The chicken bahn mi ($5.95) is delicious and them giving a free pot of tea and glass of water without having to ask for it deserves 4 stars. I gave this review 3 stars for the fact that after drinking two cups of tea... When it came to my 3rd a dead spider was in my cup. It was my first time at this Janbo - I guess the other one on Everett Mall Way is totally different and not at all connected to this one. Good to know! It's super small in this place but they make due with what they have. Not sure what the maximum capacity was but I'd have to say 20 if I were to make some type of guess. The staff here are soooooo friendly and you can see with how they treat their customers as well as remembering all the regulars that came in while we dined. So awesome to see. Again, as all my reviews are - I opted for an appetizer (No, I never claimed to be a foodie or have the stomach of one) I ordered the Salt and Pepper Fried Tofu and ZOOOOOMG! Sooooooo good! I am telling you now, get this and you will not regret it! I could've ordered another helping but decided against it since my eyes were hungrier than my actual tummy. At the end of our meal we got some cream puffs but man oh man - did I underestimate the size of these things.. HUGE! lol. All in all - I'd definitely go back to this place. I think this is the worst restaurant i've ever been to. first off, we waited 40 minutes for the food, other people were served before us, alongside the waiter was rude and very scrambled. The food was outrageously expensive, 12 bucks for 5 wings (was supposed to be six but we only got served five). I asked for just pho broth and noodles, got served just chicken broth, with no noodles. The place was filled with blenders and loud noises. It wasn't even super busy, just understaffed (with bad staff). I don't make it here as often as I hope to, but always have an enjoyable experience. My friend used to live in the neighborhood and is always welcomed back warmly. I love that you get a ton of tea and generous water refills. I appreciate the large variety of condiments on the table. Service is always top notch. The cream puff at the end of the meal is also a nice bonus. I'm now realizing I probably should have asked if I could get mine to go to bring home for my boyfriend who would appreciate the sweat treat. It's always hopping here so clearly others find it enjoyable as well. Parking is plentiful around the building. The menu is extensive and I always have a hard time choosing. I appreciate that they offer pho with vegetarian broth. My new favorite is the salt and peppered tofu. I don't even like jalapenos, but ordered a side of rice to throw the excess on as it was so tasty. It's pictured quit a few times on the yelp page so I am guessing its a favorite of others as well. As soon as I finished the Bun Bo Hue, I posted on Facebook Page this place had the best BBH I have had. True, I haven't had that many BBH, but it's broth was flavorful, the pig knuckles were well done almost melting in the mouth. The pork blood was nicely done, not chalky or gamy. No ox tail, and the beef flank was not tasty. But I like the broth and the noodle so much I am willing to give it a 4. The little joint was busy at 8:30 on a Friday night. The to-go orders were just non stop. I ordered a hot coffee, came when my meal was almost over. So I ordered a cream puff to go with it. I had better cream puffs. But I took the coffee with me. It was a large cup of coffee and they made it delicious. The menu is extensive with many Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. I want to try more. I am willing to drive 25 miles to eat here. read more

Alright, I admit this place was pretty good for what it is. Very small roadside Asian café-like place. Call it the Asian Denny's if you want but way better! It has a very large menu selection of Asian dishes. My family of 11 came for lunch (call ahead for reservations of this size) on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered a variety of dishes and I still felt like we didn't make dent in the options the café offered. All of the dishes tasted pretty good and the servings were extremely generous. The complimentary cream puffs are also nothing like I've ever seen. They're ginormous! For an Asian establishment the service was great. I still love Janbo, however, I feel the food is not the same since Covid in my experience. The take out spring rolls: the wraps were falling apart and the contents spilling out. There is a new latina girl cashier who was not picking up the phone, I kept calling and finally drove to drive thru where I told her the phone is not being answered and she said she forgot to hang it up. The pho gets pretty