According to other reviewers, we must have visited this place for breakfast on it's worst day. We sat outside, bees were swarming everywhere, service was extremely slow. We watched several people come into the front patio, sit down, wait and get up and leave before even being offered coffee or anything to drink. We waited over 30 minutes just for our tab to pay up and leave. Food was ok, but not worth waiting that long for it. And, the owner had come out and moved us to a different table (while we were having coffee and after we had ordered our food), to accommodate a larger group coming in for breakfast. We did not mind moving, but he was kind of bossy and did not even ask us to move, more like told us too and said "the bees in that corner will not sting you." I came here with my family and have nothing but amazing things to say about it! From the colorful and unique decor that makes you feel like you're lost somewhere in California to Joe personally coming to your table to greet you- we had a fantastic time! The menu is well-loaded with everything from traditional breakfast to pancakes to French toast to crepes and even lunch options! The coffee was delicious and offered every 5-10 minutes as a refill. I will say our experience as locals who come in the slower season might be different than those coming in peak season - service has never been an issue for us. I was happy too see that they had almond milk for my latte. I, however, wasn't thrilled with my iced almond milk latte. It was watered down with completely melted ice and tasted like day old coffee. Java Joe's is definitely a unique place and Joe (aka Java Joe) is quite a character! He is an endless fountain of information not only on local lore and information but nationwide as well! We loved this place enough to come back a second time during our four day stay and let me tell you, the food is pretty amazing. We've been there three times in the last month or so but probably won't return. They have a very good selection of offerings, but the pattern is the same: Decent food but very slow and tense service. No matter who the waitress, the prevailing feeling is that she is oh-so-busy. Orders have been messed up with a suggestion that maybe we were the cause. Today was probably the last straw when my twenty-one year old daughter had dared to get up to leave but didn't remember to put on her Covid mask right away. She was literally putting it on in mid-step when a crotchety waitress (manager perhaps?) rudely reprimanded her while condescendingly waving her arms in the air. An unbelievably bad experience. On the way up north for a camping trip, we decided to treat ourselves to a meal at a restaurant before a week of camp cooking. Regrettably, we ended up here. We waited for over an hour for our food without anyone coming over to check on us or give us an update on the delay. We needed to get to our campsite by a certain time, but we weren't in a rush yet. Since nobody had come over to our table to check on us in an hour despite the fact that half the tables were empty, we stopped by the counter and politely asked for an estimate on when we could expect our food. I started explaining that we needed to get back on the road when an employee rudely cut me off mid sentence, telling me to "Relax, sweetheart" and to go back to my table without answering my question. When the food came well over half an hour later, it was terrible. Runny, partially cooked eggs, cold hash browns, salad dressing that was basically just corn syrup, flavorless, limp vegetables. Nothing was good. How did this take over one and a half hours to make? Terrible food and terrible service. Will not be back. read more

I can see where Joe might get a little pissy here and there... he seems like a no nonsense kinda man. He was kind to us, even though we briefly argued about covid. And when you walk into a coffee shop at 8 a.m. and the second question is, "coffee?", well, that's a man who knows how to run a business. The food was great and it's run by two very enthusiastic people who were leaving that afternoon for a cross-country road trip. We knew that not because they tried rushing people out (b/c they didn't) but b/c they were bragging about it and super excited to go. My wife tried to get 2 bagels to go on a Saturday. She was told no. No explanation, just no. A year ago we tried to get food from there- we went in a half an hour before closing and were refused. This little shack was right next to our hotel. I'll admit, I had my doubts. It's not too appealing from the outside and the parking lot is small. However, walking in, I was already sold. The place is covered in neon colors, a ton of random teapots, cookie jars, and other figurines, and pictures - pictures everywhere - of people eating whatever huge dessert seemed to be their "challenge." It's cute and cozy and you can tell whoever runs it really, really loves this place. We went for breakfast and because I'm boring, I went with your classic breakfast - scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast. I wish I would have picked something out of the ordinary, but I have a toddler, so I'll blame all quickly made decisions on him. Anyways, the breakfast was cooked perfectly and well, it's hard to mess up the basics. The bread here, however, is amazing. Have been there last week. We were breakfast hungry and hoped to eat asap:) Its beautiful inside, alot of funny decor and many pictures of happy customers with huge desert. I ordered granola banana pancakes and my husband ordered usual breakfast plus some pancakes. we wait more then hour..... we got tea pretty fast..so we kept drinking and waiting. Food was not bad but i expected different from pancakes,maybe i was tired to wait. But pancakes havent enough flavor i would say.Hubby was pretty happy with his food though. we didnt tried these huge desserts coz we re already late.
