Drive thru is closed.. disappointing but food was still good. I enjoyed the rainbow roll and it was delicious

Their food is usually very good here. It's a small place and their service is good. They can get pretty busy sometimes. Ti might I ordered my normal and they were extremely busy so they forgot to cook the steak in the sauce for my hibachi dinners so it wasn't very good. They may have changed something about the steak though too so I probably won't get that anymore but their food is still pretty decent so I'll probably still stop by every once in a while for some sushi or something. I feel bad because they really have a ton of potential they just need some assistance especially when it gets busy. Only took off one star because it's not a normal thing and they have never really messed up orders of the 100 times I've been there. Maybe like 3 or 4 times something wasn't as good. No but it's good, and you get A lot for a little. white sauce is tasty unlike other hibachi I have had. It's a good staple and I hope they are around another 12 years. read more

I highly recommend that you don't eat here for one week ordered our food and I got a different combo than what's on the menu and it was a $3.25 up charge and I get my food and I only have four pieces of the meat I ordered for $3.25. To add in to that my fiancé is eating her food and most of her steak is not cooked well done as ordered...I just feel I was charged so much for so little and for my food not to be right . read more

I love Japan Express! Their Lunch and Dinner Hibachi combos are so affordable, tasty and well portioned. Their rice is one of the best I've had at hibachi. I've also tried their sushi, fresh and flavorful. Even my 5 year old enjoys dinners from here. They also have a drive thru!!! read more

The best fast casual Japanese restaurant I've been to in Orlando! This place is just across the street from where I work and come here when I have a craving for hibatchi. While yes I love Kobe's, my budget doesn't allow for me to go there frequently. However Japan Express is a great alternative especially when on the go. Japan Express offers an extensive menu with a lunch section that also applies on weekends. I usually go for the sirloin steak hibatchi lunch witch includes a salad, steak, veggies and fried rice! What a great combo and portion size for only about $7! The food is always hot and fresh. If you choose to dine in they give you a huge bottle of white sauce to use as you'd like while enjoying your meal! For someone who loves white sauce as much as me this is a dream come true!!! So what I really love about Japan Express is they have a drive through! What I like to do is call right before I leave work and just go through the drive though to pick up my order. This is one of those instances where half-stars would have come in handy as I would have scored Japan Express as a "3.5." However, I should point out that I've only used their drive thru services. Japan Express is located in a free-standing fast-food type building (I think it was a KFC in a former life) and they offer habachi-type as well as sushi fare and I've tried both. The habachi food (I tried the chicken entree) is just "okay," but the price is good for the large amount of food you get. The sushi (I should mention here that I don't eat seafood) comes as 8 pieces per roll. I usually order the vegetable roll - avocado and cucumber - as well as the chicken tempura roll (which has cream cheese in addition to the tempura chicken). I liked both rolls well enough to keep going back to Japan Express (plus, I'm lazy and the drive thru option is highly appealing to us lazy folk). Regarding the drive thru option - be prepared to wait 10 or 15 minutes for your order. I don't mind this now that I know this is the norm, but the first few times this happened, I was very impatient (and hungry). Also, no matter which staff member is manning the drive thru, their affect is pretty flat and there's no friendliness. They're not rude by any means, just kind of emotionless. At any rate, I'll continue to patron Japan Express because 1) they're close to my house, 2) the food is okay and 3) I'm laz so drive thru is appealing. read more

Sadly, I wasn't terribly impressed. Extra star for larger portions but it lacked some flavor to me.