good in the Puget Sound area, but the pho doesn't get much better than this around here. This place is probably the dawn of a dynasty--looks like a bit of a dump in its current state, but the food and service foretell a bright future, with probably a bigger and better location to come, followed by expansion. It's already been discovered and it can't stay this small forever. What you got right now is a little fast food hut on 99 that's been converted to house a Vietnamese/pan-Indochinese bistro. You park next to the drive-through arrows, you walk in through the gritty aluminum-frame doors that look like they should have height charts marked on them, and you're greeted by a huge smiling buddha statue. The decor is very low-key, probably re-purposed wherever possible. But the smiling, friendly service is right on point, greeting you before you've had a chance to look around the tiny room. The water, tea, and menu are johnny on the spot as soon you're seated, and the place never really seems to slow down after that. I had the house special pho--flank, meatballs, tendon, and brisket. Usually meatballs and tendon are pretty optional for me but the lure of a "house special" proved overwhelming. It doesn't take long before you get a plate of fresh, crisp-looking condiments. There's an extra lime wedge--nice!--and the basil is sharp and pungent (in a good way). And then the tanker of pho trundles out from the kitchen. The teal and rose plate/bowl combo looks like Mervyn's remaindered it in 1986, but it's appealingly wide. The broth is dark but crystal clear, with absolutely crisp aroma devoid of any must or funk whatsoever. The noodles are great, not the least bit clingy or saran-wrap-y, even if you let them sit for a minute while you fuss around with condiments. The meat is perfectly flat and has good color--clearly never frozen. The tendon never gets gelatinous, even without asking for extra jalapenos. It's a perfect bowl of basic meat lover pho. The star of the show is the ridiculously large cream puff. They give you your choice of vanilla or chocolate. They're huge, and they're freshly dusted with powdered sugar, and they're free. Awesome. Be back to this place a ton, even though it's way out of my way. The menu goes on for pages and pages, by the way. This is a real vietnamese restaurant with a full kitchen; not just a pho place. read more

Entering an Asian restaurant I'm always skeptical when there's a bunch of caucasians inside, but don't be fooled! Their specialty noodles are amazing! And very authentic However, the highlight of this place is definitely their Bun Bo Hue. The portion for this is pretty big, and bigger than average places. Their soup is kind of super red and oily but it's not as spicy as it makes it look. The noodles might be on the less side but the veggies and meat in the bowl makes up for the lost noodles. I also tried this crab stew with pork knuckle and pork blood. Something I never tried before, but not my kinda taste so probably will never order again. i had the best bun bo hue i've had on the northside here. the broth was spicy, oily and beefy. it is worth the drive for this bowl. immediately upon seating a glass of water and a pot of tea is delivered. the food arrives at a good pace. the vegetables for the noodle soup are fresh not old and browned. three generous pieces of lime are included instead of a skinny slice of lime at some other establishments. the vietnamese sausage was sliced and grilled. it was nothing special in terms of seasoning. complimentary giant cream puff is available if you wish. wait staff are pleasant and checked on my table twice. i will return to this restaurant. read more

The house special pho is good, ingredients are fresh, except for bean sprouts they're starting to brown at the tips and we did not like the meatballs that came with it. A friend and I often stop here for lunch when we're together--she shared this spot with me, and it's become a favorite of mine as well! The food is great, everything from the noodles to the sandwiches is delicious. We love the cream puffs that come at the end! I also really enjoyed their bubble tea smoothies. I have been going to Janbo for at least 3 years and this place has become a reliable source of excellent Pho. When I moved out of LA, I left my favorite Pho place behind and I was naturally upset and sad. However, when I discovered Janbo cafe right by my work place, I naturally had to try it. I was not disappointed. I have not been disappointed with either portion size or taste. The staff has always been very nice as well. This place can get a bit busy at times so I would highly recommend to call in your order so that you can save time and get to your food faster. I have tried other Pho houses around the area and I have not found a place that keeps bringing me back for more. read more

