Ever since I was hit by a car while bicycling a few years ago, I've had to see a PT/chiropractor every couple of months whenever those injuries start to rear their ugly heads again. I just moved to the island and needed to find a new PT/chiro. I called and was able to get an appointment the same day. Dr. Berman is incredibly friendly and personable. Within minutes, I felt like we were old friends. Also, from my own interactions with her and watching her interactions with others, it's obvious that she genuinely cares about people. It's refreshing. Her office is super relaxing and has a really calming atmosphere. She really knows her stuff and has a wide range of techniques in her arsenal that she deftly used to unravel some of the mysteries that had my back, hip, and knee pain routinely flaring up. One of my reoccurring issues is a snapping/catching in my right hip. This injury, in particular, had stumped some of my past physical therapists. After one session, in which she applied K-Tape along my abductor/IT Band, my hip stopped catching and I was able to start biking and running again without issue. She really is a wizard with the K-Tape. Immediately after the tape was applied, the five knots in my muscle just about disappeared. Before the tape, it felt like there were five distinct high-bounce balls along my abductor; after the tape, the high-bounce balls were gone. Magic! On top of the old injuries, she gave my back and neck an adjustment and, I swear, it felt like she removed tension that I'd been holding in since the 8th grade. I'm pretty sure the building itself probably shook a little bit when it happened, but man, did it feel great. I highly recommend her! read more

Dr. Berman is superb! I found her through Yelp when my fiancé's back seized up to the point that walking was painful and difficult. Dr. Berman went out of her way to fit us in for a same day appointment. She is a talented, intuitive healer who took a lot of time with my fiancé to realign his back, hips, neck, and jaw. He was doing much, much better the next day (I could see a difference in his posture right away) and came in for a follow-up. Now, two days later he is walking upright and looks like a new man. I'm so incredibly thankful for Dr. Berman for taking us in at the last minute and doing incredible work. Dr. Berman is fantastic! I'm a runner and I play tennis, and every once in a while I throw out my sacroiliac joint and need an adjustment. During my first appointment she fixed my sacroiliac joint that I was complaining about, but then proceeded to go way above and beyond and aligned my entire body and worked on my super tight and tough fascia. The next day, I noticed I could do side planks longer without pain on my left side that had been plaguing me for months and it seemed pretty obvious to me that it was because I was finally properly aligned. First, let me say that I don't give 5 star reviews. And I'm not some hippie, I'm a very real factual person. Janaki is a healer. When we sat face to face I just started crying. Her presence is reassuring and comforting which is exactly what I needed after being in so much pain. She will bring the pain out of you and that is as powerful a testament as any. There are plenty of chiropractors In Waikiki, but not experienced like her. Having worked with a number of chiropractors over the years, I've learned to seek out the ones who combine a necessary firmness and strength with what I think of as subtlety: the willingness (and ability, which is partly intuitive) to work with the soft tissue and patiently loosen the muscle structure instead of just cracking. Dr. Berman has both attributes. She's strong, and she is also intuitive, empathetic and patient. I went to her with a nasty sciatic pain, and where other practitioners might have just adjusted my lower spine and sent me home she worked a much broader area, loosening tightened structures that I wasn't aware of. I called Dr. Berman on Thursday with vertigo symptoms. She was able to fit me in as a new patient within 3 hours. After our 1.5 hour consultation and adjustment, my symptoms decreased a bit (which is actually a big deal with vertigo!) And my body felt really good. This was my first ever visit with a chiropractor and wasnt sure what to expect, but was more than impressed. The doctor was very thorough and gentle at the same time, from head to toe. She even found decreased wrist and hand strength due to lack of blood flow which I had no idea about but which made sense due to being on the computer for work all day. As I was leaving my psychs office one day, I turned to the hallway in the elevator and saw that there was a chiropractor on the same floor. Now I've been seriously thinking of making an appointment for one for a few months. So, I yelped. She had amazing reviews, which gave me the confidence to call and set up an initial appointment. I spent the few days anxiously awaiting my appointment, since it was my first time ever seeing a chiropractor- I was very nervous. Will it hurt? Will I need X-rays? Is she going to dowse me in pain medicine? Every negative thought you could possibly imagine had crossed my mind. Then the time came, my appointment. I walked in the door, I felt nervous but strangely at ease. Then she came, and greeted me with the most beautiful smile, my anxiety melted away with her mellow vibes. I filled in the standard paperwork. And she began. Now I've had a "knot" on my right shoulder that severely pained me for over 5 years. With one adjustment, and Dr. Janaki 'falling through' my back.. I smiled. The pain that I had felt so long, was no where to be felt. IT WAS COMPLETELY GONE. She made probably over a hundred other adjustments