I've been going to the nail palace for at least 14 years on and off. I generally get some combo of gel or regular mani or pedi and eyebrow waxing. Everyone does a great job. They have tons of plastic dividers up for covid and require masks so everyone feels safe. read more

This place is still ridiculously rude even years after continuing to give it a try out of convenience. Every time I make an appointment the women look at me like I'm stupid when I walk in and they don't start on time. Tonight I made an appt for me and my 10yr old daughter for 6pm. These women did not even address us. We were there right at 6 and the place was full. At around 615 they told us to put our feet in water. About 620 I realized that they were stalling. No one came to us and when we decided to leave they didn't even bother to apologize. I HATE IT HERE DO NOT TRY IT. They treat people like crap and it's inexcusable. read more

Janet's Nail Palace during this pandemic is safer than some doctors' offices. Janet has built plexiglass partitions that her staff uses when providing services to customers. The partitions protect both the manicurist and the customer. I have been going to this nail salon for about 30 years and have used the same manicurist, Angie, during these years. Angie always provides over-the-top service! The salon mandates masks for all staff and customers. This is a note of praise for the excellent job your staff has done creating a safe and hospitable Covid-free environment. The movable plexiglass screens used during pedicures and the stationary screens for the manicures ensure a high degree of protection while also allowing the client and the provider to see eachother and talk freely. I was also very impressed by the follow-up cleaning of screens and other surfaces after each client left and before a new client was seated. It is a great idea to post the up-to-date Covid 19 training certificates each staff member earned, thus ensuring your customer's confidence in your staff. I have come here on and off since the 90s. Today was the worst yet. As usual the staff chats among themselves and you are not invited to the party. At all. The place is dirty, instruments have who knows whose nail dust all over it. I have had a technician eat her lunch while painting my nails. Today, there was so much chatter among them, I didn't actually get the whole pedicure...she barely massaged because she was focused elsewhere. Then, she was sneezing! Her snotty hands were working on me! She couldn't understand why I was uneasy. Lastly, as I was leaving, another technician is just standing there flossing her teeth. No joke! I didn't even get nail polish, although I was charged $25.00 for this service, and then quickly went over to CVS to buy antibiotic cream. I've been going here for three years and the staff is always kind and thorough. I was there very recently and they are taking all of the necessary precautions for cleanliness and safety and even stayed 30 minutes after closing to do my pedicure. I would've given Janets Nail Palace 5 Stars but the manacurists spend a lot of time talking to each other while working on clients. Most of the time they are speaking in Vietnamese which makes you wonder if they intentionally don't want their clients to understand their conversations. I'm confused as to why people are so hard on this place. Maybe I came in on a good day, but my pedicure was wonderful. The woman working with me, was very nice. Even added five+ minutes to my ten minute massage! I'll take that any day! Prices are low and great. $15 mani, $30 pedi. Cheap for this area. The only cons: the polishes seemed old, and there weren't many choices. Neutrals are in, and I might have seen five options. Most of which were dried up and almost empty. They could invest in more neutrals and less neons. I also found it odd that there were nine workers in this place during lunch, and two customers. 6 nail technicians sat in the back chairs eating and talking loudly. Not very relaxing. They should eat and socialize loudly in the back. Their yelp reviews may be effecting their business numbers. read more

My friend raved about this place and I cannot figure out why. The three of us went for manicures and I also got a pedicure, expecting that this place was going to be great. The pedicure was normal, I didn't receive a lot of direction about where to sit, where to put my purse when to put my feet in etc. and I was disappointed in the massage chair (half the reason I get a pedicure!). Everything was fine, I couldn't understand the woman's English, but she hardly spoke to me anyway, she spoke constantly to the other women there in a foreign language. Then the manicure is when things really went downhill. She wanted me to stay in the pedicure chair while she did my manicure. Fine, no problem except when I had to cross my arms over my chest, repeatedly, for five minutes at a time. It was not comfortable! Clearly she wasn't thinking about me, just the fact that she didn't have to move. She also cut my nails instead of filing them, I worked for two weeks to grow my nails out since as a nursing student you can't have long nails and she cut them super short. When I asked her not to cut them, but maybe file them instead she said yes, okay I cut long... Her definition of long and mine we different. My nails were short, I was annoyed. They weren't even the same length! My pinky nail was long while my ring finger was cut almost to the skin. She did make me pay before putting on polish (smart and standard move) then she layered on the polish but didn't get all the way to the sides. I could have done a better job myself. I gave her a tip only because I feel like you have to tip in those professions but I won't be going back. The only good thing, it was cheaper than other places, just goes to show- you get what you pay for! read more

My favorite neighborhood spot! The staff is nice, they remember you the next time you come in, and it has a true neighborhood atmosphere. You aren't going to a spa. You are going to a less expensive nail place that people regularly go to to get the job done. They are hard working women who do just what you need! I've been going to Lynn off and on for a few years and she always does amazing work. She's quick, clean, accurate and very personable. Even when I don't see her for awhile, she always remembers me. This is the only place where when I get a pedicure and my nails done, they last me longer than a week. I'm an athlete and I'm on my feet a lot and I use my hands all day and her work always looks like new even 2 weeks later! I do pay a little more here, but given that it's McLean and I'm always satisfied - Lynn's work is worth every penny! LOVE!!!! read more

I went to Janet's to get a pedicure. I walked in without wearing a mask. I was offered one, but I declined. There were about three other women there getting their fingernails done. I was the only one getting a pedicure in the long line of pedicure chairs. The last time I went there, the place was full, and I was not wearing a mask and refused the mask they offered me. They had given me a hard time then too, but they came up with a compromise: they wheeled a plexiglass shield around me, and that seemed to satisfy the manager. Today, after the pedicure attendant took off my old nail polish, clipped my nails and filed them, the manager came over to me and asked me why I wasn't wearing a mask. I told her I couldn't - medical exemption, just like the last time. She told me that she accomodated me last time, but not now, and that I would have to leave. I protested, but she wouldn't budge! I got up and left. The other customers there were stunned. I couldn't see their faces because they were masked, but their eybrows were raised in suprise at the callous way the manager treated me. Nevertheless, after calling around to three different salons, I found a salon in Vienna that was willing to accommodate me. And they were $10.00 cheaper for a much better service!! In a way I'm glad things went down this way. I ended up getting a better deal! And Janet's will NEVER get my business! Oh, and I will make sure to tell as many people as I can about the way I was treated. I think I will even call the Board of Nursing and Cosmetology on them and report this unprofessional treatment and lack of accomodations. I do believe that they were in violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act, which comes with a hefty fine for each occurrence. Isn't it $75,000 per occurrence? read more
