Before even getting to the office, I was slightly confused on the address and what floor to go to, so I called and the guy that answered the phone gave me attitude and just read back the address number to me. I know what number it is, but I needed clarification on whether or not it was the 26th floor or the 2nd floor. You don't have to be rude. Try being more patient with people. During the guasha/cupping, the guy doing the procedure spat a lot while he was talking so his saliva kept getting on me. Cost was low, so that's good. Plus my shoulder feels a lot better, I have no pain. Had some follow up; I was short $60 from the initial deposit and it was about a week. Had to contact the owner and he gave me attitude again, saying that there's a fee. Like ok? It's a deposit, so it should fall off/be refunded. He claims that he can only refund $50 out of the $60 because there are "fees" to booking online. I'm sorry, that wasn't disclosed on the website, and had I known that ahead of time, I probably would've just set up my appointment through the phone. Overall, not sure if I would come back. Good prices, and definitely worth trying out if you wanted to try acupuncture. But I just wish the owner didn't have as much attitude and focused on improving the customer service aspect. read more

Thank you to my bestie for treating me to my first experience with acupuncture. I am now hooked. After a few injuries over the years I have been living with various chronic pains, from a fractured shoulder and foot to back problems, sinus issues and sciatica. I have been to specialists and therapist. I have tried herbal supplements and prescribed medications and still couldn't find relief. That was until I was introduced to my new favorite person (sorry hubby, lol) my acupuncturist Marc. After only my first visit I felt immediate relief from my hip pain that I've had for years! I couldn't believe it! I even had relief of my neck and shoulder pain after my second visit. Today was my third session and I began to feel relief of my sciatica and plantar fasciitis. Acupuncture Arts is located downtown in the Finance Factors building on the 12th floor. Marc will validate your parking if you park in the parking lot of 1188 Bishop st. during the week and parking is free on the weekends. The waiting room is very serene and has a way of making you feel so calm and peaceful. Before going in to the treatment room you will have to remove your slippers/shoes. Each session last 30-45 minutes. You will lay face up or down, depending on your treatment area, on a massage table. After the needles and cups (if you choose) are applied the lights are dimmed and the familiar sound of waves are played on a sound machine. Marc comes to check on you about half way through your session to make sure you're comfortable. At the end of the treatment after the needles/cups are removed Marc applies herbs to the treatment areas. The whole process from beginning to end is a wonderful experience and totally worth any slight discomfort from the initial poke of the needles. Nows its even better - started getting runny nose as its gotten into the cooler months so asked if dr mark could address this, in addition to the other issues the treatments help with. Sure enough, he was able to add a couple additional points at the base of each nostril. (though, ouch...these sting so have to be sure to use my icepack to numb area first; this helps plenty plenty plenty!) After two sessions, runny nose decreased 2/3rds. Tried skipping the base of nose spots this past session though, to avoid the extra sting but runny nose came back. So I'll probably alternate every-other session and this'll be sufficient. I have a lot going on and was really excited to try acupuncture after doing some research. First impression, the place looked cute. A woman was sitting there waiting and directed me to the door bell they have. We both assumed with the bell being rung twice someone would quickly come to assist us. After 10 mins a lady came, quietly said hello and went to the back of the office. The woman beside me left and decided to leave them a voicemail requesting an appointment. I saw the lady that went to the back 3 times. Not once did she offer to help me out or get my physician for me. After 40mins of waiting I decided to walk to the back of the office. I popped my head in an office and asked how long I'd have to wait. It just so happened that was my physician, Marc. He quickly started by saying they just checked the lobby 15 mins ago and I wasn't there. I listened to him continue to make an excuse. So I told him how I saw his colleague 3 times and she new I was waiting for him. Anyways, after that the vibe was already ruined. Even at the end when he again apologized for the wait in front the colleague. Still with his excuse, I quickly looked at the lady and mentioned how I saw her 3 times. She just sat there with her hand on her head, playing with her phone. Horrible customer service. Not to mention the high parking fee of $25 for my long wait plus treatment time. Updated Response: I was trying not to be too harsh. I finally read the response from Marc when I was about to review the new place and felt inclined to be less vague. See past review and his response. 1) I'm pretty sure HIPAA does not let you share people's medical info online. Glad his statements were not accurate about my issues. If these were from his notes then that explains why my experience was so terrible. 2) While my first experience was very helpful. Every session after was not. The last one was the worst such that though I pre-paid for future sessions I did not go back. 3) His excuse for how much pain I was in after was sexist. After speaking with my former acupuncturist, it was explain that he would either have to have lied to me or made a mistake in treatment. 4) Found an amazing replacement at Chinese Acupuncture and Herb. He got a thorough history, is treating the underlying issues not symptoms and my body has finally started to heal not just feel better for a little bit. read more

I've had acupuncture from a number of different practitioners, in Honolulu, Toronto, and New York, and Marc is among the best I've experienced. He's very good at considering your whole situation in terms of yin/yang and 5 Phases diagnosis, so he's not treating the symptoms, but their underlying causes. I've been getting treatments from Marc from the time that he was at the student clinic at the Institute for Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, a few blocks from his new offices. I just had my first treatment in his new space when I was back in Honolulu recently, and it was terrific - probably the nicest treatment space (in terms of being clean and quiet) that I've been to in town, and we had a good session. Another great thing about his new clinic is that he's working with an herbalist with decades of experience, so together they can prescribe very sophisticated formulae. Highly recommended. I had a great experience at Marc's clinic. It was my first time for acupuncture and I was coming in for a general tune up. I have a 2 year old and keep catching colds and generally was feeling a little less healthy. After three treatment sessions I have been feeling better. Sleeping better, less generalized aches and pains and despite my wife coming down with a cold I didn't catch the bug! One thing I noticed was that I was very sleepy in the evening after the treatments and after the first one I had vivid dreams. It felt good to catch up on my rest. First of all, I came to your office because you were highly recommended by my friend who was your patient & not because I bought a Groupon. I didn't do the 3 treatments as you mentioned in your comment. After the 1st visit, I did return for 2nd one which was way better but because I was already traumatized from the 1st visit, I was still anxious during the 2nd visit. I've decided to take a lost & not return for the 3rd visit. You claimed that you offered free treatments but that's not true. You DID NOT offer any free treatments at all. You apologized & that's about it. Unfortunately, you can never redo a first impression. I came in as a new patient with high expectations because you were highly recommended & your Yelp had good reviews. And to have that kind of 1st visit experience was totally unacceptable. I think that your patients should be a priority over any mportant business calls. You could've put them on hold or called them back instead of leaving me in that dark & cold room for 1-1/2 hr. I yelled & banged the walls to get anybody's attention but nobody came in. I'm claustrophobic which made it even worse. Your patients deserves a 100% from your no matter what time of the day they come. Are you saying that your last patients may or may not get good service depending on how long your day goes? Maybe you should schedule less patient so you can have time to do your "important business calls". I'm sorry that this negative review might affect your business but I feel that people out there should know what I went through.
