Eastern Pearl always delivers! Delicious chicken with broccoli - great balance of chicken and broccoli in a fantastic brown sauce.

Probably one of the best interiors out of any Chinese food restaurants I've been to ... this is a former bank from the 1920's which has been redesigned as a restaurant. It feels like something from a vintage movie. If only they would turn the heat on ... they keep it super cold inside in the winter, so much so that we had to wear our jackets while we ate and deal with runny noses. How much could heat cost? The food here is very average. You won't hate your meal, but you also probably won't love it. The fried rice is bland and you can certainly tell it isn't made fresh as all the ingredients seem to be old and reheated several times. The lunch specials are pretty complicated to order ... you pick your special, then you pick a side from a list and then you pick one other side. Customization is cool ... but it gets confusing. The staff here is very aloof. They are never there when you need them ... they have all the personality of a block of ice ... and seem mildly annoyed if you ask for anything. (extra hot mustard ... a refill on water ... substitutions in your order, etc.) I understand that there is a pretty significant language barrier with most, but it comes across more as rudeness and apathy than a language understanding issue. The best dish I've ever had here was the shrimp in house sauce. Everything else is on par with most Chinese restaurants post-pandemic ... the quality and portion size is down, while the prices are up. It's not bad snack food ... or lunch food ... but I am not sure if I could eat here as a full meal and leave feeling satisfied. In the area, there are not too many choices for Chinese food. There is Yummi in Dudley, which is as bad at is gets lately. There is Empire Wok in Dudley, which is about as clean as a men's room at a Patriots game. And Kahlua in Southbridge which is a bit hood. Overall, this is the spot I'd choose if I was in the Dudley/Southbridge area and looking to grab Chinese food. Shrinkflation is real here. read more

Ordered our usual of fried rice and 5 appetizers. The price went up $23 from the last time and quality of food has taken a nosedive. Expected a price increase as food has gone up, but that was on the high side. Boneless spare ribs were all fat and grizzle. Beef teriyaki had no taste and was about 1/2 the size. Even the hot mustard has been watered down so much it isn't hot. Too bad as we have enjoyed food from there in the past - but no more goodbye Eastern Pearl. read more

Chinese cuisine connoisseur It was my first time, and their rice was terrible. It's not fried rice, but rather plain white rice with soy sauce that hasn't been "fried." Or just boxed rice ? So I am a regular customer but evidently not that important as there was a large party in the restaurant. My wife received and ate her food 10 minutes before I received my food. Of course my food arrived completely cold. Moral of this story is the food is good, the wait staff were understaffed and not coordinated well. We used to order from this place all the time. Slowly their quality of food and service has declined. Tonight was the final straw, the food was mediocre at best, and I ordered a large order of crab ragoons and never received them. When calling back I was stuck waiting on hold for 5+ minutes, when someone finally answered I informed them of not receiving part of my order, the women then claimed that I had asked for extra chicken and not crab ragoons which is false. They refused to credit me my money, I will never return. read more

I had relatives visiting from Florida & they had a craving for Chinese food. Since it was a Monday, the place that I usually get Chinese food from (The New Hot Wok in Douglas....by far the BEST Chinese food in the area!) unfortunately was closed. We first stopped at the Empire Wok in Webster. It was 12:30 in the afternoon & there wasn't a single car in the parking lot. We thought it was closed or out of business. The place looked dingy & dirty from the outside, & even though We discovered that it was indeed open, lack of any cars in the lot was a bad sign, so We decided to try Eastern Pearl. I ordered the luncheon combo plate, chicken with cashew nuts. It came with pork fried rice, & I opted for an egg roll from the appetizer list. It was pretty disappointing to say the least. The waitress had the personality of an ash tray...no Thank You, nothing. The rice was bland & tasteless, the chicken was miniscule diced pieces & a very small portion, and the egg roll had a very strange taste. The best thing about the entire meal was the glass of water. First & last time at this joint! If You want REAL Chinese food skip this place & go to the New Hot Wok in Douglas! read more

