I got the lavender bubble tea with 50% sugar, and it was the most sweet, cloying drink. Milk, Tea, the only flavor was sugar. So cloyingly sweet, it was inedible. Dark, dingy, decorated by an old women. Anything with eggs in it will fuck up your stomach same with the coffee. They pre-make everything and leave it in the fridge, that shit just sits there and they can't make adjustments because they pre-made it. This includes sandwiches and drinks. My aunt wanted a peach green tea but can't have sugar because of her diabetes and they said they can't remove sugar from them because they add syrup. So don't add syrup. Their deserts are really cheaply made - pure sugar especially the muffin it's not even dense just super empty carb quality. First coming here I was a bit stressed from the day and ordered my usual, a black milk tea with extra boba. The tea was sweet but not overpowered with the milk inside. They didn't use powdered milk, they used regular but in their options menu they could change out the type of milk if you asked. ( almond, etc) The drink came out fast. I sat down and it was already done which was quite nice. So I was able to sit down and truly enjoy the drink for a bit. The place itself was small but comfortable, with things to look at in every turn. I went down to the back hall and was greeted by the many artworks or phrases on walls from other customers. I had time to kill so I took some time to add in my own touch and although they only had two markers at the moment, they took the time to look around to see if they had any others with me asking. One of my favourite bubble tea shops in the DC area - because they have a delicious roasted brown sugar milk tea, and their lemon tea is good as well. It's not on the sky high standard of some of the best of New York, California and Texas Boba shops, but compared to the rest of the DC area, this might actually be the best in the region. The service is absolutely amazing as well. The guy running this place is an angel, and his treatment of customers and willingness to customize drinks is as pleasing as the delicious drinks themselves. I came here for the first time yesterday on a coffee date. I was really glad that it was warm and smelled delicious the moment I walked in! I was greeted and served promptly when I walked up to the counter. I looked over their menu quickly both in person and online. I was convinced that I was going to order a fancy coffee but then I saw that they had matcha green tea lattes which sounded amazing! So I ordered one and they crafted it similar to regular lattes and they politely asked if I wanted 50% sugar/sweetness or something like that and I declined bc it sounded like too much sugar so they said they'd do 25%...whatever that meant. Haha! It was good though! Very creamy, delicious fine quality matcha powder (ground up dried green tea leaves) and yes, some sweetness! There were lots of customers there which is always an encouraging sign. People always were coming and going with a lot of people studying, listening to music, or browsing. I always enjoy people watching. Definitely had a good time and found a new place that I'll be able to frequent fairly regularly! :) read more

I go here on a pretty regular basis because I work from home and I get tired of my own house. I love Java loco because it's not like the coffee is the best quality however they have so many choices you will never get bored. I've gotten a Matcha latte, a regular latte, Boba, and even a smoothie. There's just so many things to get here there's definitely not anything that an expert in but the variety is worth it honestly. They also have outlets everywhere which is amazing and amazing seating. Decided to visit Java Loco since it was close to the Bf's Apartment and we need coffee. Very interesting setup it's like a coffee shop but then it looks like your outside in a cafe but then there are retro stools. Very hodge lodge. They have coffee,bubble tea,gelato,baked goods, sandwiches and A whole lot of speciality flavored drinks. The BF and I decided to keep it simple so I got a Lavender Latte... nice and hot which is really uncommon for most coffee places. My lattes are usually pretty lukewarm. It had just the perfect amount of sweetness and you can smell the lavender. My only gripe is they don't make their own syrup it's the bottled stuff. The BF got a Espresso Bon Bon... 2 shots espresso with condensed milk which pretty much tasted like Vietnamese coffee. Since the BF was hungry he got a gyro egg sandwich on a croissant with cheddar cheese which came out nice and toasty. They give you bread choice and cheese choice for the sandwiches so it's customizable. Overall it's a pretty decent place for coffee if your on the area. We probably will return to see what other crazy lattes we can try since there are so many flavors offered. read more

Not sure what happened to this place. I've been a vegan for 7 years, and I'm aware tapioca pearls are vegan. I asked a few questions about a drink as I wanted to switch up my order. The lady first said the boba has gelatin, it shouldn't. Then I asked about a black tea with oat milk and she said none of her stuff is vegan. The coffees were burnt and so so hot, could not drink them for 10 mins- and we drink hot tea everyday. I've been coming here for a few years now and while I would give at least a 4 stars for the breakfast sandwiches and the lattes I usually get, I'm giving them a 3 now. During covid, I have not felt like social distancing has been enforced in the coffee shop and that too many people are sitting in there for how small the space is (and that's from a person who only does pickup anyway- no way will you catch me eating or drinking *inside* any establishment right now). I hate to say it, but I've actually stopped going for pickup because of how uncomfortable I am just waiting on my order to be ready. I tried to do call in orders so that my stuff will be ready and I can be in and out but you still have to wait to pay if people are in front of you when you arrive.
