Good selection of lighting. I found service to be friendly. Not exactly sure about other options in Rochester, but I can't imagine any other place with a bigger showroom. I was impressed that they refunded me money back when I found the same product online for cheaper. It was hassle free, they just asked for the source and then credited my card with the price difference. Good customer service there. read more

I've probably revised my opinion of Maynard's a dozen times - it took some time to get to know them. Now I realize the sum of their OK-good showroom, decent library of catalogs and number of suppliers, and attentive and helpful staff are a 4-star combination. Before visiting I expected good things because the facility is large, but when I first walked through the door I was disappointed to see a lot of empty space - I expected the showroom to be overflowing with different lighting elements. Also, the most prominently displayed fixtures seemed overwhelmingly uninteresting and poorly differentiated from one another. It was hard to look beyond these pieces, but I made myself walk around the showroom and carefully look at everything on display. I'm glad I did, because there's more here than is immediately obvious, and there are interesting pieces tucked in among the standard issue snooze-fest items. I found the track lighting display particularly good at hiding the number of options and variations it contained - I was in danger of underestimating this section. When the showroom proved more interesting than expected, but still didn't contain that special something, I was prepared to label it an instance of close-but-oh-well and move on. Talking with one of the representatives (against my better judgement) turned me around, because he responded by whipping out the catalogs. Catalogs, and a wide counter and unlimited time to peruse them. The special something was found, and a pair were ordered, and it felt great. Unfortunately, the manufacturer's quality control left a lot to be desired. At home the fixtures worked and there were no dings or scratches, but the color on the shades was uneven and the two shades didn't match each other. I figured Maynard's would blow off this complaint, but they didn't - they instead orchestrated return and reorder cycles until a couple of acceptable shades were found. Their level of customer service was consistently high, and they were always courteous and professional - it made an impression. read more

Maynard's was purchased by VP Supply--so far no improvement. Expect to be ignored when you've placed a "will call" order on the HVAC/Plumbing side. Which is odd terminology meaning calling in advance for a pickup. I'm also an authorized reseller/service provider so I can imagine how they treat the general public. Waited 15 minutes and no one acknowledged me at the counter. Not even eye contact! No "We will be with you shortly." Zip, nada, nothing. They often pull the wrong part which can be a huge problem if you live more than 20 minutes away from the place. They DON'T pull the parts in advance and hold it. They wait until you've waited your 15 minutes then take another 15 minutes to pull it at which time you cash out. Customer service is NOT their forte. read more

Horrible system for working with customers. I ordered a fixture and went to pick it up only to be told I needed to wait online for salesperson all of whom were working with people planning their entire home lighting plan. If you order something there should be a pick up counter. I will be canceling my order and ordering the same fixture online and have it delivered. read more

Ordinary electric fixture selection, which is forgiveable, but the counter staff is unhelpful, unknowledgeable, and brusque, which is not. I expect they're mostly used to dealing with contractors, not the general public, so an "if ya don't know 'zactly what you want, why ask me?" attitude is the rule. Usually, they say "wal, I never heard of that" if they're unfamiliar with an item and WILL NOT consult catalogs or stocklists unless you pointedly ask them to do so; then they do it as if you asked them to unblock a drain. They're the store of last resort, or really, no resort. read more

The selection of light fixtures is good, much better than the big box stores, which is why I went. The customer service...nonexistant. All four of the "salespeople" (I use the term loosely because none of them were eager to help me, let alone try to sell me anything) were sullen, unfriendly, and cold. Maybe it was because I wasn't dressed as a wealthy local; it was clear, however, I was there to buy. The $200 worth of merchandise I purchased wasn't worth their time perhaps? So unless you make it obvious to them you are someone to be reckoned with, do not expect any help or advice. After my experience, I was told that Maynards is known for this type of service. I assume they get away with it because there are not many choices in the area when it comes to light fixtures. read more

How do you give ZERO stars? 7 messages left - no return calls. Order was done with extra payment for expedite shipping - no follow up by Maynards. Then when a kinda-of-snotty message is left from them that it's in - surprise, it's missing a piece. They didn't even double check the order. It sat there for a week without them checking or calling. Really? They blame it all on the vendors, but I got the shipping info. Service at the desk is very iffy. Follow up poor. Showroom looks impressive when you walk in - but you soon realize, it's really not. I really hope I don't need more electrical updates in my house.....I do not want to give them another dollar. read more

Called 10A.M. Saturday 9/1/2012 to talk with someone about replacing circuit breakers with arc fault circuit breakers. It took over 8 rings for someone to answer the phone. When someone finally did answer, I was subjected to someone with a condescending attitude. I will never do business with this company again! read more

I am very disappointed with Maynard's. Previously I had purchased 6 outdoor Murray Feiss lights from Maynard's and today I returned to purchase 4 more and to look for lighting for my new house currently being built. I was completely ignored until I went up to the counter to ask for help. I told the sales girl what I was looking for and what I paid for the same lights that I had bought there previously. She rudely said that prices go up and I couldn't get the previous price. She then went to her computer and decided the price she would charge me by looking at competitors web sites. Really, she showed me the sites. She then told me that she had to order the lights and it would be 6 to 8 weeks for the lights to come in because they were not in stock and I would be better off ordering online. The competitors web site that she showed me advertised free shipping within 3 days. Why wouldn't I order online? I like to shop locally but the horrible service that I received today and the higher prices made me go home and order the exact same lights online. You can be sure that I will not be purchasing any other lights from Maynard's either. read more
