He focuses on long-term health goals and the safety of the exercises based on science and experience. While training with Charles I regained my confidence and went from 135lbs to 112lbs while gaining lean muscle mass and improving strength, agility, and flexibility. This is not a short-term fix, it is function for life. Stuck with it and you will reap the benefits for years. If you want it done right then call Charles!

He has a…read moreMaster's degree and also teaches a Human Anatomy and Physiology class at KCC, so yes he knows his sh*t. I learned about him through a friend who has trained with Charles for over 2 years, who invited me to trial a couple of classes. I enjoyed the group workouts, usually there are about 4-5 of us. He also trains high school students and middle school students. For about $130/month I got a personal training plan, and 1+ hours training every Saturday and also sometimes on a random weekday as well. He is flexible with scheduling and can probably fit you in a number of group sessions that he runs during the week. Effective? : After training with Charles for 2 months, I can now do 2 pullups (couldn't do 1 before) and shaved my Kokohead climb time from 45 minutes to 26 minutes. i learned how to deadlift with proper form, do a complex, do ladder drills, squat with proper form, headstand. LOTS of metabolic workouts... sometimes this requires heading outside and running around the block. He will push you only to your personal limit. Once something starts to hurt or tighten he will adjust your workout or teach you a stretch to strengthen or stretch the particular muscle. Location: he is located in the self storage in kapahulu. did i find this weird initially? yes, but there are actually a ton of other business that run inside this self storage unit. who knew?? Recommendation: If you resolve to get fit within a group setting, go see Charles and he'll make sure you have a fun and educational time working out. Better yet, bring a friend or two and it will be more fun as you can talk openly during the training session as well as support each other.

Zero. Complete support and encouragement even if I skipped reps that week or only put in 5 literal minutes of training. Since 2019, I followed others on Instagram and noticed a trend of folks posting really cool handstands and that several of them tagged John. Intrigued, in 2021, I finally asked Sean (now Coach Sean) who this mysterious person was. Oh, what I didn't realize was the rabbit hole that handstands are. I've been [very sporadically] attempting to nail my handstand since 2015 and let's just say I had a complete mental block on it, as well as some physical limitations. Other fitness instructors I've had has taken more of a conventional/traditional approach to trying to teach me, but alas, this was not something I could keep up on. I had plateaued and desperately needed someone who could meet me on my level and address very specific issues. Now, is learning to handstand a NEED? I guess not and some people have curiously inquired as to why I'm doing this as a full-fledged adult who presumably will never need this skill in my life (since I'm not a circus artist). Let me tell you my bucket list goal - HANDSTANDS AROUND THE WORLD WHEN I TRAVEL! Yes, I mean it. Who is going to help me get there? JOHN WILL!!! John has extensive knowledge and a depth of understanding of body mechanics and movement intelligence. He's also 500% patient with every single person that joins his trusty crew of awesome movers! I absolutely cannot recommend anyone else other than John to see you through your movement and handstand journey. Other reviews have mentioned how he creates highly personalized and individual programs for each person - this is right. I must confess I work better with only one or two intentions per month so while I blithely throw his program to the wind, I really do still try to "do the homework" and focus on my small steps to progress. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have met John. If you've been waiting for a sign to learn handstands, THIS IS IT so please contact John right away!

That's just 3 sessions in. Other things I improved on in a month's time: -Walking for 60 minutes in 1 setting with no breaks on treadmill. When I started on treadmill at a different gym on June 1st I could only do 3 - 5 minutes then my lower back pain would start and I would have to take a break and sit until my lower back pain went away. At the gym that Bruno trains me at I improved little by little by going 10 minutes at a time...then 15 minutes. I improved up to 60 minutes about a week ago. -I'm able to wear clothing that I didn't used to wear for a long time. And today I went to a size 9 in underwear when I used to wear a size 11 for a long time. My clothing I've worn forever is looser on me. -My arms and legs are looking more defined -My friends and family are noticing the changes in my body. BUT in one of my rabbit-hole spiraling moments in the first week of June, I found Mkg8nz on Yelp not realizing he was about to change my POV and fitness mentality for me. Zeke is a very skillful, intelligent and intentional trainer. He does all the thinking for you and all you have to do is show up for yourself every single day. He changed my perspective of gyms being absolutely terrifying and intimidating when you are out of shape and/ or overweight. Truthfully, the hardest part for me was showing up that first day being a total newb in strength training. And it helps SO MUCH when your trainer is fun and keeps things lighthearted to see if you're listening. He started me off with training three times a week and a strict calorie deficit regiment for the first month. He is really good at reading his client's needs and is very intentional in his training methodology. Now after helping me lose 7 lbs, gain a new perspective on strength training and mental clarity, you don't notice it, but the fat just melts off on its own and your clothes start fitting so much better. Once again, all you have to do is SHOW UP for yourself! The rest will follow. I am so grateful for all the muscle aches, sweat and tears these past four months and I can confidently recommend Mkg8nz to any guy or gal looking to take your fitness journey to the next level. Zeke is down to earth, knows what he's talking about and knows what he's doing in the gym. You can see that as soon as you meet him. He is quite caring and an observant trainer. He encourages you at the exact moment right before you're about to give up. He will literally remind you why you started in the first place.
