I am here in vacation and slept wrong. My hips were so twisted and in pain that I could not walk or stand up straight at times. My family would go out and I would stay in bed. Have been coming to Dr. Taira for a couple years and he and his staff is always friendly and wants to make sure that your needs are being met. Dr. Taira will ask you how the body is and will see what is going on. He doesn't judge especially if you have fallen off the bandwagon with stretching and doing what he advised to get you back on track. If I have other requests he will check them out too. All you need to do is ask. I would recommend getting on a plan if you are not because having a regular alignment is needed and times. Office is really clean and he is really quick with the visit. Dr. Travis Taira is awesome. I moved from Pearl City, and had a regular chiropractor in Pearl City, but with the rail and traffic, it's just not feasible to continue with that Chiropractor. After asking a few friends, I was finally convinced Dr. Taira sent me for x-rays to get a better idea of what was going on with my spine, and my neck is doing what one of those pictures showed, my neck was leaning forward, rather than it's normal curvature. I've never need the services of a chiropractor before so of course I searched Yelp for customer reviews. Taira Chiropractic had many great reviews from satisfied customers so I made the call. Like with any specialized doctor there is always a wait list for new patient intake. The receptionist (RG) was very kind and professional as she explained the new patient process. The next day RG called me and said there was an cancellation and would I like to come sooner, yes! Dr. Taira was very patient as he listened to my story explaining how I wound up with back pain. He explained very clearly what is happening to my body and why and what treatment is recommended. I was experiencing pain and difficulty moving about and Dr. Taira was careful to ensure that I was comfortable as he proceeded with the treatment process. I have to say that I am one of the few skeptics when it come to chiropractors ... I remember going to see one yeeeeaaaars ago ... and walking out of there 2 hours later and $50 bucks lighter, not feeling so different. So in my mind, I honestly didn't think they were of any use to me. Many many years later, finding that my geriatric body needs help with aches and pains, I sought out a chiropractor. Funny thing is I didn't have to look far, because he is a client of my employer. Win!!! Plus, he's a great person that's so easy to get along with. So, when I found out that he's on my list of doctors for my insurance, I called his office!!! I spoke to Kawehi, who is the most sweetest person!!! She is such a really cool person to talk to! She helped me with paperwork and such. They are located in Moiliili, above Down to Earth on the 3rd floor. First appointment is getting to know your aches and pains and what he can do for you. He also sends you for x-rays to get a better idea of whats going on. Which by the way, I have a cervical disk degeneration (I think that's what he said :/)... meaning my neck protrudes forward from the extensive computer use. Also, my right shoulder is lower than my left. That's from when I attended Maryknoll .. We could never leave books in the lockers there, so we had to carry all of our books to and from. Hence the sloping shoulder. Now, here's what flipped my mind! Don't know if some of you remember me saying that I have tarsel tunnel on my left foot. On my first visit to see Dr. Taira, he adjusted my foot. Yeah, you heard me. He - adjusted - my - foot. And guess what. It hasn't hurt once since that day. I'm pretty amazed by that since it hurts at least every other day. Ya know? To think the podiatrist had me spending bank on their things (which never really worked much). Annnnd ... I have been sleeping so much better at night. My migraines that I get very often have been dwindling and I'm not popping Excedrine like its candy anymore. Yay!! Mind you that today has been my second appointment with him. And I still have nothing negative to say about his services!! I had my adjustment and like the first time, hours later I want to crash. Some may say that I'm singing my praises too early but, positive things have happened and I am loving it! He takes insurance, just call Kawehi and ask her. Being a new patient and first time visit to Taira Chiro, I was extremely impressed with both RG the receptionist and Dr Taira himself. Both were super friendly and knowledgeable with all the questions I'd asked. Dr Taira has a very good and easy way of explaining what he is doing and how it's going to help your back or hip, in my case. He is also the only chiropractor who spent time with me to explain a couple of exercises I should be doing on a daily basis. I can't really give a star rating bcs I haven't been able to get an appointment. What