Ordered takeout today. This was not my first time eating at Janbo but to be perfectly honest the other times were fairly unmemorable. I'd prefer to give 2.5 stars but I'll go ahead and round up due to there being a few redeeming qualities (the main one, not described in this review, being a chicken curry dish I had on a previous visit and did actually remember and enjoy.) We ordered house fried rice (for my girl), chicken pho (mine) and a taro bubble tea w/ tapioca (to share.) The pho was OKAY. They definitely skimped on the chicken. It was also way too onion-y for my taste. The broth was good but lacked the depth of flavor I've come to expect from a good bowl of pho. Overall it satisfied my craving (sorta) but wasn't even in the top 10 (or 20?) bowls of pho I've ever had. OH! It also came with one very small packet of hoisin and one very small packet of sriracha, not even chili oil. Ordering additional was pretty pricey per the menu. The fried rice was similar. Good but not spectacular. Two pieces of shrimp in the whole dish. Eh. The taro bubble tea was one of the WORST I've ever had. It had a sour taste to it and honestly I'm not convinced the milk powder hadn't gone off as now, hours later, my stomach hurts and is making some pretty unattractive sounds. The boba, however, were cooked to perfection and had a nice taste to them. I did not finish the drink. Overall I probably won't be back and I feel that I've had this reaction in the past but never wrote a review to remind myself to stay away. I loved that it came with so many veggies, broccoli, mushrooms, corn, carrots, bok choy and then of course some nice crispy fried tofu squares. Broth, not as comparable to other places we've tried but their broth was flavorful enough. Bowls were good sizes and prices were decent. They got half a star more from us for 2 reasons: 1.) They had other menu items that made this restaurant experience more enjoyable. From bubble tea to Pad Thai. They also serve hot tea when you sit down. 2.) They give you a bonus CREAM PUFF. And this isn't no ordinary Than Bros. cream puff either (check out our pictures included with this review). A cream puff as big as a child's fist is included with your Pho meal. Wow what a great accidental find! After helping my uncle move near this restaurant and having a rough night before I needed pho! I was surprised at how busy they were at 2 PM and almost left. I'm really glad I didn't. We were greeted right away and was able to find a table for 5. They start you off with some yummy oolong tea and take your order. I ordered the fresh spring rolls, Vietnamese fried egg rolls, shrimp vermicelli bowl and brisket pho. All very delicious. I loved the fact they had the dipping fish sauce for my vermicelli already at the table because I always ask for more. Yeah, let me preface by clearly stating I don't eat creampuffs. The meat, toppings, broth were perfection - fresh and fast. again. We had Pho Tai, extra MEAT and Veggie Pho. The amount of veggies made my friends eyes roll back in ecstasy. The sandwiches keep in time with freshness and contents are plentiful. The random decor makes this place even more entertaining, and the bathrooms were spotless. The hot teapot is so welcome on these rainy visits to the great white north. Update: I have been going to this place for a couple of years and have noticed my take out orders have less food than when we eat in. We have been given our sandwiches with no meat and overcharged on more than one occasion. Also, the combo meal is not a true combo meal as you pay more to make it a combo but they give you less meat (which is what you are really ordering)when you get the combo. I visited Saturday and yesterday and noticed a huge difference in the freshness and portions of my meal. Saturday everything was fresh and the portions were large when I ate in. I got my to go order yesterday...the same exact order for the same price and it was smaller. The meat and rice seemed old. It tasted like they put warmed sauce over old rubbery chicken. I had the Mandarin Fried Chicken. I went out of my way to drive there just to get it. I was so disappointed. I took a few bites and could not eat anymore. I got the same for my husband and he said the same thing. A few hours later I started feeling sick and nauseous. I kept having to use the restroom. I am still sick today and can only tolerate broth. Glad my husband has an iron stomach so someone can take care of the kids. So disappointing as I have loved this place and introduced it to so many of my friends.
