I have chronic pain that dates back..well...a LONG time ago and Dr. Iseke takes the time to use all the equipment at hand to help me deal with my neck, hips and back always being out of whack. Chiropractic absolutely keeps me from going on pain pills. When I come in with an "extra" pain, Dr. Iseke takes the time to work on that as well. I would give Dr. Bell 10 stars if I could! On April 3, 2013 I fell over 200 feet from Olomana's third peak. I smashed my body from head to toe, had multiple herniations, lacerations, ruptures, broken bones and torn ligaments. I was skeptical of all forms of medicine because I did not want to be a disassociated zombie hopped up on painkillers and didn't want to rely on masking my pain with synthetics. I chose to suffer in agony for years until a friend who had a prior spinal injury recommended that I find a local doctor who performs spinal decompression therapy. Did I take his advice? Nope, I stubbornly sought Groupon chiropractors and massage therapists who through no fault of their own progressively worsened my condition to the point where my limited mobility evolved into no mobility and excruciating pain no matter how hard each professional attempted to help me. I finally relented after several years of horrible quality of life and sought spinal decompression. I was unemployed due to my severe disability and had little to no income. My healthcare provider, the VA, under Obama (who I voted for) was atrocious and provided no coverage for alternative treatments. I scraped up a few dollars and began visiting doctors in Honolulu who performed spinal decompression. The first two doctors who I visited cruelly turned me away from their "free" consultations when they learned I was broke though my body was broken, and one even lamented that I wasted his time & made him late to tee time at his country club. Those doctors wanted to charge me upwards of $350 - $500 just to treat me the first time!! That's pilau. I finally located Spinal Dynamics Hawaii online and decided to give it an honest try. Dr. Bell immediately made me feel welcome, his energy and presence is full of aloha as well as respect. I wish I had gone to him sooner. Dr. Bell has all of the state-of-the-art traction tables and decades of experience as the other practices but with none of the ego or coldness. I felt 50% better after just one session and Doc asked me to return for my second treatment the following week so that my body would respond favorably. I informed Dr. Bell that I was broke and wouldn't have the means to return for another month. That was unacceptable to Doc and he was generous to book me for my follow-up visit on his tab. I wanted to cry when I heard him extend his aloha. I've been to a few chiropractors in Honolulu, and they all seemed to be the same. They make my neck and back crack and pop, then ask me for my first born as payment for the next few sessions. The pain and discomfort in my back and neck would never change, and my wallet would just get lighter. Then I went to Dr. Bell, and after the first session I felt so much better. Contrary to some of the reviews I did not feel comfortable at all with Dr. Bell or his practice. Dr. Bell is condescending in tone and makes judgemental comments and put downs. This is not a healing atmosphere for me. I found Dr. Bell's chiropractic skills lacking and I understood that he has a poor understanding of the body's mechanics. His Chiropractic method is a watered down diversified technique and some massage with "biofreeze" gel. read more

