This store is very cool, but I can agree with Mariana M. The Latina that works there does not like Latinos. She is super rude with how she grabs your things and looks like she almost wants to break them as she rings them up. I haven't gone back since nor will I. If you're not white you will not get good service, (be aware). All I said to her was hello as I got to the counter, no greeting back. This was last October '24 and I don't miss going into that store. I've been shopping at Edward Cake Supply for a while now due to my cake business. While the store carries many items I need, I've had several disappointing experiences that I can no longer ignore. There's a Latina employee who has consistently treated me with rudeness during multiple visits. At first, I gave her the benefit of the doubt assuming it was just a bad day. But after it happening every single time I come in, it no longer feels like a coincidence. What's been especially hurtful is seeing her treat other (white) customers with warmth and friendliness, only to become cold and dismissive when it's my turn. As a fellow brown person, it's incredibly disheartening to feel like I'm being discriminated against for my skin tone by someone from my own community. I didn't want to believe it at first, but after so many visits with the same treatment, I feel compelled to say something. I hope the management becomes aware and addresses this, because customers should be treated with respect regardless of who they are. read more

It was my first time coming here to grab some Stuff for a family member was helped by Elisa at the cash register she was plain rude & disrespectful for no reason. Was being one worded & rude responses. Family member even mentioned her being this way always, I don't understand why have Elisa Working for your business If she acts like she doesn't want to be there and hates her job. I love this place. It is seriously one of a kind. I drive over an hour to visit when I need a bunch of cake supplies. They have everything in here. It is a candy store for any cakers out there. I saw that they do classes here as well. The have anything you need to make candies and other treats as well. I love the chocolate curls here as well as the fillings they are great! I have never come in here and said I have all these sprinkles. They have such a cute variety of sprinkles here. Highly recommend giving this place a visit. read more

I love this store! Every time I go here, I feel like a kid in a candy store-that also sells toys and has puppies to play with. They have pretty much everything you need, and if for some reason they don't have it on hand, they'll get it for you. Plus they have lots of fun classes to help you learn how to decorate cakes, cookies, cupcakes etc... I recently enrolled in the Wilton Decorating Basics class at Edwards. I've had two classes so far and I am loving every minute of it. My instructor Alta is the best. She is so patient with all of us (especially me) and is such an inspiration. She has been decorating cakes since the early '70's! My newest Yelp pic is of the cake I made in the second class. Cute and tasty! Upon registering, I was given a list of materials to purchase. I had so much fun shopping for all of my materials! Who knew there were so many items involved in cake decorating? Now I am the proud owner of a cake leveler, cake lifter, numerous couplers, tips, a tool caddy, turntable and many other goodies. The staff at Edwards are always so smiley and helpful. I really appreciate the time they have given a newbie like me. I've learned so much just from shopping here. I've now got a bunch of great ideas for future baking projects, which I won't share because then it won't be my idea any more. ;) read more

I shop here all of the time! Like, for years and years I've shopped here for cake and candy making supplies. Problem I have is they're not terribly friendly or helpful. Often they have a box to hold candies, but not an insert to put candies in. Same thing with everything else, it's all kinda hit or miss. I still go here first for everything I need, I just figure after being a customer for years people would know me better or be nicer... but the supply isn't consistent for me. Recently went for tiny sugar molded inserts for panoramic Easter eggs, and half the things I wanted were out of stock. Frustrating!! read more

I bought icing that the store had made for iced cut-out cookies. The left-over icing I stored in an airtight container and placed in the fridge. One week later I used that frosting to ice cookies for my niece's birthday and it was perfect! Great consistancy, still glossy and held its shape! Will definetly buy their icing again.... it's better than anything I can make. read more

It is a second generation, mom and pop , business (pretty cool ) . It's amazing to have in Modesto . I've heard many people travel to come to shop here for their baking and candy making needs . My sister reserved her daughter's birthday party there. We decorated cupcakes and it was such a fun and cute party. We had a photo booth station set up. Brought snacks and drinks. The theme was American Girls and they had 5 different cupcakes we each decorated together: a pink poodle, Eiffel Tower, cat, dress and high heel shoe. There were two people assisting us step by step on what to do. They even cleaned up too. Everyone had a lot of fun, even the adults. My sister said it was a little pricey. She also paid one of the ladies there to do a small cake which looked really cute too. read more

Oh, Edwards, how I love thee! Stopped by here recently "just to check things out" and ended up finding the two CUTEST cookie cutters I have ever seen in my life: a mini tea cup (about the size of a half-dollar) and a mini pair of rayban wayfarer-looking sunglasses! They had a ton more mini cookie cutters to choose from...and really, who doesn't think mini things are out of control cute? Also, and this deserves an additional SIXTH star, they have a very clean customer restroom! Yay. read more

This review is only for their cake stand rentals. 2 months before I got married I came here to inquire about renting a cake stand. The stand itself wasn't very expensive to rent, but the deposit was outrageous! In order to rent the cake stand, I was required to give a deposit of over $200. Most of the deposit had to be paid with cash. The remained of the deposit could be paid with a check (they wouldn't accept credit cards). The sales lady explained that upon the return of the undamaged cake stand, we would get our deposit back. I ended up *buying* at 19" cake stand from Save On Crafts for under $90. Much cheaper than renting from here AND I got to keep it. read more

