I was at home on a Sunday afternoon, lying on the couch, procrastinating while watching TV, deciding whether or not to go to hit the gym that day. All of a sudden, this totally ripped, super cool looking Japanese guy appeared on this Spy Series television show, and I got immediately inspired and decided at that exact moment that I needed to stop procrastinating and get off the couch and go work out. I left the house and walked to the gym. I took the escalator up and as I got off at the top, I literally bumped into this totally ripped, super cool looking Japanese guy and realized that it was the same guy I had just seen on TV ! We have been friends ever since, and Bill has been my exclusive trainer since then. What I love about being trained by Bill is that he knows the importance of incorporating NEW things into your workout realm every few months. It has set the bar high for me every year of the thirteen that I have been blessed to call Bill my friend and Trainer. Bill was the first person I recall to ever say the words"kettle-bell" in Hawaii ! I am so grateful to him for always re-callibrating my whole program and way of thinking every few months since I started training under him. It keeps things from getting stale and routine and well... boring ! The body and brain really only respond and change when we give them new and challenging things to do, and in my opinion, no one teaches those principles while incorporating that theory through fresh and challenging training sessions better than Bil Maeda. Here we are all these years later, and Bill i s still inspiring me, as he did that day on TV, to get off that couch and get a great workout in every day !

My first question to him was, "How can you have worked out the with same trainer for 3 years and not be bored?" My personal history is riddled with workout regimens that have come and gone because, in the end, they just get boring. Bill has kept things fresh for two years, with the goal of making me "unbreakable" -- strong and injury-free. We started with foundational exercises (push-ups, pull-ups, planks, step-ups, lunges, twisting core exercises, etc.) to make sure that I had a solid base of strength before moving on to more dynamic movements and heavier weights. At every step of the way, Bill focused on teaching strict form for every exercise. I share his belief that maintaining good form, with light or heavy weights, ensures that one gets the most out of every exercise and avoids injury. In the last two years, Bill has mixed in kettlebells (thruster, long cycle, snatch), traditional power lifting (squat, bench, deadlift), punching & kicking, sandbags, weighted swinging clubs, body weight movements, and a variety of isometric exercises. I participate in a variety of other sports and events (soccer, triathlons, obstacle races, endurance events), and Bill designs my workouts to help me prepare specifically for them.

When I came to Alyssa, she assured me that the burn out, overwhelm, and extreme mental and emotional discomfort I was feeling were real, valid, and normal considering everything I'd been through pre-concussion. Having someone who truly sees you through a painful time was life-changing, and the tools, skills, and mindset shifts she taught me have transformed how I relate to my symptoms and body. Thank you, Alyssa, for teaching me so much in such a short amount of time so I could truly start to regulate my nervous system and take care of myself with real tools and loving clarity.

I had already done a lot of of concussion rehab but that plus my perfectionist overachiever personality had pushed my nervous system too far. My symptoms were still severely limiting my life. Alyssa was amazing in meeting me where I was at and I've grown so much through my coaching with her. She has such a calm, inviting presence, even online it shines through. The vision drills have helped my eyes calm down and I'm even able to start driving some. We worked through some chronic pain in my foot to slowly build up to me being able to walk my son to school! Alyssa is a great listener and I find our sessions are so fun because we are uncovering another layer to work on! Her calm and gentle approach to vision and vestibular exercises is the perfect speed for my nervous system. Slowly, week by week we are expanding my world and I continue to learn more about myself. She is super professional and empathetic and a genuine wonderful human being.

I've continued attending group classes because working out has sort of become a habit, and regardless how I feel before class, I always leave the gym with a blank slate. Bad day? Go to the gym. Mentally exhausted? Go to the gym. Deciding whether to send that angry email? Go to the gym. The coaches are super chill and fun, as are the members. There's a program for every body and for every goal. My weight has not changed by much but my clothes are fitting a lot better than they did a year ago and I am stronger. Sometimes the coaches nudge me to take heavier weights but I like to "pace myself" haha! Parado Power is a clean (everyone wipes down their equipment) and bright and well-ventilated gym in a convenient location. Parking is plentiful (for the most part, depending on the time) and free with validation. Towels are provided and the water dispenser was upgraded not too long ago. First class is free; visit the website and sign up for a spot in group class!

From day one, he has gone above and beyond to ensure her physical well-being, performance, and confidence are top priorities. His expertise, dedication, and genuine concern for her success have been clear in every session. It's rare to find someone who combines technical skill with such compassion and encouragement. We trust him completely, and without a doubt, believe he is the best in the field. Our daughter has grown stronger--not just physically, but mentally--thanks to his guidance, and we can't thank him enough for the impact he's had on her journey.