Ordered a house special soup - which the menu specifies as having chicken and seafood. When it came out I was certain they had mixed up my order because my soup had tofu and egg whites (in addition to shrimp). The chef came out and I explained that this was not what I wanted/expected and he began to lecture me on how it's impossible to list all the items in every dish but I simply had no interest in a tofu/egg white soup so I sent it back. Then he yelled at me and told me if that's the way I'm going to be, to not to order ANYTHING off the menu. Basically he told me to get lost and never come back. They changed the menu a little bit. They eliminated the tofu teriyaki dinner which is what I usually got. I asked the waiter if they could still make it and this is how it went: Me - "You used to have tofu teriyaki on the menu, do you still have it?" WAITER - "Is it on the menu?" This is the best Chinese in the area. The only negatives are that they don't deliver and the rice is beyond bland and usually hard. Their typical items like chicken fingers, crab rangs, lo mein, etc are all very good and tasty. Some places over salt or season their items but not here. read more

Our drinks took about 30 minutes to get to our table, food took nearly an hour and then when it finally came (after we queried the long wait) it was the wrong order! The waitress actually argued with us about whether it was right or not and was VERY rude about it. She also audibly argued with the couple sitting behind us when they pointed out they were also still waiting on their food. I would NOT reccomend this restaurant to anyone. I paid nearly $10 for the food pictured and had to argue to even get it and when it eventually did come it was stone cold. Rude staff and not good value for money. read more

It was a debating about whether to give this 3 or 4 stars So the long of it is Eastern Pearl has some very good food but a little hit or miss. The general gaus chicken peking raviolis and crab Rangoon's are delightful great on flavor and always leaving u wanting more. On the other hand the pork fried rice is flavorless with dried bits of pork. Their beef and broccoli leaves much to be desired as brown sauce should be THIN not like i'm having beef with broccoli stew. As for the chicken teriyaki it was good I will try one more time (with different food) but i have a feeling I'm playing a D&D sesh with this restaurant sometimes as to the styling of the food. The quality IS there don't get me wrong none of this feels cheap more just the consistently and prep. I have never eaten there in the restaurant or grabbed a drink at the bar as i moved a little before covid started but who knows maybe ill get to try that some day. read more

Webster, Pink Lady, and American... also, a Gen-G-Combo with spare ribs, crab Rangoon and a side order of beef teriyaki... the sushi was okay. And, given the immediate area, that's what one could hope for. General G's chicken was the same run of the mill thing you find most full service Chinese restaurants... but, as a combo with CRAPPY PORK FRIED RICE, SUB-PAR SPARE RIBS and BLAH CRAB RANGOON... then NOOOOO! Seriously, this is what we paid $63 dollars for???? After I got home... my wife says... Oh yeah, I would have stopped you from going there... everyone she works with thinks the Chinese food from there is horrible. Yup!!!! I'm no food snob, but, I DO know food. I implore these restauranteurs to take a ride to ChinaTown on Thayer Street in providence for a quality awareness lunch/dinner!!! Times are tough, for all of us. I can't believe how this restaurant went from being so very good to absolutely horrible. It pains me to write that the quality and temperature are simply unacceptable. I stopped going there after 3 consecutive take-out orders were presented to us luke warm. When I complained, the hostess--now long-gone--informed me that the cooks would keep the back door open in the winter and that this was why the food was cold. I was not the first to complain about this, apparently. When I brought my concerns to the owner, who seemed to be very nice when he opened this establishment, told me that I was WRONG about the temp of the order(s). I will say that is is a beautiful place, very well preserved old building that was well decorated. Aside from that the food was disappointing. I came because of the 4.5 star rating. I found the food unfairly priced, I paid the same for an avocado roll and a cucumber roll and terrible salad as my friend paid for a spicy tuna roll and volcano roll again with the terrible salad. My rolls were good but for $9 for lunch, I left hungry and unsatisfied feeling overcharged. The bento box lunches looked good but no substitutions were allowed without paying more, even subbing a cucumber roll for a California roll. read more
