I rately make Yelp reviews, and even more rarely write any 1-Star reviews, but Dr. Smith & his scheduler (Star) are so extremely unprofessional that I felt compelled to warn others. As I'm a U.S. veteran with service-connected injuries, Dr. Smith was my chiropractor & I also went to his clinic for massage therapy - both services provided by the VA on an outpatient basis. I was surprised when Dr. Smith stated that he could bill my VA authorization for chiropractic under the VA authorization for massage therapy, which has its own VA authorization to receive services under. Not only does this appear to be fraudulent (ie. insurance fraud), but I have had a very difficult time trying to reach him re: the important matter of insurance authorization for services - unreal! Finally, as I'm in severe pain, I had to have the VA try to reach his clinic and when they did and spoke w/his scheduler (Star), she lied to the VA stating that I was a difficult client to schedule without any evidence - what?! When I confronted Star on this, she simply terminated my services and the clinic has done this to other clients (and other veterans) who have confronted them on their questionable practices that are either not ethical, legal, or are downright unprofessional. In addition to this, Dr. Smith is a terrible chiropractor and I wished I hadn't switched from my last one but I was lazy and Dr. Smith was in walking distance. The 3 masseuses he employs from Japan - only one is so so but the other two are no good and frankly, there are much better massage places. The clinic's advertising also seems misleading bc when I went there in person for the first time all there is is a tiny makeshift room at the end of a long hallway that serves as an all-purpose room for chiro, massage, etc. Plus they have this creepy camera in the room where I can't help but wonder if I'm being filmed when I'm undressing and getting on the table. The clinic might continue to feed off of tourists who are not around long enough or are local clients to discover these serious concerns with Dr. Smith & his makeshift 'clinic', but there are just too many serious concerns with their business practices. In Waikiki and surrounding area there are also better options for true quality services with talented staff with Aloha where there is no possibility of insurance fraud, no creepy cameras, and where I feel respected as a long-term client. At any rate, my only consolation is that I didn't have to pay out-of-pocket for the crappy services at Dr. Smith's 'clinic' although I always tipped generously after my massages more out of respect for his masseuses who try their best. read more

After a long 6 hour flight from LA, I had the worst pinched nerve in my back. My boyfriend and I were visiting for a week and by the 2nd night, I was only able to sleep for maybe an hour or two. Woke up Saturday morning on a mission to find any chiro that would take me.. little did I know that it was going to be a lot harder than I thought. Most places did not accept walk-ins or they were not open on the weekends. Quite frankly, I'm glad they were closed or not taking walk ins or else I would not have gotten a chance to meet Dr, Smith! Dr Charles Smith rescheduled an appointment without calling me to explain why. I tried reaching him by phone, but he would not return a phone call after I left four messages to try to reschedule to a time that would work for me.  Prior to that, we had no upsets between us. This is a total mystery to me. This is very unprofessional. I wish he was braver and would pick up a phone to call to me and explain what's going on.  I have been in pain now for 2 weeks. I don't feel that leaving anymore voice messages is going to help. Maybe if someone does go to him, they can ask him why he could not return a phone call. read more

I have been in so much pain for nearly 6 months. In the beginning I assumed I just slept on my back wrong or "tweaked" a muscle. When I went to the Doctor they just gave me muscle relaxers and "prescribed" me a You Tube video for some stretches. I followed this pattern for about 5 months with none to minimal improvement. Charlie Smith is a great chiropractor, no doubt about it. He's also increasingly mentally unstable, apparently in an unhappy marriage, and allowing his personal problems to now spill over onto his patients. While being an otherwise satisfied patient of his for several years, he went crazy on two separate occasions, suddenly blowing up my phone with bizarre ranting texts that honestly sounded like someone on drugs. (I have screenshots of all the texts.) Mind you, we never texted socially - only to make or confirm appointments. After the first incident, he apologized and said he was going through personal problems at the time. I gave him a second chance, then awhile later it happened again, much worse than the first time. I did ask if everything was ok, or if he wanted to talk about anything, but the rants continued like a schizophrenic homeless person shouting into the wind. I finally had to block his number on my phone. This is a guy who's line of work puts you in adjustment positions where he can literally snap your neck if he feels like it. There's no way I'm putting myself in that vulnerable spot with someone proven to be unhinged and apparently getting worse now. Visit him at your own risk! read more

