Beautiful and delicious works of art is the best way I can describe Dream it Cupcakes! I was…read moreplanning a 60th surprise party for my mom and found this place just randomly by searching online for cupcakes in the Modesto area. Let me first say I live in the Bay Area where high end cupcake boutiques are abundant and I work in the sweets and confections industry so not to sound snobby but I have very high expectations for my desserts. Since the party was going to be in Modesto I wanted to find a local baker for the cupcakes. I first visited their website and everything looked lovely they make cupcakes, cakes and cookies so I decided to give them a try. Within a day I got a response from the owner Lauren. I told her I wanted to do a "Dutch" theme for the cupcakes and cookies- think tulips and windmills. Lauren said she could do that, I sent her just a few inspirational pictures I found online and that was that. A couple weeks later it's party day and I'm not really sure what to expect but given what I saw from the website I was confident these would turn out great. Lauren promptly arrived at the party venue with the delivery (about 80 cupcakes and 80 cookies) and I was beyond impressed! Her creations were beyond my expectations! I will post the picture so prospective customers can see how incredible they look. The tulips on the cupcakes were perfect and the windmill cookies were spot on, I can't believe she was able to do such a specific intricate request. In addition to how beautiful they were they tasted just as amazing! The cupcake frosting was mouthwatering and the cake was the perfect texture (she can do pretty much any flavor you want). The cookies were equally incredible. I can tell she must use premium products but without the premium price which is awesome. Everyone at the party was loving them all asking where I got them. I told everyone about Lauren from Dream it Cupcakes so I hope she gets some new customers because she is a pro! Thank you so much again Lauren you helped to make the day perfect!

I ordered a custom heart shaped cake and was very clear about what I wanted: whipped cream frosting…read moreon the outside and chocolate ganache filling with caramel and pecans on the inside. I even told them I don't like buttercream because it's too sweet and that I didn't want it anywhere on this cake. When I placed the order, they asked if they could add a little buttercream to the outside for texture. I said okay, but only a tiny bit mixed with the whipped cream. What showed up was all buttercream on the outside with zero whipped cream. When I asked about it, they told me it was whipped cream. I know what I'm tasting, and so did my guests. It was definitely buttercream. The inside was even worse. There was some ganache but barely any. The further we cut into the cake, the more buttercream we found. I did not want buttercream inside the cake at all. I barely agreed to a little on the outside and they didn't even respect that. The photos show it clearly. The further we cut, the messier and more uneven it got with just buttercream and buttercream. One slice had a thin layer of ganache with barely any pecans or caramel. Everything else was buttercream. I picked this bakery because I had a good experience with them the first time. The design looked nice, but the cake itself was really disappointing. Way too sweet from all that buttercream I specifically said I didn't want. I gave them detailed feedback with photos. Instead of owning up to it, the decorator got defensive. He said he used buttercream as glue to hold the cake together. But that doesn't make sense. If ganache worked fine as glue on my first order with them (which had no buttercream inside at all), why couldn't he do the same thing this time? He just chose to use a lot of buttercream instead of actually following what I asked for. I even sent more photos pointing out exactly where the problem was. But they still insisted it was whipped cream. My guests noticed it too. So are they lying? Management offered me a 10% discount on my next order. That doesn't help. I paid for a cake that didn't meet what I asked for and it ruined my event. I asked for a 50% refund which seemed fair. They read the message but never answered. Just complete silence. If a bakery is going to charge premium prices for custom cakes, you need to actually follow what the customer asks for. I was crystal clear about what I wanted. That's literally the whole point of a custom order. They like to ignore customers when there's an issue. I was ignored at first, then only responded after I pointed out how unprofessional they were handling things. That's when they offered the 10% discount. But the moment I asked for a fair 50% refund, they ghosted me completely. No response, nothing. That says everything you need to know about how they treat customers who have legitimate concerns.

The glass case filled with cupcakes is especially fun to look at and stare in wonder. The only problem is which one to pick? You might have to choose more than one. All the flavors look so good. I got the lemon drop because I love everything lemon and it didn't disappoint. The cupcake itself was so moist and soft, a real delite to eat. The frosting wasn't too sweet and over powering. It was a perfect complement to the cupcake. I can't wait to go back and try all the other flavors. Tbh probably the best cupcake I ever had. They have more than just cupcakes. The have 4 inch or 6 inch small cakes which I would love to try also. The have some cookies and cookie pops. They even have a cookie for your puppy. They have milk shakes, smoothies and decadent coffee. The even have a few sandwiches and ice cream flavors. Really fun place to treat yourself and others and especially fun for the kid's. I believe they have a drive thru as well but don't quote me I didn't pay close attention at the time. I was distracted by all the cupcakes and their splendor haha. Make yourself happy and go try them out.

Next, they really take the time to offer a wide variety of sweets and drinks. I love that they offer BOGO day old cupcakes. That gives people a chance to try a few flavors without breaking the bank. These are probably only available early until they are all gone. So many flavors. Apple, pumpkin, chocolate, lemon... Can't forget to mention that they care about customers. Ask if you have been here before, what you like. Maybe sample some ice cream? I'll be back post haste!

We stopped in for the first time today. I had no idea what to expect, but was slightly underwhelmed…read moreby the amount of options compared to other shops in the area. There were limited quantities of each so I'm not sure if they have more things on the weekends, which would totally make sense for a local small business on a random Tuesday. Parking is easy once you find it and although the inside is very small there are a few chairs and cafe tables perfect for a duo. Nonetheless, we left with a good haul and got one of almost everything: Red velvet slice, Carrot cake slice, Chocolate Mousse slice, Chocolate brownie, and Lemon bar. They also had a sheet cake, a small pack of cupcakes and cake pops in a separate case, so I wasn't sure if those were preorders or display or available for purchase. Here's what I loved: THE BROWNIE. One of the best I've ever had! The lemon bar was also delicious, super tart and perfectly baked. I'd get either of those again! Customer service was very friendly, prices were clearly displayed and fair, and the portions were good sizes. Here's what I just liked: The cake part of the red velvet, mousse, and carrot cake was a bit dry. They were beautifully decorated, the frosting and fillings were great, but the cake itself just wasn't as soft and moist as I was hoping. Another Yelper mentioned sticking the cake in the microwave and I wish I would have tried that. Definitely a small business worth supporting!

Upon entering, I was struck by three things, how friendly the worker was, how hard the door was to open (I do have mobility issues on occasion), and how little there was on display to choose from. Still, I found a couple of nice items (red velvet and some serious chocolate cake) my wife loved the chocolate but we found the red velvet to be quite dry and hard. I suspect that it had been in the case far too long. Fortunately the chocolate was so good, my wife said that it more than made up for it. Overall, the ambiance was simple bakery, nice folks, serving well. I suspect where these nice folks shine is in pre-orders (which makes TOTAL sense, as foot traffic, particularly in this bakery's location would be a tough sell indeed). I suspect that we will be keeping Dessert European Cakes and Pastries in mind for our upcoming bakery needs.