We were recommend by another chiropractor. He was good but he did not have the required traction table to help my daughter. My daughter was diagnosed with 2 bulging disc L4 and L5 and has had chronic pain. The regular doctor has done physical therapy, steroid shot and needle therapy with little success. Well Spinal Dynamics did the trick. Dr. Gray was able to relive the pain for a little while but he also gave great suggestions to help the back heal and relieve the pain after the session wore off. Dr. Gary himself was great. I went to him 10 years ago for my back problems and he really made the pain go from 10 to 0 in just one or two sessions. The reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because my insurance changed and when I called to make a appointment, the receptionist told me it would be $30 copay with my insurance. I thought it was little too expensive so I called my insurance to double check and for sure, the copay was only $15. When I called back to confirm this, receptionist told me that the reason they charge $30 was because my insurance doesn't pay enough to cover. I was like huh??? So they charge the patients double the copay amount? That makes no sense. I would double check with your insurance how much your copay is before going there just in case. My ONLY hesitation in writing this review is that I don't want Dr. Bell to get so popular that he becomes tooooo busy to fit in his regular patients :). Yes, he is THAT good. Dr. Bell is amazing. You couldn't find a sweeter, more caring wellness provider anywhere. He is one of that rare breed of health care professionals who actually care about the patient. He takes time to listen; he doesn't shame you or lecture you (let's face it, some of us got where we are physically because of our own poor choices, but he's willing to let that go and just help you feel better); he works with you as an individual, not a one-size-fits-all case. Yes, he's nice, but is he effective? You betcha! This guy knows his stuff, and when it comes to your particular situation, Dr. Bell is like a blue tick hound, relentless in the hunt for that magic combination of treatment modalities that will make you feel oh, so much better. In my case, for example, he had to get my extremely tight, athletic back muscles relaxed before he could begin manipulating my spine. Some chiropractors would just start twisting and pulling and cracking, which can be pretty nerve-wracking, not to mention painful. Dr. Bell is different. He has a whole bag of tricks to choose from, and if your body is not ready for it, he's not going to push. Don't ask me to list them, because I'm not the doctor, and I don't want to steer you wrong. Just go see Dr. Bell. His goal is to get you back on your feet and bring your pain to manageable levels so you DON'T have to keep coming back every week. What a concept! In my case, I was feeling MUCH better after just a few visits, and now I go back maybe once a month, at my choosing. Oh, and snaps for the office staff. His receptionists are polite and efficient. Thy validate your parking if you park in their building, and they will FILE YOUR INSURANCE. Yes, Happy Dance. My HMSA policy covers chiropractic! He also handles auto accident treatments and will file directly with your insurer once they approve your coverage. My only regret is that I did NOT find Dr. Bell three years ago, when I was in excruciating pain, and wound up seeing another Chiropractor here in Honolulu on the recommendation of a friend. That little trip down the rabbit hole of "Chiropractors to avoid" cost me about $3000 over a six month period due to the fear tactics the guy used to get me on his "monthly treatment plan." Dr. Bell is awesome, nice guy, and very easy going. Came to yelp in search of a new chiro and decided to give Dr. Bell a try because of all the great reviews. Needless to say, it was the best decision I have made regarding my health in my life. Let me tell you why...I had recently pulled my back a couple times in the last couple years in the gym but the second time around I had a nagging feeling in my tailbone area, right side. I was seeing another chiro who just kept doing the "same old same old" despite a few months of complaining about it. After 4 or 5 visits with Dr. Bell he immediately knew something else was wrong. Within the 2nd visit he had me get xrays which came back with a bulging disc and thinning L4-L5. But by now I was experiencing excrutiating sciatic pains down my right leg - I could barely handle a 5 minute drive (not joking). I was in immense pain. Dr. Bell then sent me to get an MRI and to see a Pain Management Dr. with recommendations for Rx to ease the pain. I had never been in so much pain, so constantly in my entire life. MRI came back and on top of the disc issues the Pain Management Dr. was able to diagnose me with a perineural cyst AKA Tarlov Cyst disease. Basically a growing cyst on my spinal nerve that's pushing down on my sciatic nerve in the sacral region. Since then I've received pain management care that has improved my life and I will subsequently need to get work done on the cyst before it erodes my bones in the area (yikes!). Without Dr. Bell I would have never discovered this and I would probably still be in incredible, constant pain that has had me laid out on my back for days on end so bad that I couldn't walk down the hall without having to lay down immediately and recoup for 15 minutes. I am so grateful for Dr. Bell's care that I can't express how thankful I am. I always left his office feeling so much better for a few hours or for a day later and for anyone with chronic pain you know how valuable those windows of lessened pain are. His office staff is also very nice, I particularly like Mary who I normally see in the afternoons. Rose is also very nice but I only saw her once so far. I'll be back to see Dr. Bell after I get more info if my spine can handle adjustments. I can't recommend him enough to anyone who's looking for a chiro. read more

Dr. Bell is an amazing chiropractor. I've been having some unusual discomfort on my right leg and right shoulder areas. I used to receive frequent chiropractic care in the past and felt great because of it but for a bunch of reasons I have not received regular care in over 6 months. Dr. Bell got me in quickly into his schedule. His adjustments were quick and gentle. He also used some special cremes that helped loosen some tight areas. While he was doing his adjustments, he spent time to go over my daily routine to give me pointers and advice on how to increase exercise in my life. He gave me some great pointers. He is like a primary care physician, he's very knowledgable many health conditions and he can give some great advice on how to improve them. And coupled with his knowledge is he fact that he's a genuinely nice guy who really cares about people. Go see Dr. Bell if you're looking for an exceptional chiropractor and health coach! read more

Unfortunately, it was a good chiropractic session until he smacked my butt while I laid on the table. I called later on to tell the receptionist why I wouldn't be going back, and was told that she "didn't see that happening" and essentially didn't believe me. Never got a call from the doctor apologizing, which part of me expected. Very unfortunate that women have to be so on guard in situations like this, and unfortunate that he didn't respect his position and professionalism. read more

I was experiencing some (minor) lower back pain and always wanted to see a chiropractor. Of course, I started my search with Google and chose to set up an appointment with Dr. Bell because it was about a 5 minute drive from my house and he accepted my health insurance. I'm glad I went! I found out I have scoliosis in my lower back and a degenerating disc. Dr. Bell advised me not to do any heavy lifting squats or any sort of exercise that compresses my back...boy did I have to cut back a lot on my exercise regime! But I'm glad I did. It forced me to look into other types of exercises, focus more on stretching and gave me a more holistic perspective on my well-being. Any time I have questions about what sorts of exercises I can or can't do, Dr. Bell is always very helpful and knowledgeable. He also gave me these little "tips and tricks" to help my spine: raise my computer screen at work, invest in a neck support pillow, a memory foam topper etc. I've never slept so well ever! And it's amazing how the tiniest things can really help. Dr. Bell is very gentle, has a bunch of cool "toys" that apparently a lot of other chiropractors don't, and he's very attentive to his patients. He listens pretty well and it seems like he truly cares about my health and well-being. I got a massage from Danica who works out of his office and she was great. She asked me how I was feeling that day, knew about my diagnosis and the areas I experience the most pain in (which indicated that she spoke to Dr. Bell or at least was able to do a little research about me before my appointment, which I think is a huge plus). She asked if there was a certain area I wanted to focus on. I like that she gave me enough instructions and communicated enough for me to know what to expect. It was very relaxing! read more