I've had a subtle lower back pain that persisted for a few weeks, so I open yelp thankfully to find this little hidden gem. I inquired about an appointment over the weekend, and Dr. Smith returns my call right on Monday. He was able to take me in the next morning which was great. This place is conveniently located in Waikiki with parking accommodation upon checking in. Dr. Smith is located in a small room but he has you fill out some paperwork before getting started. The session itself took only 30 minutes and he was right on time. First I laid out on this infra red technique bed that massaged my body for 10 minutes, it wasn't painful for me at least and I enjoyed it. He then put me on a vertical bed that laid flat so that he could adjust my lower back. I personally enjoy adjustments aka cracking! For some reason it's just so relieving and satisfying at the same time, it could be the sound it makes that makes me enjoy it.. weird I know! Anywho, it's difficult to say that the pain in my lower back is completely healed, because I understand it is or can be a lengthy process. It is still day one so we'll see how it goes from there. All throughout my visit, Dr. Smith made sure I was comfortable, well informed about what might be the cause of pain, and very easy-going/personable. Some of you may be wondering what the cost is like, but it's hard to say when it's depends on the kind of treatment you're getting. He was open to billing my insurance, and the amount I paid in full could be applied towards my next visit if it was fully covered. In no way, shape or form do I think he is doing this to rob you is what I'm trying to say.. He is very passionate about his work and is very reasonable all around. I tried here for the first time last week and had an amazing result just for one visit! I found this clinic from HMSA list so Yes, they do accept insurance. The first visit would be $69 without insurance and 2nd visit and after is going to be $35 but if you have an insurance it would be only copayment which was $10 for me. Either way I think it's pretty affordable so sounded like they take care of lots of tourists on vacation here also. Their office was small and procedure was pretty simple and quick. That's another a huge plus for me because time is precious for us! They have a special massage machine which Dr. called "The massage machine, like Mercedes!" made with jade stones and they roll up and down your entire body. It made me feel great and I was telling myself I would come back here only for this massage regardless his treatment was good or worse. It was about 10 min massage and he even left the office and left me alone to give me some privacy. After that he gave me adjustment of my whole body and I heard a lot of cracks!!! Unlike the ones I have tried before it was something I could tell the result right away in one visit. I was actually felt so sick the day before and I thought I might have caught a cold but I guess my body just needed an adequate adjustment since afterwards I felt so good and went on some shopping for 3 hours :) Thanks, Dr. you fixed my problems and I ended up spending some $$ at Victoria's Secret and Sephora...lol I would definitely come back and recommend to you all. read more

This guy saved my vacation!! Half way thru my Hawaiian vacation my back went out, probably from jumping off the rocks at Waimea Bay. I looked for a chiropractor in the Waikiki beach area, near my hotel. Found Dr. Smith conveniently located 3 blocks away from my hotel. He has a very good attitude, good personality and he sure knows what he is doing. After the first visit, the pain subsided and I was able to walk better. I've gone for 4 treatments at the Smith Wellness Center, and scheduled for tomorrow. I found the business through the American Chiropractor Association, and happy that it is located in Waikiki which is great because there is parking of bus stop and routes for joggers or bicycling so I have different commute options. It's a comfortable learning experience for me because Dr Smith is informative for your comfort and understanding of his background and techniques. To warm up at the same time relax, he offers you the jade bed option where you can be left in peace for the initial 10 minutes. If you know what you want let him know. If not he'll suggest options after evaluating your condition. I was able to try the full activator treatment at one visit and other methods on different visits. I definitely like the combo treatment which I would now request with each visit since I like the all around optimal benefit to adjust my spine where needed I feel better circulation and movement. I learned if I have sore muscles there is something for that too I would like to try it the next time that I have soreness from physical training. For now I get achy back because of bad posture that is inevitable from working long hours or different activities so I come in for routine adjustments. Dr. Smith is an excellent Chiropractor! My hubby (Shane) and I have been going to him since 2013. Shane needed a fixing cuz he fell off of a ladder at work and his back was killing him for months! We found Dr. Smith on Groupon I believe and I was pregnant at the time. I was afraid of getting the alignment during pregnancy so I didn't do it, but he generously let me experience his fantastic massage beds! We Love them! Since then we recommend friends and especially family to visit him and they absolutely Love his work as well! He aligned my wrist twice now and both times were instant relief. Turns out I have weak wrists, and more so after pregnancy from when muscles being relaxed during pregnancy my thumb would pop out and since then it never went back to normal. Not too sure how things work around here. I called but got an answering service. No worries, it's right next door, I'll walk over and check. No receptionist to help, just someone by the elevator saying, "Just have a seat in those chairs and he will come out to get you." This is where it does not pay to look local. There were 4 Caucasian people who were helped and not once was I asked if I needed help. I made eye contact with the guy and I thought he would have asked me if I needed something but he chose to engage,what I believed to be a know client since he called her by her first name, someone else. No worries, I'm on vacation and I can wait. I figured after he had attended to her he would then ask me if I needed something, nope. He walked her out and then closed his door. As I walked up to knock on the door another fella beat me to it. Still, no acknowledgement that I was there. I'm not the smallest guy in the world but I do however look like local to these parts. Can't give you any reviews on the treatments but as for customer service, it gets a thumbs down. I think it's obvious that folks with no luggage sitting in the quasi waiting room are there to see the chiropractor. Even if I didn't have an appointment you could have offered me one. I've had back problems for 25 Years. Been seeing a chiropractor for about 15, but have lived in 3 different States. Chiropractors are like barbers you have to go to the same one consistently. Doc is very easy and flexible with his availability which is another huge plus. He's also been good to me on short notice on occasion's of my hips been out of whack. Friendly and professional. I have been seeing Dr. Smith 2-4 times a month for 3 months. I have fairly complicated issues with my back and neck which have been improving with his help. I like Dr. Smith's treatment techniques of massage, stretching and adjustment. I appreciate the fact that, while basic, my sessions take only about 15 minutes and I rarely have to wait. Dr. Smith has very reasonable rates (military discount) and is SUPER flexible with his schedule. On short notice, he will schedule or change an appointment with no complaint. Unlike most other chiropractors, he does not pressure you to come more often than you want or need to. His office is at a great location (in Waikiki) and free parking is available.