I have been going to Edwards for over 7 years and they always had exactly what I needed to get the job done! I currently live in san diego and I have a last minute graduation party to make cupcakes for. Not attending but providing the sweets! Stupid covid! Hehe I looked for hours online at so many sites to print edible photos for cupcakes.. everything delivers 5 days after i needed it! I lost hope than edwards came to my head! I called them and explained the rush and they made it happen in less than 24 hrs!!! I had my best friend pick up the edible print out and fedex to me and they look amazing!! Way better than what I was going to order online. They made the photo fit perfectly! Since day one your team always goes above and beyond for your customers and living 8 hrs away i still love your store and millie made it happen for me and did it so quickly !!!!!! Edward's variety of cake essentials and accessories, doesn't make up for their horrible customer service. I went in today to buy some cupcake paper cups. When I went to the counter to pay there was only one lady in front of me, when she had been rung up and walked away, I went up to the counter and put my purse down to get ready to pay. The woman working at the register looked right at me, turned around, and said to a lady on the other side of the counter, " Oh, are you ready now?" Instead of saying to me, "I'll be right with you this lady is next," the cashier said nothing. In fact, she completely didn't acknowledge my presence at that point. I moved out of the way for the lady and waited while they chitchatted. When it was my turn I didn't even get a, "Thank you for waiting." Nothing, zip, zilch, zero. I don't know if I was treated like this because my purchase was only a few dollars and the other ladie's was $97, but what ever reason this woman had for her rudeness she sure made me feel unimportant as a customer, and even invisible. Oh, and since my purchase was under $5 and I paid with a debit card I was charged 25 cents. I've never been to another business that does that! When the lady notified me of this, she said, "I know, it feels like a punishment, doesn't it?" NO what felt like a punishment was the way she treated me. I will NEVER go to Edward's again. read more

Edward's irritates me......and I'll tell you why. I have spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars in this place (purely out of necessity) and yet when I asked to buy a product in bulk, that they sell for 5X the cost (hoping for the tiniest bit of discount since she usually sells this in 8 oz containers and I wanted to buy 5 lb) the owner GRUDGINGLY agreed to shave off a dollar or two. Not per pound but off the total. Give me a break.......I was pissed. And I told her don't bother. I have found out their suppliers for most of their items if you want to buy in bulk, everything from Uline to Lucks. Their mark-up is incredible. But besides Michaels, they are literally the ONLY cake decorating supply store in town..... They charge $2.25 for a clear cupcake container that anyone can walk into a grocery store bakery and pay .65 for. I realize they are open to make a profit but WOWZA, do they ever!! For years this was known as having the rudest customer service around but awhile back, someone must have figured out that people talk and the talk wasn't good.....their attitude improved slightly. However, thanks to them I got into the HUGEST fight with my husband all because the damn clerk didn't use any common sense and opened her damn mouth (I am still pissed, can you tell??) I needed a specific color and called down to have it pulled so my husband could swing by and pick it up. The lady joked that I didn't trust him to pick it out, and I joked back, then said "don't tell him, of course". When my husband walked in and asked for the color, the young girl with shortish hair behind the counter laughed hysterically and said "Oh yeah, your wife called and said you would be walking around in circles like a lost puppy dog if we hadn't gotten this for you." He was livid. And I didn't even say that. And even if those words had come out of my mouth, why in the name of all that is HOLY would that dingbat tell him? Idiots....... then, it turns out THEY pulled the wrong color (I asked for electric pink, not orange) and he took it back (unopened - still sealed) maybe 15 minutes later and the same girl refused to give him a refund or credit. IDIOTS!!!!! I hate Edwards...some of the staff is really great, there is a woman named Tammy who I ADORE and another older lady with curly gray hair, she is also sweet and helpful. The owner is a curmudgeon, however, and the young chick behind the counter should be muzzled. read more

After visiting Edwards for baking supplies, my daughters and I were very disappointed by the shops unfriendly atmosphere. While I understand that not every business is staffed with warm and friendly staff, I was taken back by the curt demeanor of one of their staff when attempting to pay for our items. Not only did it happen once, but twice during our visit (as we had 2 separate purchases). No greeting, no eye contact, no thank you. Although finding supplies locally can be a challenge, I would recommend online merchants before patronizing Edwards in the future. Edwards is not customer friendly and would benefit from some customer service training techniques. We definitely won't return. Just another note: This review wasn't influenced by the previous reviews about customer service. Not coincidental.....customer service is anything but a priority or strength for Edwards! read more

