We loved this place. It is wonderful and we can't wait to go back. Walking in, we were just blown away with the layout. Upscale but casual. We were greeted by friendly employees every step of the way. We had lunch, ordered pizzas, and they were delicious. They make their own meatballs.. so good.. Had no problem ordering food with the QR code on the table, but it wasn't real busy and employees also offered to take our orders. We liked the menu and found it impressive, more of a foodie experience. The better restaurants often have a smaller menu and everything is fresh and tasty. We noticed that, it was not dozens of choices but a few, and quality products. Salads, appetizers, sandwiches. Anyway, we came back for breakfast lol... worth it! Ohhh they have wonderful coffee too...... We were here during the last week of July. Anyway, we came back a third time.... for dinner and live music... on a friday night...... this time we had the beer experience too. That was fun! A new experience for us and we enjoyed it, a lot. This was my first trip to Salty Mac Brewing, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was intrigued by the pour your own beer system they have and always like to try some new beer. The hostess at the front desk was polite, friendly and carefully explained how their system worked. She left the front and came with me to show exactly how their system worked bracelets worked and how you get charged per once of beer, wine and hard seltzer. It was pretty simple, but made complete sense after her demonstration. She answered a few questions and took her time with me, later I noticed her doing the same with other customers. That was a great way to begin my tasting and meal. I decided to try three 5 oz. beers to see what they had and what I liked best. I had an Amber Lager, a Doppelbock and the Lake Huron IPA. All were good, especially the IPA and Doppelbock. Some of the 5 oz. Pours only came to a couple bucks, the beers are individually priced. The Lake Huron IPA was hoppy, crisp and had a good finish (maybe between malty and biscuit). I ordered the Brisket Smoked Corn Street Tacos. They came about ten minutes after I ordered with the hostess (they have a scan menu at the table, but I was told orders can be placed through the counter as well). The tacos were absolutely amazing, the brisket flavor was sweet and smoky, the street corn and lime drizzle was a perfect addition. The order comes with three tacos, which is a good amount...but they were so delicious that I was tempted to put in another order, I resisted and tabbed out after finishing my beer. My bill came to $30 for the 3 (5 oz beer samples), 1 tall pour of IPA and the Smoked Brisket Tacos. I feel that price was very fair for the quality of the beer, food and service. I will definitely come back again and would 100% recommend to beer lovers. read more

We stumbled onto this place as we were just walking the strip doing some shopping and we are so glad we did. The gentleman at the counter knew we were new so he took the time to explain the beer "self service" situation and how that the QR codes were on the table for both beer and food. It was great to just flash that bracelet and get the tasting of whatever beverage you wanted to try. I've heard about these before, but never tried it firsthand. I really think it was convenient to just try a little bit of this and a little bit of that - no wait for staff. We ordered some wings and pulled popper bread, both were delicious. We are excited to stop back again next Thursday and bring some friends along to share the experience with them as well. Thanks also to the guy working over in the coffee counter as he helped us with a to-go box and plasticware. We were real rookies, but we won't be next time. 4 - I'd drive 30 minutes out of my way just to come here. Skip to the end to see my rating scale. The three things I look for in a brewery are an inviting outdoor space, accessibility to some good food options, and (of course) some quality beers. Big bonus if a place is dog friendly. Salty Mac accomplishes all of these parameters. It's self-serve, so it's a little different in that regard, but someone was always handy to get you pointed in the right direction with how the taps work - and there are a lot to pick from! They have options for wine, seltzers, ciders, and about a dozen different varieties of beers. In my experience it's tough to have that many offerings and produce a brew that's fantastic and make me want to come back for the beer alone. So while none of the beers were fantastic, there are enough solid options that I found one I liked and happily ran through three within a short time. The flatbreads available were really nice. We had a crab rangoon and a white, both excellent. Lastly I need to point out their tipping policy. The owners decided to pay their staff a good competitive wage so that their income wasn't based on the number of customers through the door. For that reason, all the tips are donated to local charities which were listed on a card near the register. I absolutely love that approach and wish more places did it that way. Much respect for this! We came here on a Wednesday evening around 5:30 pm and sat on the outdoor patio out front with our dog. The staff/host did a really nice job explaining how the self-serve taps work with the wristband - you start a tab at the front counter, which is connected to a wristband, and you tap your wrist to the desired drink you want and self-pour. You are charged per ounce, usually between $0.50-75 per ounce but you don't really know your final drink tab until you close out at the end. There's beer, wine, cider, and seltzer - I tried a strawberry rhubarb cider and it was very tasty. Their food menu is by BC Pizza, which had me feeling a little disappointed once I noticed that, but the food was overall pretty good! We got the chicken wings with the Korean BBQ sauce on the side. The wings tasted like what you'd expect from a place like BC Pizza or another chain pizza place, and the sauce tasted from a jar, but they were overall tasty and a good portion size. We ordered 2 pizzas on GF crust ($4). I'm really happy they offer GF on most of their pizzas, and the crust was one of the best GF ones I've had! The only complain is we also ordered the white pizza with grilled chicken added, but they did not include the pesto, so they remade it, which was really nice of them, although just a small amount of pesto was on top. And, we felt like we waited pretty long for food but we weren't in a rush so it was fine. There seemed to be a lot of tables inside and it was not too loud. I think this is a great addition to St. Ignace and hope to see more like it! read more

