If you are ever in Medford: you MUST go here. Friendly service and great burgers. But what I really love about the burgers is that there are SO MANY options. Even Portland does not a offer a burger joint anything like this. Ever had a Himalayan Antelope burger? I didn't think so. Seriously, the amount of meats and number of off-the-wall ingredients here is staggering. I don't know what Portland has against non-beef-chicken-pork-fish-shellfish meats, but they are quite hard to find in a place that considers itself a diverse food mecca. I was in Medford for work, for a couple months, I had almost every type of meat they offer. All were excellent. Not a big burger girl, but due to the reviews, I had to try it for myself. Hands down, the BEST burger I've ever had. I wanted to order something different than the norm...so I ordered the Bushranger (Wild Camel from the Australian Outback, BBQ-steak sauce, onion rings, crispy bacon, garlic aioli and cheddar) Nothing short of amazing! I have yet to have something from here that I did not thoroughly enjoy. Though personally I feel I should give them one star so you guys don't go taken up all the seats. This place can get packed around normal meal times, especially Saturday and Sunday, so expect to share a table if its only one or two of you. We stumbled upon Jaspers Cafe about two years ago while on our way home from Oregon back to California. My husband and I were tired and cranky, and I was starving. I begged him to stop here so we could eat, and after a small argument (he wanted to keep driving), he reluctantly stopped. We got two burgers to go and hopped back on the road. As soon as we bit into our burgers, my husband couldn't stop raving about how amazing they were. Since then, we've talked about Jaspers Cafe every so often and about how badly we wished it was closer. Last year we took 101 all the way home, and we were pretty bummed we missed out on Jaspers. We didn't make that mistake this time! I told my husband we needed to leave at 7am so we could make it by the time they opened. We skipped breakfast AND coffee (crazy, I know) and were on our way. We drove all the way to Medford and made it 5 minutes early. The owner met us outside and was super friendly! Our waitress was so energetic and accommodating. Our burgers were as phenomenal as we remembered; that's a huge compliment coming from me since I don't normally eat burgers (ground beef gives me the creeps). I got the Popper Burger, my husband got the Hawaiian Cowboy Burger, and we shared a large fry. The popper burger had SO much flavor and the fries were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. My husband practically inhaled his food and needless to say we were in much better spirits after our long anticipated meal at Jaspers Cafe. Faced discrimination and terrible service, food, and hygiene at this restaurant. I DO NOT recommend it. We were asked to leave upon receiving our food because "they were closing." Yet, there were other people sitting down who ordered after us and were not asked to leave in the same humiliating way. When we went into the bathroom, there was no soap. When asked for more soap, they said they were out and only offered hand sanitizer. Upon leaving the restroom, I heard the main cook say they were out of all ingredients and that the staff wanted to leave. Upon receiving our food, it seemed reheated and was low quality. What a find! We just pulled off the freeway and found a highly rated burger joint on yelp. I had the blue grit burger. It featured mushrooms cooked in steak sauce as well as blue cheese and crispy onion strings. These were unique toppings that complimented but did not overshadow a juicy and flavorful burger patty. I think we may have ordered the wrong thing?? We didnt have the same experience as the other reviewers. We ordered: Popper burger: the jalapeno poppers tasted odd on the burger. The cream cheese was very overwhelming. Couldnt really taste much else. Fresh fries: Just alright. Not really seasoned and pretty greasy. Hotel California burger: was supposed to have avacado, arugala and goat cheese. Had a weird Asian sauce on it? (Like teriyaki mixed with soy?) The sauce mixed with the goat cheese was awful. Garden salad: very good! Fresh vegetables and tasty blue cheese dressing. Oreo shake: bomb. I would come back just for the shake. Service: Our waitress seemed really lost? She kept having to ask questions everytime we asked her something. She didnt really check on us....we kept having to stop someone else. The building is very small so you assume it is easy for your waitress to check on you a few times. She also had no idea about any of the beers or wines being served. