We met in the bar ahead of our reservation, the bartender wasn't the friendliest guy around, he seemed bothered to get drinks for everyone. Overpriced drinks that we overpaid for and then tipped Mr. Miyagi on top of that. The food was pretty good but they charge extra for fried rice as part of the hibachi dinner which I found bizarre. After we finished and paid the waitress came back and told us we didn't tip enough, after some light arguing back and forth she wasn't going to accept only 20% so we tipped even more to get crazy waitress just to go away. By then it was more than a 30% tip. I guess what I find confusing is why a restaurant that serves Chinese food, labeled as such on their menu, would only expect reviews about the Japanese food. Jasmine is an interesting restaurant. It is large like a warehouse but split into several rooms, all with nice decor. There is a small bar room ... this needs to be expanded. Many times I have gone with friends and not been able to find a seat, which is a good problem for a restaurant to have. However, there have been times that I have avoided Jasmine because I knew the small bar would be full. There is a larger dining room to the side. There is a room for hibachi cooking with chefs cooking at the table and doing the traditional schtick for that. There is another room which has tables and a sit down sushi bar. Before I go into the food, the biggest problem I have with Jasmine is the seating arrangement. You have 2 main dining rooms yet they seem to mix the groups of people together. What I mean by that is that there are always several loud, roudy groups of younger adults crazy drunk ... banging on the table, swearing and being loud. The Mai Tais are strong here, and I understand that as such you are going to have rowdy young groups ... but the restaurant should consider using the back dining room for those groups ... and using the sushi bar dining room for diners who want more of a quiet experience. Once, I was on a date and there was a table of about 8 people in their 20s in the sushi bar dining room. They were screaming out obscenities ... the F word was used about 10 times at yelling sound level within the first few minutes I sat down. Then, one of the group found it funny to start loudly banging on the table. When one of the other couples at the table next to them looked over, one of the group said 'I dont Fking care. Stare at me all day.' and kept up the banging. I asked to switch to another dining room and they brought me to the back one. There was another table of about 6 or 7 ... 20 somethings, liquored up. After a few minutes, I again heard the F word several times very loudly and then one of the people started dropping the N-word. This was at around 5 p.m. on a Sunday. It seems this happens EVERY TIME I go to Jasmine. Musical tables because of a loud group. The problem would be solved by making the back dining room a 'loud' one and using the sushi bar one into more of a couples on dates and families dining room. I will never bring a date or family to Jasmine because of this. I will more often go with friends because the menu is very extensive and the food is good. Stick with the Chinese food ... its the staples. Chicken fingers, Spare ribs, etc. The Japanese section of the menu is interesting but it comes from the package, not fresh made. I ordered tempura shrimp one time and it came out looking like something that came out of a package at BJs Wholesale. Chinese food is supposed to be mass produced, but if any restaurant in Japan served that type of Japanese food, they would commit Hari Kari. The sushi is also very good. The chefs are skilled and know what they are doing and the presentation of the sushi is better than most places. The waitstaff are very capable most times and will get you what you want without problems. The prices are very reasonable for food ... especially take out. The drinks are a bit high priced for a Chinese restaurant. A few Mai Tais will set you back quite a bit. They do have Japanese beer in the can, but you will pay more for it. If you are going out with a family or on a date, be cautious of the environment you will be in, especially on weekends or after 5 p.m. The pre-packaged Japanese food and the loud atmosphere would be my only issues with Jasmine. This is one of the most popular restaurants in Auburn for a reason. read more

I visited Jasmine's for the first time on Sunday. People at work and my boyfriend always rave about Jasmines. From the outside it looks like your average Chinese restaurant but once you're inside it is actually pretty nice. The buffet area was smaller than I expected but they had available what I usually eat at Chinese buffets. We reserved a hibachi table at Jasmines the night of February 23rd at 5:30PM. We were sat right away, the server came over promptly. From here, the service went down for the most part. Our server was not personable at all with our group, he seemed to rush and want to move on to the next table. Wanted us to order everything within 4/5 minutes of sitting down. He was hard to understand, not sure if that is his personality or they wanted to rush tables that night however, we were there for a reason and wanted to enjoy the night and felt we couldn't. When the cook came out, the cook was great with our 2 year old, making her smile and have a great time with the "big fire" as she calls it. This review is not about poor quality food or service by the cook/chef. After we were done eating, the check came over ($300 total, $60 a person). Price wasn't an issue for all we got however, the manager came over and was like "everything all set" in an attitude like hurry up, my wife was pregnant and the waitresses were very pushy and actually pushed by my wife to clean the table as she was getting her jacket