You ask a question and they not only answer it they take you right to the part of the shop where the item you want is located and then they make sure that you are buying the right thing. Other than that, the women working there must really hate their lives, their business, their jobs and their customers. There's zero enthusiasm from them when you walk in. This place seriously must NEVER open on time. I have been here on several occasions, after dropping my stepdaughter off at school, and they don't open until 9 so I just hang out in my car and wait. Last time they opened at like 9:20 and I was waiting nearly an hour with a number of other customers. Today I thought perhaps it was a fluke. It was months ago, so here I am again because they do have a good variety of items. But they have yet to open! Considering that the last time I was here they had at least three women working, how is it none of them can get here on time? I bought my daughter a 150.00 airbrush for Christmas. When she tried it the other day it, it wouldn't work do I sent her to the shop with the receipt. I had paid cash. They would not return or exchange it but said for 10.00 they would have someone look at it!! Daughter argued about it but they wouldn't budge. Brought the airbrush back home, googled it and all that was wrong was the needle was not pushed in enough. That was a lot of grief and zero customer service. Edward's is a great resource in modesto for all the things you need to make cakes and sweet things. I have bought most of my cake decorating tools from here and the employees are always really helpful. There is a classroom located in the back where they have regular Wilton classes for cake decorating (I have taken 2 of them). They are fun, you do have to spend some money on supplies and time to prepare for the classes but they can teach you the basics to really impress people. They not only have cake classes but cupcakes, cookies, candy classes you just have to go in and ask for their class list. They start new classes every month that run 3-4 weeks and also have 1 day classes sometimes. This is definitely a gem in modesto! read more

I'm giving Edwards four stars simply because it's the only cake supply store I know of close by me. They do have a pretty good selection of cupcake liners, gel colors, sprinkles, dusts, etc. Although, I have noticed they are pricier on some things. I bought the same bucket of Satin Ice fondant online for like 10 bucks cheaper and that was including shipping! Though, I will still continue to shop here for some of my needs because it's more convenient, especially if I only need a few small things and need it right away, plus no shipping costs. It definitely beats Michael's baking supply as well. :) Btw, I also agree that the customer service isn't the greatest all the time. read more

Edwards has it all! I am always happy w/the service, friendly and knowledgeable. Any questions on how-to are answered clearly. They also offer decorating classes which I have yet to attend. I have been here many times. I am a rep for decopac so I know the prices of the stuff they sell. Edwards is way overpriced. It's actually cheaper if you go to save mart and ask them to sell it to you. They have a nice selection though, and the reason I shop here is if I need something that day and don't have time to have it over nighted. The staff has always been rude, especially the old lady at the counter. I mean, if you hate your job and the people so much, then quit! I was web surfing for a specialty baking store in the area and Edwards came up, since I'm ALWAYS adding to my collection as far as supplies for baking and decorating I decided to stop by to take a look at what they had to offer. First off, I've never really received any sort of "help" in this store every time I've been in (and it's been quite a few). The only time I received "help" was from this lady that was currently in charge of some of the classes they had to offer during holiday season for edible decorations made of gelatin and the only reason she talked to me was to try to get me to sign up for lessons. I politely declined but asked her what the decorations were made of, and she told me it was made with a bit of gelatin. Which I think is a complete rip off considering they sell the how to book right next to it, and I took a look at that and all the stuff that she had showed me was in the book. The classes they offered for that was double the price of the book. On to better things. They have all sorts of different themes as far as cake or cupcake decorations from Disney, to sports, and animals just to name a few (all decently priced too). They have baking pans of diff. shapes and sizes, personally I think they are either equal or a bit more for pans here. They have all sorts of containers for your baked goods, varying in sizes and colors. They have an okay selection for cookie cutters, they vary within holidays (there's a better place in Jamestown with a wider selection). I think one of my fav. things to get every time I stop in is a bottle of sprinkles, there's a good selection from sprinkles, to confetti's/perils/dusting glitter you name it and with plenty of beautiful colors to choose from. Also if you are into candy making, they do have candy making supplies here as well such as melts, candy molds, lollipop molds, sticks, wrappers, etc. there's a ton of fun ones, and if you're lucky you'll find cute ones for sale :) Handcrafted stuff are also sold here including frosting's, creams, edible sugar decorations (in many cute shapes). If you ever plan on making tiered cakes, they sell plenty of useful supplies for that as well. Overall, if you're a a professional baker or even a beginner this is THE one stop shop for you to go to. They offer lessons (most likely just learned from all of the books they sell sadly). But there's always something you need here! I only gave this place 2 stars due to the lack of customer service. Also, if you've never ever been here, they are only open till 6:30pm all week long and only till 5pm on sat. and closed on Sundays. read more

I recently moved back to California from Colorado and with my dad being a mason at several lodges. They were thrilled to get their cake baker back. My boyfriend and I came to Edwards Cake & Candy Supply to get cake boards, boxes, and fondant. We were greeted with a friendly smile and hello. Several employees throughout our shopping asked if we needed any help. I was amazed at the amount of items in such a small store. I found everything I was looking for. Worst customer service ever! The only reason I shop there is because it is the only place in the area. If I had availability to open my own shop, I would, because they are so rude. There is maybe two ladies that I've ever met and I've been kind and nice. The owner is rude and most everybody that she hires is also rude! The only place this business has going for it is location. They are rude, condescending and largely incompetent. We frequently get sugar-transfers online or at Winco, but on occasion have to go to Edwards due to time constraints. They screw it up everytime. The store is a mess. A small service oriented business can compete with Amazon by treating people well. Not the case here. read more