I will give a review in is the receptionist. I've called several times for an appointment and the first time they called back and said the doctor was booked up. The second time I called I asked for two different dates and again the doctor is booked. That's great that he's booked up which means he's probably a great chiropractor. My disappointment was that the receptionist didn't try and off me alternate dates or times to try and get me in. The receptionist is the first person that someone comes into contact with. I've been seeing Dr. Taira for about a month now, and the service he provides is great! I suffer from back pains, stiffness, and knots...you know...the usual old age ailments that a 30-something starts to experience. After a month of his chiropractic adjustments, I've noticed a significant improvement in my back pain. Even though I never get used to the sound of my own body cracking violently under pressure, Dr. Taira's style of adjustment gives me immediate relief. If you have HMSA insurance, usually co-pay would be $15 and you're covered about 20 visits a year (depending on your plan). Without insurance, it's $45 per visit. After the initial examination, adjustment appointments take only 15 minutes. Parking in the Down to Earth parking structure is convenient and they validate for up to 30 minutes of free parking. The staff of Taira Chiropractic (Travis, Kawehi, and Kelly) are always so friendly and welcoming, and eagerly talk story with you as you sit in the waiting room or on the exam table. I've been to another chiropractor before, and he was okay - nothing special but kinda indifferent and I didn't see the results I wanted. Two of my family members go to Dr. Taira so I decided to try him too. The first thing that surprised me was that he wanted me to get x-rays first before doing anything. It can be expensive if you don't have insurance (luckily my insurance covered 90% of the x-ray fees) but he wants to see what's going on before blindly adjusting you. My last chiropractor never mentioned x-rays. The second thing is that the people in his office are nice! Kawehi (who you'll probably speak to on the phone) and his sister Kelly always make conversation out in the front so it's nice and comfortable. Dr. Taira seems to genuinely care about his patients. I definitely feel better after starting a regular monthly visit schedule with him. I was suffering from off and on lower back pain; he recommended some stretches, and specifically tailored my adjustments to help alleviate my lower back pain. I started working out which has helped as well, but I'm sure I'm throwing my back out of alignment while lifting weights which is why I look forward to my appointments here. They accept insurance here too, though mine doesn't cover chiropractic care. He said he can help figure out a payment plan if need be - which is probably because in the first month, I was going once a week x $45 = expensive, plus the initial visit/consultation was $100 I believe. Travis is great at explaining, however his sessions are way to short. I feel like I'm getting gypped because I am there less than 15 minutes some times. I use to go to chiropractic maybe 10 years ago and I went on several machines even though my spine is much more crooked now... I will probably go back to him though because he takes HMAA which pays for chiropractic. My copay is only $5 with my HMAA plan. read more

Fast and friendly service after I tweeked my back pretty bad a few days into the start of a Hawaiian vacation. Darn hikes to the waterfalls!!! Kawehi (receptionist) was super cool at explaining how it works and gave me a brief outlook of how he see's and handles his patients. My first appointment, I debriefed him on my history and he listened and explained things to me very well and detailed. He sent me to get x-rays (which I never got from any chiro before) and by my third visit he explained my results and set up a plan to work on my corrections. But after months of pain and seeing my medical doctor I finally decided to give it a try. I've been coming to see Dr. Taira for a few months now and I can definitely feel the difference. He uses terms that I can understand and sends me home with some stretches and exercises to work on between adjustments. Dr. Travis Taira and his staff (Kawehi, receptionist) is always nice and helpful. Dr. Taira is always very professional and easy to talk to if you should have any questions. You can tell him what type of problems you may have going on with your back and he will try to figure out how to alleviate your pains. Sometimes, Dr. Taira will offer classes to his clients for a small charge. Anywhere from hiking, to healthy cooking, to rolling class (which I have done). I will need a refresher on this. So he is all about healthy living and seems to practice this his self! He is normally pretty busy, so it would be good to make any appointments in advance.