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing? This place has the elements of a cool little burger joint. I ordered the jiffy burger with sweet potato fries and came with a refillable fountain soda. The burger was an irregular shape, indicating hand fashioned, real meat, not a processed patty. Included within is real bacon (2) and peanut butter on two fluffy buns. Yup, peanut butter. It works. Although skeptical at first, it made for an interesting flavor combo. Usually I'm a fry guy, but the burger won out as incredibly satisfying. It's like a step back into the 70's. Bench style seating inside and out. If it gets cold outside, you can request blankets. Minus 1 star for "forgetting" to give me the happy hour pricing. I could tell by the server's reaction of surprise that I caught it, not that she failed to apply the rate. I still tipped 20% for the good food and attentive service. Our area's favorite gourmet burger place. This time I ordered the Garlic Blue Outlaw with bleu cheese, grilled onions, garlic aioli, lettuce & tomato. It was sooo good! I heard a nearby customer complain that there was too much bleu cheese in his burger and I thought, there should be more cheese in mine. This may look like a little burger place, but it's a very awesome place to stop after a long drive from Portland. As soon as we pulled in, I can see someone waiting for us with menus on hand and all. They asked if we prefer indoor or outdoor sitting, but no one can sit outside on a 95 degree weather. So we chose inside sitting, with only a few tables that seat 4, we managed to seat 5 of us. Menu is kinda long, the have a list of burgers, sandwiches and shakes, I recommend looking at yelp pics, portions are pretty big. Ingredients are really fresh, we also ordered a large side order of fries, and that was more than enough for 5. I love how the servers are very happy. Whent to this place at 5:30 on a Sunday, the sign said it was open until 6. The open sign had been shut off already. Stood there with my family a minute while the waitress walked past us several times she never said hi or asked if we wanted a table. We seated ourselves and weren't helped until we went and got our own menus. The first thing she said to us was "We are shutting off the grill soon so we are going to need to order" we ordered quickly because she seemed to be annoyed. She brought us our frys with no plates, napkins, or ketchup. She was annoyed again when we had to interrupt her conversation with her friends about lawyers, to ask for ketchup then brings a handful of ketchup packets(still no plates or napkins to put the ketchup on.) We asked for drinks and she was again really inconvenienced by us interrupting her friend time. This was just a rude experience. At 5:45 she started putting up chairs around us and brought us our check after our first bite of our actual burger. Food was great as usual, and service is usually good. The owner greeted us and found us a table in the crowded little place. There are more tables outside than inside. It's popular with locals and travelers make a point to stop in as well. I had a kangaroo burger with gouda and bacon with a side of their "trail sauce." It was a very good burger. You can customize your burger if you ask. The trail sauce is a sweet whiskey barbecue sauce. I recommend it. We ordered a side of sweet potato fries which were pretty good, but made from frozen potatoes, as are their normal french fries. After a conversation with the owner about it, he brought some of their "fresh cut fries." They don't advertise them, but if you ask especially for fresh cut fries they'll slice a potato and fry them on the spot for you. Excellent. It's destined for a larger, nicer building where it can serve new and more customers. It's won Best Burger in the region for many consecutive years and likely will continue to do so. Unlike places like Five Guys and In N Out, which are coming to Medford, Jaspers doesn't just have simple, small hamburger patties. They specialize in quality hand-padded burgers, with fresh ingredients and offer dozens of concoctions that aren't normal at standard burger joints. You'll find unique cream cheeses, toppings, dressings, cheeses and more slapped onto the top of burgers. Ordering just a cheeseburger is boring here. Try something with Fritos, creamy goat cheese, raspberry balsamic, or a mix of the trio. You're pallet will be introduced to combinations of flavors it's not accustomed to. Jaspers impresses by offering more than standard veggie, turkey and hamburgers. On the menu shine elk, buffalo, venison, boar and other meats that bring more flavor and something unique. This place is designed for greater things and fame, and many locals have obviously figured this out as lines and lunch and dinner remain the norm. The new owner has done special things with Jaspers. When you meet him, don't be afraid to congratulate him. We need more local spots like these. On a side note, if you've been to the Dallas area, think Twisted Root. The cafe itself is small in size but their waiting area outside has benches and under the shade. You can either choose to dine inside or outside. We chose to eat outside. Service: Prompt service, nice staff. Food: Their onion rings is one of the best Ive had. Its thick cuts, fresh and well seasoned. Their famous for their BURGERS, of course, so we had to try it.