on. WE went here for the lunch buffet today. It was huge! We went to the Mandarin the other day in Milford and I have to say that Jasmine was much better. I tried so many things and honestly I didn't have anything that was gross or that I didn't like or finish. I tried an eggroll, crab rangoons, a chicken skewer, some boneless pork ribs, california roll sushi, some sauted shrimp and surimi, green beans, honey chicken, sesame chicken, chicken and broccoli, lo mein noodles (which for a change were actually good). They had four different tables to choose from, everything was fresh and tasty looking, not like it had been sitting there for hours or anything. If anything it's the first asian buffet I have been too where I had a hard time not just eating everything because everything was very enticing. I did try a piece of sushi that had salmon in it that I didn't like, and one deep friend scallop. Other then that it was all good, fresh, and high quality. Dessert was all mini pieces of like chocolate cake, cream puffs, and some mini eclairs. None of those rocked my world but I was way to full by then to really care. Total cost was $12.17 with tip! A family tradition is now dead because of my Christmas dinner at jasmines. My ID shows my hair long, these days my hair is short. The waitress very rudely dropped her jaw and proceeded to be shocked that I could possibly be a female. For the remainder of the night, she ignored my shrimp allergy and anything else I ordered or asked for. I was enjoying my second drink at that point, only being there 45 minutes. She packed up my meal when I wasn't finished eating off of my plate and my whole party wanted to enjoy another round of our drinks. I had to bicker with her over a third drink while the rest of my party was on their 4th. A new bill had to be printed, again only there 54 minutes now, and I gave her my card but when she came back she insisted I signed it immediately and I asked for a minute because I was mid conversation. I cannot complement on the Teppan-Yaki stations or bar. I've gone twice with my wife for the Chinese and sushi. Each time the hostess seem to be bothered that we were coming in. One time she didn't even give us menus to sit down with. If you go for lunch they'll give you the pricey dinner menu. Each booths we've been seated at have patches on them. The Chinese dishes that we have had have been "meh" at best. I understand they are a Japanese place but if you charge the same price for something I could get at a real Chinese place I expect it to taste as such. The real down fall to this place are the servers. Each time we have felt ignored and rushed to decide and to get out. WILL NEVER SUPPORT THIS PLACE. Beware! My teenage daughter and her friends had lunch at Jasmine last week. My daughter's meal came out to be $36. She paid with cash and debit card as she did not have enough to pay the whole amount in cash. She asked to add 20% tip to the check. When the waitress returned the bill showed that her debit card was charged $20 instead of 20% of the bill as she asked. She asked the waitress to correct the mistake but was told that it is too late to change it because the check was already closed. Clearly my teenage daughter was taken advantage of as the cashier cannot close the check without the customer's signature. She is not experienced and savy enough yet to asked to speak to manager and get her money back. Very dishonest! Make sure to check your bill carefully. By the time we got back, there was already a to-go box waiting next to my food. The chef also kept insisting that we post pictures of him to Instagram and tag him, all while we were trying to eat. Got the check and saw that gratuity was added, which was fine. But then, the server stood over me while I was signing the bill, telling me that I should add more because servers there have to split their tips with the chefs. We already tipped the chef separately. She wouldn't go away until I added the extra tip and signed the check. Parties being seated in our section while we were eating all left without ordering, shortly after sitting down. The food was good and it looked like a nice place. It just felt like the restaurant is out of control and no one is in charge when it's busy. Its too loud to talk. Management is unwilling to take action. I was running some errands in Auburn on Sunday and had a sudden urge for sushi. I pulled up Yelp on the 'ol iPhone and saw that I was literally 0.5 mi from Jasmine. Perfect because I haven't tried it yet and I didn't feel like dropping the cash in Worcester. I'm not crazy about restaurants in strip malls, so I was feeling a bit turned off initially. As we walked in, the hostesses were friendly and the space seemed inviting. We were seated right away. It was not very busy yet, but that is because we were there early. The menu includes "traditional" Chinese fair, and sushi. They also have a hibachi style area where you can have the chef cook in front of your group. I liked that the bar area was sectioned off from the rest of the restaurant. We were craving sushi so we ordered 4 or 5 different rolls and I also ordered tuna sashimi. I tend to judge a sushi restaurant on the freshness of their tuna sashimi -- Jasmine's is very fresh. Of the rolls we ordered, i liked the tiger Eye and the spicy tuna roll the best. I also ordered some of the house Saki (warm) which was also good. Service was good. Not intrusive and always kept our water glasses full. The food here is very reasonable. I will definitely come back if I don't want to drive the extra 5 miles into the city or if I want to stay on a lower budget. Not including tip, our meal came to $40+. If this were in the city, i would probably have spent close to $100. Technically, I think 3.5 stars is fair, but it gets 4. read more
