I asked if there was an alternative that would work and was assured that there wasn't. We were on our fifth day without air conditioning so I agreed to pay $1,125.00 for three pounds of R22 to be added. Afterwards I checked with two reputable HVAC companies and was informed that there is an alternative to R22 that could be used which is much less expensive.
