And only to have the person slam the ice machine lid because I corrected them when they started to make my drink hot and not iced. But continued to still hand me my mocha with less than half the milk a 20oz latte should have. That was my last visit ever. read more

Me and my wife were looking for a morning cup of coffee and came across this place on Yelp. I have passed by this place a few times and it never really crossed my mind to bookmark it to return but today was the day! Best way to explain this place is an awesome dive coffee shop, (is there such a thing!?) They have a great food menu with daily specials and the prices are great. I paid around 10 bucks for my breakfast enchiladas and my wife's meal was about 8 dollars for an omlette. I have been going to Java Joe's for ages, never have I had a bad experience until last week when I was denied service for allegations that I stole a lotion sample. I assumed it was a case of mistaken identity since I have not taken anything from Java Joe's ,so I reached out to the owner on several platforms and telephone messages asking for the opportunity to discuss the accusations. At no point were any of my messages answered. I was humiliated and upset and as the days go by without an answer, I'm more and more angry. I was given no benefit of the doubt and no opportunity to clear up the misunderstanding. It is unlikely that I will ever try to return or recommend Java Joe's to anyone given the treatment I have received after patronizing the establishment for probably 17 years. read more

A great little spot in a great little town in a great little state! Java Joe's gives you all the Java you can drink for only $2.50, and a nice ambience for working, dining, chatting, etc for free! I ordered the tofu burrito with green Chile (I was delightfully surprised by the presence of tofu in their menu). It was excellent! My wife picked us up some brunch this morning and we were very disappointed with the food. I ordered the Southwest Chicken wrap and it was soggy and bland. No flavor whatsoever! I literally opened my to-go box and the whole bottom was floating in water from the vegetables in my wrap! My wife ordered the veggie omelet and it was flavorless as well with burnt hash browns. I would not recommend getting take-out here, I feel like I wasted my money. Walking in , the restaurant was a mess. We went up to order I got the black bean burrito with green Chile and a hot chocolate and my sister got the breakfast burrito w green Chile. We looked for a table and their was no clean tables. We ended up wiping down our own table. We sat down and it took about 20 min for the food to come out. The hot chocolate was watered down by the milk and the black bean burrito was actually pretty good. On the other hand the breakfast burrito was absolutely atrocious. My sister describes it as "eating someone's ass" (meaning it was very gross) the egg to potato ratio was very off. The eggs where unseasoned and mushy and the potatoes where very burnt. I'd say I'm picky about breakfast burritos especially served with green Chile but not sprinkled on top. This breakfast burrito was smother with green Chile sauce and so good. Java Joes feels like a local coffee eat shop you could find in a nice small country village. Nestled just west of downtown, but still within walking distance. The coffee is good, the biscottis are good. Nice space between tables to be really comfortable. Quite honestly, the only thing keeping this coffee shop from achieving the "Gold/5 Star ultimate standard is the music. It's too loud 80's-90's bubble gum music for a coffee shop. I love grabbing a cuppa n some treats from Java Joe's at the downtown growers market, but this was my first visit to their place on 9th & Park Avenue. A trio was jammin', the place was packed, I ordered the green chile veggie omelet and a Nutty Irish it was so darn tasty, look at those veggies bursting out of the middle! And the nutty irish...perfecto As busy as it was, there was no lag in service whatsoever. The pastries looked fantastic, my 5 year old indulged in two chocolate covered oreos (he gave them a thumbs up). The special of the day was Migas, I definitely want to try that next go around. Lastly, loved the atmosphere, this kind of reminded me of the Fred's Bagels days, just really good energy happening there...and the music trio even played La Bamba...La Bamba on the harp, what's not to love! I stopped in here on my quick DIY tour of breaking bad while in Albuquerque. I had planned to stay longer in Albuquerque but Mother Nature had other plans. Java Joe's was Tuco HQ in Breakin Bad. I took a few quick pictures before we headed inside for a coffee. My husband and I both ordered a coffee to go. All coffees brewed here are medium roast. We filled up our coffees and while doing so we spotted some of their food. It looked really good but we had other lunch plans. The coffee by the way was amazing!! The Bourbon Pecan drip coffee was so delicious. I created a concoction I dubbed "Honey Pecan a la Ivan" which was 80% bourban pecan coffee, about 2 tsp of brown sugar, 1 Tbsp of honey, some cinnamon mixed in, and finally 20% milk. We had the tofu burrito (gigantic and loaded with lots of flavor with seasoned tofu and fajita style veggies-- spicy, so skip the Chile sauce if that's not your thing), PB&J bagel (large and tasty), 3 egg omelette with avocado (perfectly cooked), fruit plate (pears, kiwi, plum, watermelon, oranges! served with yogurt), coffee, and chai tea latte. We visited on a Sunday morning. It was busy, but there was no line and plenty of seating inside and out. They were accommodating with almond milk, and even offered a to-go cup for an extra refill for the road. Brunch here was more like a place you'd find 10 years ago-- welcoming, big portions, great customer service, and a staff ready to help. I had a question about the menu and the woman at the register was clearly annoyed that she had to tell me a few ingredients. They roast it fresh almost every morning. This place screams "granola." I take one star off because though this is a place I'd love to hang out at all day long, they are only open until 3:30 p.m. Downtown needs a good alternative coffeehouse that's open later, and Java Joe's would be the perfect place. A side note about their Yogurt Parfait. As the name indicates, comes in a parfait glass, which is a popular trend throughout the region. This was a very trendy little spot and it was really cool that they had live music playing mid-afternoon on a Saturday. I had their special- carne adovada plate with corn tortillas, 2 eggs, and black beans. Our food came out of the kitchen quickly and it was gooood! I like my eggs over easy and they were perfect. There was two baristas and one chef and they were certainly hustling for the morning! I was impressed with the variety of choices for breakfast, lunch, coffee and teas! I ordered the chicken cordon bleu (per rec from the barrista) . It was interesting, I wasn't sure how I would feel about the pineapple but it was pretty tasty. The bread was flaky/crunchy/and fresh I just felt like it was missing a little bit a salt to enhance the flavors. The salad was a good balance for the savory sandwich but they also offer other sides of greens isn't what you're in the mood for. I was honestly too busy inhaling my sandwich I didn't have time to try the southwestern eggs Benedict but my friend throughly enjoyed her meal and said the Chile was the perfect spice level. There wasn't a single scrap left! I also tried the cranberry tea cooler which was very refreshing. I will be going back to get caffeinated and to try one of their lattes. A good little neighborhood coffee and cafe joint. They have a very good, very big breakfast burrito, and a tasty assortment of various crepes. Every Saturday morning during the Downtown Farmer's market season, they set up across the street from their place in the park, making the crepes on hot plates right in front of you. The coffee doesn't seem particularly special to me, but I'm not a big coffee drinker. I like the quaint little atmosphere. One time I happened upon a singer-songwriter performing. Still not the cozy coffeeshop feel I most prefer with couches and lounging areas and warmer lighting, but closer to it than all the other too-modern, too bright coffeeshops that keep opening up throughout Albuquerque. My biggest complaint about this place- the hours are too limited. They close so early, so I've only gone a few times. read more
