I got the jerk chicken with sweet potato fries and Mac and cheese. My husband got fried catfish with onion rings and Mac and cheese. The food was so good and had amazing flavorful. We had to wait over 30 minutes for our food. They offered us shrimp and grits while we waited which was so good. It is spicy so beware if you don't like heat. I'm knocking off 1 star because we had to wait so long for our food and had to ask for water refills and napkins and stuff like that. BUT I will totally come back!! This is definitely in my top 10 favorite restaurants in Tucson. The food is absolutely incredible. My favorite items are the jerk chicken, Jamaican cabbage and banana pudding. The staff is so welcoming and kind and the atmosphere is clean, open and bright. I've been there 4 times so far and have brought different people along each time and they have all loved the food but more than that, they have each commented on how friendly the staff is. Staff was very chatty. While we waited for our food. I noticed an employee making their own food without gloves after she just rang up another customer and placed unwanted items back into the food to later be disbursed. I got the oxtails they were really good. I also got the wings. I hate I left town before I could get back over to try more options

I was really disappointed. The catfish was good but the sides were very small portions. It looked like 1 scoop of potato salad and 1 scoop of macaroni. They were out of alot of options so it wasnt much to order. There should at least be fries or something on the menu at all times for kids. Service could have been better. We waited 30-45 minutes for our food and the waitress never checked in on us after taking our orders. Another waitress came over and started to assist, but we had to call her to the table to get that to happen. A waitress had her phone tucked in the front of her leggings and got a call and answered it, then proceeded to serve drinks/plates. Im sure the phone had body sweat on it so that was a little nasty. We didn't receive a bill so had to ask the waitress how we pay. We were told to go to the register. At the register, the lady asked us" what did we order?" She didnt even know what we ordered to ring us up. I had to tell her our order. I could have turned a $80 meal into $20. That was unprofessional. The staff seemed unorganized. read more

Our first visit to this recently opened Caribbean and Soul Food place. It's in the strip mall at the NW corner of 22nd and Craycroft, so plenty of parking with several handicapped parking spaces right in front. The entire storefront is glass, so lots of natural lighting inside. Combination of regular and high table seating. No menus, but there is a large blackboard with the food and drink choices to your right as you walk in the door. Their wait staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the entrees. We decided to go with the Soul Food options; I ordered the fried catfish, mac and cheese and collard greens, while my spouse ordered the fried chicken, mac and cheese and corn bread. Everything was excellent, but the greens and the corn bread were the biggest hits. The cornbread was very light sweet, and the greens were cooked just right with a ham bone. Wow! We really loved our meal. My husband had the hamburger, which was great, but the fries that came with it were some of the very best we've ever had! They were crispy, not at all oily and had great seasoning on them. My husband didn't even put his usual ketchup on them, they were too good all by themselves. I had the jerk fusion salad which was also out of this world good. The jerk chicken in the salad was so tender and juicy and had a nice heat level. The salad was definitely a meal all by itself. Finishes with a little heat that does your taste buds good. Added the cheese Mac and Cheese to accompany the Jerk Chicken. My kids and I went to Janet & Ray's about a month ago. My daughter (17) had the fried chicken with mac and cheese, my son (3) had the same thing. I had the jerk chicken with mac and cheese and rice and peas. First off, the service was great! Our waitress was very sweet and helpful. Our food came out pretty fast. And Oh My God......so so delicious. I'm very picky about my mac and cheese and it was great. The jerk chicken had the perfect amount of spice and the flavor was great. Both kids loved their fried chicken and sides too. I have been dreaming about coming back and plan to this week to bring my other son, so he can try this amazing place. I love this new restaurant! The jerk chicken is amazing, the mac and cheese is to die for, and I could eat their kale salad all day long. I tasted my husband's surf and turf - a very large hamburger with sautéed shrimp, sautéed onions, 2 kinds of cheese, and a delicious sauce. Had I been hungrier, I would have stolen the rest from him! I highly recommend this restaurant and definitely will be going back. They have a rotating menu so there's reason to go different days. This place was a jumbled mess. It starts with no prices listed next to the entrees on the chalk board. For example, I was shocked that red Kool aid was $4.95. If I knew it was going to be that expensive, I would have ordered something else/went somewhere else. It was a free for all on the tables. The table that was left was sticky and not clean. Once we were sat, the kitchen took a LONG time to deliver the food. (Over 45 minutes). During that time frame, the music went from pleasant to loud and back again as if someone wanted to drown out complaints coming from tables. Additionally, our waters or my $4.95 red Kool-aid was never offered a refill. The meal finally came and it was OK. Definitely not worth the 45 minute wait. Mac and cheese was luke warm.like it sat in the waiting area for a while before it was delivered to our table. Finally, when we were finished, we went to the checkout counter and had to wait for a while as no one was there. When they rang up our meal, I was shocked at the sky high prices of the meal. I could understand those prices if the customer service was good, food was good and the tables were clean. Sadly all of those three things were missed by a long shot. I was really looking forward to a good place close to the AF base that I could turn into a weekly lunch spot. I just moved to Tucson and have tried different Jamaican places. They were okay. I said to myself well I guess this is all I can find in Tucson. Well I came across Janet and Ray's photos online. I said okay let me give it a try for the 3rd time in Tucson. Walked into J&R and was instantly happy with the atmosphere. Ordered the oxtails and cabbage, rice and beans. Omg I was so happy! Excellent, flavorful food. My husband and I have eaten there several times in two weeks and nearly everything was fabulous. The rice and peas were underwhelming, but the fried chicken, fried red snapper, hamburger, curried goat and all of the other side dishes were excellent. The food is amazing 10/10 however I'm not a fan of the work attire it looks like the employees just wake up and show up to work. Workers are often seen with AirPods in, scarfs on their head, open toed shoes, NSFW attire. It really throws it off.
