outdoor patio area is really good, with ceiling fans in addition to the open design of the covered patio, which is a huge plus if you're concerned about covid-19. I'm thankful for this place opening up because the Rockville Pike area around North Bethesda was really missing a place like this with coffee and comfortable outdoor seating. Empanadas and Pupusas were excellent. Tried the asparagus side dish which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. We just had our first great dinner bite at Java Nation. We stated with a mocha latte and a beer. I almost traded my ice cold beer for the best mocha latte I've ever tasted. I don't usually drink coffee at night but would order this again, maybe for dessert drink next time. For dinner we shared the grilled fish taco and brisket sandwich. The grilled fish was juicy and well seasoned, not dry and skimpy. This taco flavor profile had something differently delicious--whatever magic was there seemed further enhanced by the spritz of fresh lime. I requested sourdough bread for the tender, shredded brisket-jalapeño sandwich. It was was toasted to perfection and blended well with the coleslaw that served as the only condiment added and needed. This sandwich was hard to stop eating even though it was overly salty. (Hence the 4, nit five stars.) The decor is cozy and tastefully thought out. There is a variety of seating, from bar, high-top community table to standard tables. The staff was warm and friendly and seemed to move about busily but with respect for maintaining the social ambience. As we left, we made plans to return for breakfast.
