They "FORGOT" to make the chicago roll and another roll that we ordered. We kept waiting and it just never came, until I ask the server about it close to finishing the rest of the food that we ordered. He said they forgot. And Im like u know what screw it. Overpriced, but in the landlocked state of CO, this is one of the best sushi restaurants. I ordered take out, so I can't comment much on their decor, but the place looks very fun, modern, clean, and exciting. Great place to take a date or adult party time! The server who handed me my order was very friendly and you could tell she had a beautiful smile behind her mask. I would like to try their 'happy hour' since it seems to be affordable for the average working folk and the establishment appears very artsy and interesting. Definitely order the Aquaman specialty roll. It was the best part of our dinner. The nigiri was very tasty, fresh, and meaty piecies of fishies. Ordered a takeout cocktail contained in a mason jar. Pretty cute and flavorful ingredients the bartender invented. For $30 it did fill half a beer glass and was a cocktail size enough for two people. Just expected more volume, or an extra shot in there, for that price point. The kids menu is spot on: the amount of food, freshness, and nutritional choices for the little one's enjoyment is accurate and a good price. The sautéed veggies were way over-salted, but once I mixed with the white rice and teriyaki chicken breast it made it completely edible. Wow!! NO words! Make reservations because you will need them. If you know a week in advance definitely call and reserve a table. This Has to be some of the best sushi I've ever had. The drinks were amazing and something different for everybody; and my drink was topped with a toasted marshmallow on it that was delicious. Last night we ate at Japango, likely for the last time. We have eaten here every few months in the past seven years and it has been our go-to spot for quality sushi with good vegetarian options. But in three visits during the past six months, the service has progressively gone from aloof and inconsistent to incompetent and actively rude. We know that restaurants are still struggling to recover from the past few years, but the experience Japango is delivering is unacceptable, especially given the prices they charge. My wife is vegetarian, and while she used to regularly order their veggie sushi rolls, had to stop because they would consistently show up with roe sloppily scattered across them. More recently, she has ordered the Mile High Tofu to avoid the errant fish eggs. But each time, her tofu and my sushi have been served at wildly different times, forcing one of us to wait for around a half hour in order to eat our meals at the same time. This is quite inconvenient when the sushi arrives first, but it ruins the meal when the tofu arrives first and gets cold, as happened on an earlier visit. Last night, our server, Stephen, greeted us with a literal yawn, proceeded to get our drink order wrong, and then disappeared for most of the meal. We would not have received our miso soups had we not asked the runner who brought out my sushi about them. And, sure enough, the sushi preceded the tofu by 20 minutes. Although Stephen did appear to apologize for the tofu taking so long, we never saw him again. When it did finally arrive, underneath the tofu's tempura exterior was a melted, liquid texture that was not only unappetizing, but after the fact, left my wife sick the rest of the night and into the next morning. With our server MIA, we got the check from the hostess and left. Bottom line: we won't accept rude and inept service and wavering food, all of which are on a steep downward trajectory at odds with their sky high prices. Time to try Boulder's other sushi establishments. read more

We decided to eat at Japango while shopping on Pearl Street in Boulder. It's a very open, spacey restaurant and beautifully decorated. The jellyfish "tube" aquarium was a big hit with the 5 year old. We ordered the spicy calamari....it is sautéed not fried so it's a bit different. It was okay, not great. Kids ordered noodles in a broth (forgot the name) and it was fantastic as was the Miso soup. Wife ordered a special roll and it was incredible. We ordered a bottle of the Purple Hands Pinot Noir...what an outstanding bottle of wine. Great service, great sushi and Miso and a very pleasant atmosphere. Kudos to Japango. Would love to go back to sample more! read more

Just went to Japango for the first time in a while and it seems they've really stepped up their game. They not only had some unusual specials like chu-toro and Atlantic Salmon that were fantastic and week prepared, but their special rolls were creative and delectable. Service was also top notch. My second visit and the food and drinks were amazing. Ryan made me an amazing "bartenders choice" rotating cocktail and the kitchen made a few rolls that would put the best of Boulder and all the west coast I've traveled to shame. The Eastern European gal (czech maybe) was hilarious and very knowledgeable about wine. I took my mom here on my first trip and we explored the cold sake options, the hand rolls were fantastic; especially the pickled plum hand roll. Will definitely return. read more

