ReHouse takes that problem as well as the ethical repurposing of other houses to use. Whether you need an old sink or some doorhandles, ReHouse has you covered. I've even seen things as large as staircases that were rescued from a demolition just waiting to be brought into a new home. You wouldn't know it from the front but behind the store is a generous parking lot ready for you to fill your car up with new salvage to bring home.

We can all agree that lighting stores are the types of places you don't visit on a whim, unless…read morethat whim is tied into your house repair project, for example. That's how we found ourselves at Tuthill Lighting on a rainy Saturday afternoon in search of a sconce for our house renovation. Lights hadn't been on the agenda that day, but boy are we glad we decided to stop into Tuthill and see what we could find. When you walk in (to the oldest operating business on Monroe!), you're surrounded by light. Sconces dot the walls and larger fixtures descend from the ceiling. With all those choices, you would think that you'd get overwhelmed right away, but we didn't. Somehow, we found exactly what we wanted right away. Bruce, the owner, helped us out and put together a wishlist for us so we could keep track of what we liked and emailed it to us when we were done. I can't say enough nice things about the customer service. Talk about making the customer want to buy something from you! I don't think it's a spoiler to say that we went back to the store and bought our sconce. Bruce arranged for it to be delivered to our house and since our contractor was here, he installed it right away and it looks amazing. I will definitely go back to Tuthill Lighting for our next light purchase, whenever that may be. Best customer service ever, to say the least. Plus, when you get a chance to shop local, why wouldn't you take that opportunity?

Working for a school district we have to comply with sate and local purchasing and bidding rules. This time was for a 20 amp dual switch for heater/fan bathroom exhaust unit, which I can order on AMAZON and/or through Home Depot...... "ahh, Crown Electric will have it"...we all say... ah NOPE!- denied again!! This again is one of about 3 disappointments over 2 years from a self-proclaimed specialized, home-town, electrical supply store. And after talking to 2 parts techs there NEITHER one offered to order it OR make any attempts to help me secure the switch. It was just 'we don't have it sorry, bye'. Again, this is the most recent of 2 other past similar experiences. Well, they have lost me as a longtime customer. They are just an overrated Lowes or HomeDeport trying to do everything and getting worse at all of it!!! And with even less customer support, if that is even possible!!

I needed work done on two of my ceiling fans, some track lighting, and outlets (to get them up to…read morecode). I called two electric companies, Magee and another well-known one. The other informed me that the did not give quotes ahead of time for the type of work I described, and that I would be charged $137/hour + materials, and that they would just take care of everything when the arrived. Uh... tell me that doesn't sound like a recipe for running my wallet empty! On the other hand, Shayne of Magee Electric was happy to stop by and spent over an hour surveying the work that needed to be done. He wrote me up a very clear estimate, with a very clear breakdown of possible material costs (not really marked up at all!) and hourly rate (which was about half that of the other company). When he came to do the work itself, he brought an assistant to help out. He was super patient in answering all my questions and really knew what he was doing. Incredibly reasonable rate for quality service. They stayed past lunch so I ordered them a pizza which they really appreciated (and even adjusted my rate slightly for a discount -- Shayne's really so nice!). They were super professional and even insisted on taking their shoes off when they entered and even took out the pizza box for me. They really went above and beyond! Magee Electric is a business started by Shayne's father (grandpa?). It's local and family-owned, so another reason to support them! I'm definitely know I'll use them for any electrical work I might need done in the future.
