This is my favorite coffee place on earth. Why? When you walk in, you're overcome by the smell of the fresh beans. Not in a bad way, of course. On a nice day, when they keep the door open, you can smell it from the corner. Now, when YOU walk in, you'll be greeted by a very genuine hello. It's different with every person in the shop. One may be warm and cheerful, one might be a simple "hey," but none are a scripted line or forced auto-response. If you're nice, they're nice. If you're rude, they're rude. It took me a while to realize this, as I was quiet and they were quiet, and now, when I walk in, they know my name and my order and have a nice conversation if it isn't busy. The selection is out of this world. I don't really make coffee at home, but when I'm having people over I go buy a half pound of a seasonal blend, and everyone loves it! What I do buy a ton of is their bulk teas. They're amazing. And the selection of bagged teas is great, too. I'm also surprised that no one has really mentioned the imported candy and treats. I made a fabulous Easter basket centerpiece from their British chocolates this year, and my New Years guests enjoyed gourmet chocolate-filled candy canes at the fireworks! The espresso is my favorite. They use an Italian roast that is not too harsh. I've never added sugar to any of their drinks, because the flavor of the coffee/espresso is so good! I remember having to go to work early one morning, and they weren't open yet... I went to another shop nearby , got an espresso (French Roast), gagged, and tossed it. Like Veronica mentioned, they have a credit card minimum, but can charge you for 10 cups up front and keep tab for you. (And they also give you a free one!) I keep a running tab for espresso. It's super quick and easy, and saves me from having 50 charges a month for coffee. One recent addition is that they now have sidewalk seating! You can sit outside and people-watch one of the busiest corners in the neighborhood! read more

I stopped in today for a pumpkin spice latte, it was honestly the worst drink I've ever tasted :( I enjoy everything pumpkin flavored and try to find new spots that serve PSL - but this one was way too sugary and all the flavors made me feel sick. Definitely a waste of $5+ (for a small!!) especially since I took a few sips and threw it out. Very bummed. Looks like they have lots of good reviews for other drinks, but DON'T get the pumpkin spice latte! read more

It's easy to miss this place, as it's off 7th Ave... but don't. Though it's a very small place, it has a wide variety of coffee's and tea's. I admit, I haven't tried every single tea or coffee, but what I have gotten, I loved!! If it's in stock, I highly suggest the Indian Spice Chai tea. read more

So I had half my iced coffee then threw it out. Three stars for an adorable store that sells more than coffee and lattes. The thing I love about Java Joe's is that they don't try to sell you what you don't want. When I went to buy a french press, the owner guided me to the glass ones because the indestructible ones are more expensive and more difficult to clean. They have a wide selection of both coffee and loose leaf tea, which is great. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but it's worth a visit for any caffeine addict. Try the Deadhead Blend for a dark brew with no bitter aftertaste, or the Pumpkin Spice for a great fall coffee. read more

I walk past at least seven other coffee shops on my way to work, but I actually go out of my way to go to this one. The pumpkin spice coffee is amazing - I would choose Java Joe's over Starbucks any day. A cup of coffee that is reasonably priced AND delicious? You can't pass this place up. I adore this place. Definitely my go-to place for coffee in this neighborhood. It's a small place with a ton of coffees (tea too, but that's not really my thing). Staffed by a bunch of interesting people who are helpful with picking out beans. I love the dark star and have been using it to make cold brew iced coffee at home. The only downside is that they aren't open early in the morning (not till 10 i think), but according to a sign on the door, they will be starting in september! read more

Besides all the other good points mentioned by others, I just want to say that they have the best decaf coffee around. We use both caf and decaf, and although good caffeinated coffee is not hard to find, that is not the case with decaf. Great local business. read more

Cute little shop right off the F train / 7th Ave stop. Not my favorite iced soy latte (3 shots of espresso!) I've ever had but I have to admit I'm not a knowledgable coffee person, just like my iced soy latte drinks once in a while and this one was very strong (probably a good thing for most people?!) I literally start every morning with a pot of Dark Star -- by far the best French-style roast I've ever had. Thunder Road makes a dynamite espresso. I hate to shop, but this is the store I always stop in. I'm in Java Joe's at least once a day. My favorite coffee shop in the world, by far. The Jumpin' Joe made with Dark Star is what keeps me alive. The staff is charming and really know their regulars, and they make your drink exactly the way you like it, down to the last detail. And if you want beans to take home, they have a huge variety of amazing roasts from which to choose. They also have lots of British candies and good stuff for gifts. read more