and used her tools on me.. working for about two hours total. I left feeling like I had a brand new body, smiling & giddy. I guess I smiled and was in such a good mood, that the following week.. she had told me her patient that she had after me my first visit told her "that woman was so giddy and happy, I want what she had".. I laughed with joy for the first time in a very long time. Now, some of the other benefits that I got from the dr, were not your typical benefits you would think. I have struggled with insomnia, major depressive disorder and bi-polar depression for many years now. And after just my 1st visit, (talk about WOW) I've slept with no sleeping medication. Restful, peaceful, beautiful sleep! (Oh! How I've missed you) and I have stabilized in manic and depressive episodes, and now I actually catch myself smiling (something I never thought I would do again). My second visit.. Now I am a chef, so I always have burns somewhere on my body. As she worked on my hands, she noticed a decently bad double burn on my finger.. she immediately put her therapeutic lavender oil on it.. something I had never heard of before for burns.. it almost as soon as she put it on, wasn't red, or irritated, it did not sting at all. I was in disbelief that something so simple fixed everything. I also, a little later on felt my mind and body to suddenly become relaxed.. the smell of the lavender was not like any lavender I smelt before (which usually was a rather stink smell to me, like the fabreeze air freshener lavender and baby powder with lavender) this one was such a beautiful scent, I had to have it. Ok enough rambling on this review. MY MAIN POINT. I truly believe that it was a way of the Buddha that brought me into Dr. Janaki's presence, from finding her suddenly one day. I CANNOT RECOMMEND HER ENOUGH. She turned my life around for the good in just two visits so far, and I believe that things can only get better from here. Her personality is so welcoming and positive. The atmosphere of the space is so relaxing. And she is so in tune to the human body, you DO NOT even need to tell her what is wrong with you (although I'm sure she would like to know) she will find it. Outstanding chiropractor ... I am from Honolulu, but had to go to Chicago for the first three weeks of February 2019!!! Needless to say, being in the freezing cold, ice and snow .... shoveling and working outside in an environment that I am not use to, my upper back, lower back, shoulders, arms and wrists were in sore, bruised and out of adjustment. On my first visit she took extra time to get me adjusted and work on all areas to get me back on my feet. I usually don't write reviews but I felt the need to with this horrible experience. At my first appointment, one of my first questions was do you take HMSA. Janaki responded with yes my patients get reimbursed by HMSA. So I felt at ease and decided to give chiropractic a chance. After my first session, I was told she would charge me the full amount and help me with the reimbursement. Then she told me that she normally does three sessions and then does the reimbursement to HMSA. I thought that was kind of strange but I am a trusting person. After the third session and paying in full she had ME fill out the paperwork for HMSA. Another strange encounter because most places do it for you. She gave me a copy and told me to send it in myself for reimbursement. After a month or so I get a letter from HMSA saying they denied the coverage. I called HMSA and they told me Dr Janiki was not a HMSA participant. I texted her and she reconfirmed she wasn't a participant. She should have told me this from the start which would have been good practice. If she would have not force me to do three sessions I would be down only a $140. So basically I am $400 down and still have the same pain in my neck. I will never go to a chiropractor ever again. I just don't want this to happen to anyone else. I went for my first treatment with Dr. Berman yesterday. I was experiencing severe pain in my jaw joints and really stiff hips. Her techniques were very different from a lot of the other chiropractors I've visited, but the results are amazing! She did an hour of soft tissue work and adjustments. It is now the morning after and my jaw is still sore from being realigned after a decade of issues. Chewing food feels so much more effortless and, while I still take great care not to overdo opening it, my jaw feels so much lighter. My masseter muscles were always tight and in spasm so I am now on the road to resetting the muscle memory of just relaxing. I cannot thank Dr. Berman enough for the tremendous help with such a debilitating issue that none of my other doctors were willing to address. Dr. Berman fit me in super last minute. I emailed the night before and she was able to schedule me the next day. She is really intuitive and aware energywise...I told her my neck, upper to mid back were really tight and lower back was sore and she also found my sore ankle and finger without me saying anything. She spent two hours on me and I walked out feeling like a new person. She also massaged my neck and arms and feet and back and gave me helpful tips on salt baths, the ocean, and frankincense oil. I paid $165 + $35 for a mini bottle of frankincense (gentle add on..no hard sell or pushing which was awesome). And already have a follow up for next week. I tried massage, acupuncture, other chiropractic and this was what made me feel unstuck this time. I love that she's a woman and has a gentle but firm touch. I also loved the quiet time when she stepped out and did this automated lower back stretch thing that lifted my hips up and down. It was really relaxing and nice.