Thanks to Dr Bell for helping me with my sore back. I feel much better. He is genuinely caring and listens and has very kind eyes, that made me feel at ease. His technique is gentle and takes his time relaxing you and your muscles first before the actual adjustment. He put these gentle muscle pulser thingies on my back and shoulders. He even gave me a blanket :-) after about 15min of relaxing, he massaged my back and neck, then he gently adjusted me. He's so smart and really one of the most excellent chiropractors in Honolulu. My experience with chiropractors were not very pleasant therefore avoided going to any. However I had a vertigo condition that would not stop for weeks. Someone suggested going to a chiropractor to "adjust" me and that could be the problem. In desperation, I looked into Yelp for reviews. Dr. Bell's reviews were very positive hence made the appointment. The office staff were quick to return my call and schedule me. I was pleasantly surprised to meet Dr. Bell. He had this calming smile and explanation that he will not "twist" my neck. He explained the possibilities of why I am having my vertigo & also he made me aware whats causing my lowering back pain. For my vertigo, he suggested that it could be due to my clenching my teeth at night & my TMJ. Dr. Bell used this laser treatment which helped after a few treatments. I am very active and exercise (boot camp) and bodyboard. My neck went out on me last week with a muscle strain in my traps and shoulder. It pulled my neck out of allignment and had a pinched nerve with lots of pain on my right side. I went to Dr. Bell today for the first time, and I feel good. My neck feels mobile and no pain. He didn't do a traditional "cracking" of the neck, but used hi-tech tools and techniques to relax my muscles then gently put my spine back in allignment. He also worked on my injured shoulder. Physician: Dr. Gary Bell is an amazing chiropractor. He really listens to your problems and helps you develop a plan of action that will work for you. He has quite a few different modalities available (as he would joke, "Gotta have the toys!"), ranging from traction, electrical muscle stimulation, cold laser, and more. His spinal adjustments are very precise and gentle, and he does an excellent job of manual (muscle/tissue) therapy as well. He's a very active person, and I have overheard friendly chitchat with other patients catching up on surf, paddling, and sports. He has suffered injury in the past, which evidently translates to being a better doctor and more understanding of the patient's perspective. He's a very nice, caring person and makes sure you feel comfortable while getting treatment. When you are treated by Dr. Bell for any length of time, you'll find you look forward to your appointments, which are relaxing, enjoyable, and bring an overall sense of wellness each time you go. I'm actually a little sad that my treatment is coming to an end! Happy I'm doing better, of course, but I'll miss my weekly appointments. They also have a massage therapist available as well, but I have not personally tried that service. Office Environment: Very friendly, personable front office staff. Small waiting room with 5 chairs and an assortment of updated magazines, including National Geographic, my personal favorite. Not that you really need them, as the wait is never very long. Dr. Bell treats multiple patients at once (the most I've witnessed is 2), but you never feel neglected in any way. Some modalities require 10-15 minutes of usage which does not require constant attention. Office Location: Pretty convenient, located on King Street right before the underpass before the beginning of Waialae Avenue, around the corner from the Hawaiian Humane Society. Conveniently down the street from Glazer's Coffee, giving me an excuse to stop by there since I don't have much reason to come by this area other than my chiropractor appointments. The office is in a small two-story building with not much parking, but I always took the bus (which stops about 30 feet away at King and Church Street) or bicycled here. Only gripe about this building is there are only stairs and the office is on the second floor, which is not the greatest thing in the world when you are injured, but I was told the office may move at the end of its lease to a more accessible location due to the owner never putting in a promised elevator. Insurance/Price: Takes all types that I am aware of. I was referred here by my orthopedic specialist who is treating me for injuries from a car accident, so my insurance was no-fault car insurance (not managed care... NEVER get managed care, I used to work in insurance, trust me, you want to be able to go to choose whatever doctor you want to see if you get injured!). Not sure about price if you were to go without insurance, but I will find out and update. Overall: If you are looking for a good chiropractor who is empathetic and caring, then I strongly suggest you make an appointment with Dr. Bell. He will in no way take advantage of you or feed you BS to get more appointments. Always gives you information straight and direct. His goal is to get you treated, improved, and back to your normal life! He's very encouraging, but remember, you can't expect miracles! Physical rehabilitation requires a considerable amount of work yourself in physical exercise (for which there is no substitute), physical therapy, and other treatments depending on your injury. From my experience (car accident at age 6 and seeing a chiropractor for 10 years and still having back problems), chiropractic care is best in conjunction with physical therapy and strengthening exercise. Dr. Bell will constantly remind you to keep moving and get active, because that is the best way to recover from injury. Healing from injuries takes energy and time, but you can get help along the way at Spinal Dynamics! read more