I love the idea of being able to order sushi in a drive though and I haven't seen this anywhere else. I've tried the California roll, Florida roll and shrimp tempura roll, all of them I loved. The prices are very reasonable and the drive through is always a minimal wait for your food. read more

This place is great for a quick sashimi fix for me and my daughter without spending lavishly. I get the #17 (16 pcs sashimi combo includes soup) and share it with my daughter and get my son the #77 (gyoza/dumplings) all for $20 lunch. That's not bad for the 3 of us considering a light lunch, that includes fresh fish. We come here often as it is close by our house. The owners are familiar with us so it's nice to see smiling faces serve you. Lunch specials for sushi and hibachi are great and cheap for serving size and meats. They serve pretty fast too, so if you're pressed for time, try it out. read more

First time visiting this establishment due to the world situation I chose to use the drive thru however the lobby is open. The service was courteous and fast also food substitutions are allowed without an up charge. There are COVID 19 protocols in place for safety. First visit here. I was actually surprised at the quality. Drive thru was packed! Glad I went inside and just waited for my food to go. Was pretty fresh still after coming home. The hibachi was very tasty for the price, got steak and chicken. Was juicy meat with rice and noodle which was juicy as well from the hibachi juice! Honestly, I just moved to the area about a month ago and have been here once a week. Good hibachi for under 15 bucks. Very good food.

I can't honestly believe this is the same restaurant everyone else is leaving great reviews of. Noodles were lukewarm and tasted stale. The sauce was sour. 3 1/2 stars for being a good drive-thru hibachi spot. This Japan Express venue is located on Aloma near the Whole Foods plaza. My wife and I decided to check it out the other day because we were in the mood for some quick hibachi. The way it works is you drive up like you would any other drive-thru restaurant. You then look on a small menu of their items, ranging from hibachi bowls to sushi to soup, and place your order. When you drive up to the window, you pay and wait a little while before they hand you a bag with your order and you drive off. On the night that we decided to check out Japan Express, we order the steak hibachi bowl, which came with fried rice, the white & ginger sauces (2 white sauces ftw) and onion soup. While I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more steak, the steak and soup were good and they did include a solid amount of rice. Overall, while I can't give this a 4 star because the experience and food felt so fast-food'ish, I will say that Japan Express is a good place to check out if you are looking to get some hibachi in a hurry for a cheap price. read more

Ehh. This place is weird. I don't really know where to start. It's a fast food style restaurant, where you order from the big overhead menu. The only tables that were occupied when we came in for lunch were the ones containing employees' children. Reruns of "Man vs. Food" played on the television in the corner of the dining area. We wanted to see what they had to offer, so we tried both a hibachi lunch plate and a roll of sushi. The sushi menu is simple. You've got the single-ingredient rolls (tuna roll, salmon roll, etc). Then you've got the Tempura Rolls section, which all consist of some level of tempura fried items, and at least one of which where the whole thing is fried. Finally, you've got the Special Rolls, the majority of which also contain fried contents. Our only preferences were 1) something a little more complex than just a single-ingredient roll, 2) nothing fried, and 3) something with fish in it. That left us with... one roll. Yep. The first two sections of the menu are out for obvious reasons, and only two rolls in the Special Rolls section were free of fried stuff. Of those two, only one actually had fish in it. The Rainbow Roll. You can get a Rainbow Roll anywhere. It's pretty simple, usually just a California Roll topped with tuna, salmon, avocado, and escolar. This roll was even simpler. Just a stick of fake krab and some cream cheese rolled up with those four ingredients on top. It wasn't particularly well rolled either, but whatever, it was fine. The hibachi lunch wasn't bad, but it was different. Whatever sauce the steak and chicken was cooked in was sweet -- an unexpected flavor in a hibachi plate. The pinkish colored sauce also had a sweetness to it. Again, an unexpected flavor. I didn't hate it, but... weird. At any rate, I left the restaurant full, but a little confused. read more

As for the service.. maybe it's not the best but this is one of those places that you know the food is bomb because the service lacks a bit. Pretty fast service for drive-thru sushi. The portion is small for the price, but it's decent. The building is a little run down. The drive-thru window needs a little more security. Ironically, the staff is very aloof, despite their polite vocabulary. I usually get the #23, Mixed Sashimi. Today I had my daughter with me and her favorite is a smoked salmon and cream cheese roll, so we tried it. I ordered a crab tempura and when I told the man who was rude and unprofessional that we are missing the sauce that goes over he told me that's how he's been doing it for over 10 years.