Ambiance - very laidback brewery/pub feel, 4 tv monitors with sports and fun tv shows like (AFV and American Ninja, etc) Food - stuffed French toast was very yummy, gravy and biscuits were very good, 1 lb of bacon was good but a bit much. Self serve beer/cider - really cool concept....you pick the size glass you want (4oz, 8oz, or 12oz) then pick the cider/beer/seltzer you want, then swipe your bracelet to that machine and it pours it and charges you only for the amount you poured. We stopped by on our way up to the Soo and since it was 10:30 am we got breakfast food. Definitely plan to come back during lunch/dinner next time. read more

The self serve taps are so reasonably priced and a fun experience. I would definitely go back. The beverages were delicious. I stuck with the stout but my partner enjoyed the seltzer. We used qr codes to order and enjoyed a delicious dessert pizza. It's not overly sweet, but hit the spot. Service was stellar, and they even let us move once an outside table opened up. It was a beautiful night and very relaxing to sit outside, enjoy some beverages, and dessert. Highly recommend. It was also shockingly well priced for such a tourist area. read more

This is a fun brewery & coffee shop. I ordered biscuits & gravy with a side of sausage links. The biscuits were small & served on a metal tray that made them look even smaller. Everything tasted good and was served quickly. The bar is a tap style, you open a tab, get a card, & pour your own taps. The bar tender is very helpful & explains everything. You can choose from different style glassware or even a flight rack, which is a fun experience. We did not try the coffee bar but it looked very good with many options & baked goods. read more

Honestly I was less than impressed. I realize it's the Fall now but they had only one cider that was on tap and I had to ask instead of them letting me know. The jalapeño pull apart bread was SUPER salty on the bottom of the bread. The rest of it had good flavor but the salt over took it. The pizza was pretty good. I'm assuming we bus our own tables because no one came back to clean any of the trays or baskets at all. Or take empty glasses. Our table was full. We stumbled upon this place on a recent visit to St. Ignace, and we absolutely loved it. We ended up going back on our 2nd night. Their prices are very reasonable for pizza. The Rueben pizza was amazing - one I can see craving in the future. Basic pepperoni was good as well. Night two we got the meatball pizza and it was also fantastic. The draft wall was super fun. My husband wasn't going to have a drink, but after seeing the novelty, gave it a try and loved it. I liked the ciders and he enjoyed the #1 stout. The staff were all super helpful. Lots of different beers to try. It was nice that you could pour a little or a lot. They also had a coffee house inside the brewery in case you didn't want to drink. The service was great, everyone worked together. All of their tips go to local non profits which is a cool touch. It was very clean and nicely decorated. Self pour, pay by the oz, and with fantastic brew concoctions. Beers, ciders, and seltzer are available. They also have a coffee house on site, and I saw a few specialty coffees being made. Kudos to the owners and brewery master for a fantastic experience. Food is available via alliance with BC Pizza in town (along with a few special brewery only items available). Bonus (and somewhat of a rarity in this town) is the dog friendly outside patio area. Thank you for that! Located just a short distance walk from the marina and across the street from Arnold's ferry. This is a great brewery with a great concept where you can taste small or large samples of one of their many many beers or ciders. They have a small menu, which is nice to have nibbles while you have the beer. The pizza is not really a traditional authentic pizza, but it is nice to enjoy with the beer no matter. We had the Brussels sprout pizza and the olive pizza. I'd try one with a tomato sauce next time. Love the casual atmosphere and great friendly staff. EXCELLENT! MUST VISIT! They have everything - great atmosphere, wonderful beers (self-serve tap system), and good food selections. The self-serve taps make it really easy to try different beers without committing to an entire glass. Every beer I tried (6 different ones) were all superbly crafted. My favorites were the Belgian Tripel and the West Coast IPA. The IPA was nearly identical to my all-time favorite (Alpine Brewing - Duet). If you live anywhere close or are visiting St. Ignace - you MUST check out Salty Mac! Beer quality/selection = 10/10 Atmosphere = 10/10 Food = 9/10 I wish we lived closer. Awful from beginning to end. Walked in on a Friday night, and there were probably four other people in the quite large dining space there. No one greeted us at the door or said a word, so we found a table and sat down. Since they didn't come to our table, we finally figured out they had a menu with QR codes to order from and pay online. We ordered the Korean bbq pizza, and when it came, they dropped it at the table and left without saying a word. No waters, no service at all! I've never had an experience like this one where from the moment we walked in until the moment we left, not one word was spoken to us by any employee of the restaurant. So given that they seem to want to have as little actual verbal exchanges with customers, I'm guessing if they continue like this, they may not survive. I would also note that the lighting is very harsh, in case the owners read this. May want to turn down the LEDs to create a more inviting atmosphere. But again, it didn't seem like they were trying to keep people happy, anyway. read more

Ate dinner here with two kids on a Saturday night with live music and it was a bit empty, which is a shame because the food was great, the staff was friendly, the beer options were widely varied and interesting and the music was great.