The ambiance we received from this place was far from warm and hospitable with the exception of our waiter. Most of the displeasing experience from this restaurant fell in the behavior & service of the host Macy and her manager, whose name I did not get. It isn't my first-time experiencing racism and prejudice notions so I am very attuned and keen on words and actions, especially in the hospitality industry. The behavior of the hostess (Macy) and her manager this day really showcased racial profiling. In the beginning, we saw plenty of people being attended to and given tables. As customers, we had to wait outside till the hostess was ready for you to step up to her, or she would come out of the restaurant to attend to you. When it was our turn to be attended to, I waited outside assuming shed notion us the signal that she's ready for us to step up or at least acknowledge us (as she was doing to the other patrons). I stupidly continued to wait outside until it was obvious she was ignoring us. Since there were customers behind us I decided to step to her podium. When I inquired for a table for 2, she informed us that we had to wait for 40 minutes for a table to which I had no problem with - I assumed that for a sushi restaurant in Boulder, it can be worth it. There was plenty of seating indoors and outdoors (not referring to the social distancing tables which obviously can't be used) so we found it so odd we were seated at a table that was so secluded that unless you opened the heavy door to wave to the waiter, you'd have trouble getting the attention of any staff. The manager stated everyone else had reservations but when I asked 2 couples who were sat before us if they had reservations they confirmed they did not - meaning that we (2 Latina travelers) were just placed in the back burner as everyone else was prioritized. The table was dusty alongside the plates that were already there. What added to this insult was the manager who handed our napkins. My sister's napkin had a huge stain and even though she saw the stain on the napkin she just had the mere managerial instincts to pause for a second and pretended as if she never saw it. Not only is this poor lack of customer service, but this was also highly unhygienic. Even if it was before, during, or after COVID-19, I do not understand how a "manager" can acknowledge the napkin with her eyes and act as if that was not a problem at all. It is utterly disgusting that she thought it was okay for anyone to use this. If her mere job is just so sit down customers I question why the restaurant needs a "manager" in the first place and more importantly what sanitary precautions & safety measures they are upholding their staff to ensure a safe place to dine. After 15 minutes of waiting for someone to arrive, David, our server finally offered at least water. Within these 15 minutes, my sister and I were debating on leaving but also started to discuss as to why we felt like we're being singled out and treated oddly (poorly in essence). We even considered the possibility of our outfits as being the reason as to why they didn't want us to be "seen" in the restaurant (we had on casual leisurewear wear). However, even though there were some who dressed a bit fancier there were plenty of couples and families who dressed casually. If it wasn't for David's warm hospitality and superb customer service skills, I would have rated this restaurant a 1. It was his genuine and real customer service that we finally were able to be less tense and weirded out & actually feel safe. He even noticed the dusty plates and made the initiative to change them without me having to flag it to him. Sushi is something I genuinely enjoy and splurge on so I am not new to this dining experience. The sushi here is just good - nothing more nothing less. I did not find anything outstanding. Perhaps because it is the only sushi restaurant available in this parameter that it can be a special treat but I have eaten way better sushi and have had a real Japanese sushi restaurant experience that leaves this experience subpar read more

This is my absolute new favorite after work dinner spot! As a traveling consultant from Florida, I've made it a bit of a personal mission to find the best sushi joints when out of town for work. I think I found Boulder's best sushi here! Japango has an upscale vibe with a classy bar and an inviting interior. Even featuring a tank full of jelly fish in the middle of the restaurant! No jellyfish on the menu, so no worries, it's just for aesthetics! The service here is wonderful. I've already eaten here 3xs and have encountered nothing but smiles and sincere service each and every occasion. The main reason I love this place so much though, is for their killer HAPPY HOUR. This is the place to come if you want sushi, wine, beer, sake, apps and more for an affordable price. I especially love the tempura seared tuna which is full of flavor. The bento box lunch special is an excellent deal. Only $10 for a full blown meal, miso soup included. An ideal lunch spot with a colleague. Tonight though, I hit the jackpot here! $40 ALL YOU CAN EAT sushi! While this sounds like a lot (and it is) the type of Nigiri, Maki, Small Plates, Entrees and Sushi rolls that you can choose from are well worth the price. To order 2 rolls for example, you'd already be close to this value. I just fulfilled my deepest sushi dreams with the amount I ordered. Probably being hard core judged right now, but it's worth it! This restaurant also features several large TVs, so it's a great place to watch a sporting game without any hint of a sporting bar feel. Stumbled upon this spot while walking down Pearl Street and was not disappointed! Their front patio is perfect for people watching and enjoying the sun, but on this day it was full so we were seated in the smaller back patio, still full of plants and personality. We tried the Japango roll, Philadelphia roll, & one more I can't recall. They were all excellent and tasted really fresh (a difficult feat for this land locked state!). I understand inflation but my once favorite sushi restaurant in Boulder is skimping on the fish and charging exorbitant prices. I have been patronizing this restaurant since the 90's when it first opened. The fish is fresh but there is barely enough to taste. No one wants to hear their waiter recite the entire contents if each roll when being served. The value is no longer there at Japango. Go across the street to Hapa instead. Oh man. My colleague told me about this place and boy was she right. A few words that's close to your typical chirashi bowl: Salmon and salmon roe bowl. I know some of you can't handles those fish eggs but for those that can, this is a salmon roe lovers dream sushi meal. I often order Chirashi, it's just healthier than those rolls. Fresh fish over rice. This bowl was pure salmon and half of the bowl filled with Ikura. That was as close as sushi could take me to heaven. This place is known for their old fashions with the bartender with a double bun. This was advised from another bartender in Boulder. Both bartenders there were super helpful and nice. Drinks on the menu vary up to $30 but it's just such a great drink. Open late, and serving food late. Will for sure be back. read more

Visited Dallas on a leisure trip. I was finicky about getting sushi so far from the coast, but I was blown away at the quality of the fish served. We started with the Kama appetizer dish, terriakyi style. This is the cheek of the yellowtail fish. It was flaky, cooked throughly, and over all to die for. For our main course, we indulged in various sashimi pieces, along with the Colorado roll and Naninay roll. Presentation was phenomenal. Both were out of this world with flavor and rolled to perfection. We finished off our meal with chocolate mouse and the green tea cream brûlée. I also got a pot of the earl grey tea. Presentation was yet again pristine. After a mention earlier in the meal, our waiter, Greg, even put a candle on my girlfriends dessert for her birthday. Overall our experience was wonderful and service was the best I've seen in a while. Next time I make it to town, I'll definitely be stopping by. read more

When I arrived, they refused to seat us indoors, despite the fact there were multiple empty four tops in the restaurant. They put us outside in the freezing November evening weather. I have been to Japango many times over the years and this time the food was by far the most mediocre. And the highest priced.
