I always did what I want at Mayers...and for less $ than the bog Box stores!!!! Shelf brackets was my latest purchase...Perfect size and less expensive! read more

I finally made it for a visit, and on Small Business Saturday no less! Before heading over, I called to check if they had what I was looking for--and they did. The person who answered was very helpful, which was a big plus. The entrance is on the side with the small parking lot. Once you walk in, the store seems to go on and on. They've got everything you could need for home improvement projects, even the smallest ones. The staff on the floor were friendly and knowledgeable--another big plus. I liked the idea of supporting a local business for what I needed instead of going to a big-box store. That said, you might pay a little more for some items. I'm also thinking of calling to see if they offer knife sharpening--another local hardware store I know does this. The inside is just what you'd expect from a hardware store: neat, tidy, and well-organized. Definitely worth a visit! Parking can be tricky, with a small lot and some street parking available. read more

Mayer Paint & Hardware - Outside - Hardware Stores Near Me - Rochester, New York

Best paint selection and knowledgeable staff. Explained which product should be used for various projects. Great experience.

They are always so nice and helpful ! Everything I need is right there and around the corner from me!

Our local Ace hardware has the most amazing employees. They are helpful and kind and knowledgeable. Then to top it off this seemingly small storefront has literally everything you need. If it happens to not be in stock they get it for you quickly. They have helped me change my 100 year old home into a little treasure. read more

As just one example of service, we ordered a snowblower online and picked it up at Mayer's. The process of picking it up at the store went perfectly and quickly. I trust when I go here that the employees are available to help and quite knowledgeable. This place is a gem. read more

It's very convenient to have a local store like Mayers in North Winton Village! You might not find everything you need and prices are higher than other stores like Home Depot and Lowe's etc BUT it's also very nice for not having to drive to Home Depot and Lowe's to save, well, time, effort, money and energy! I'm a regular at Mayer's and I'll keep shopping there. The staff are helpful, there's always someone who can help there. read more

I agree the employees are great. However, the owner wrongly denied me using my rewards discount twice. Once saying that my purchase items were on sale and excluded. They were not. Once telling me that my item was specifically excluded. Ace confirmed that it was not. Ace made a correction for me. I will shop elsewhere read more

Very helpful and understanding staff. I came in to find some replacement bolts and washers and they helped me directly on finding it. Definitely would come back for any future hardware/repairs I need. read more

The help on the "floor" is nice, all except the women cashiers and the owner! Rude!!!! It doesn't allow to rate with no stars, but that's how I would rate this place! No stars! read more

What a wonderful place. That old hardware store -family owned kind of feeling - place. Always happy with their service and quality of items I get here. Overall, can't reccomend this place enough! Very happy! read more

Best Hardware store ever. Thank you. Staff the best, store has most anything. This hardware store has been there as long as I can remember. They update the store often to showcase new products. Easy to ask for assistance if needed. Will always go there first for our work projects or tools. read more

A friend introduced me to this great little store this morning... I walked through the door and back in time! Small rooms in an old building, each nearly organized with different departments of a hardware store that reminded me of the small town, locally owned stores of my childhood. It even has the friendly service that is so often lacking from the big box home centers. It's a little out of my way and maybe a bit more expensive but I believe in supporting local. This my new, go to hardware store! read more

I have always liked Mayer Paint & Hardware. From an extremely well stocked store to the most friendly group of sales people. Old school tradition lives on with Mayer's Paint & Hardware. I stopped by yesterday and in every aisle I walked in, someone asked if they could help me. The employees know what they're talking about, they have a pride in their job. NOT like many of today's sales people in big stores who have attitudes. There inventory is massive from tools to paint, to basic hardware needs. For the home owner, to the contractor, you name it, they have it, or will get it for you. Tom Thorpe, the paint manager and I were talking and he said: "We have so many products here, none of us know where everything else, but always one of us knows where something is. Dennis, the General Manager of Mayer's is a 16 year veteran with Mayer's. He keeps the machine running. He is very personable, good with customers and his employees. I bet Dennis knows where 99% of the inventory is, LOL. One sales person there by the name of "Jake" definitely is a proud employee. I was impressed when he was talking to me during this interview. He told me that Ace Hardware sends out corporate spies to check on stores, and sales people. They run the sales person through a series of questions and answers concerning products, their uses, etc. Jake passed with a 100% rating. Hats off to Jake on that one. From the management team, to the entire work force, everyone at Mayer's knows and practices good customer care. And on final note, while wrapping up this interview, there was a woman cashing out. Tom the paint manager opened the door and offered to carry her stuff to her car. You seldom see this type of courtesy anymore. 5 stars for Mayer Paint & Hardware. read more

I bought a shovel last week And it works amazing and everyone is really knowledgeable on everything I'm a ace customer for life. read more

I purchased a built-in grill from Mayer's. Kolby worked with me to properly size and order the grill. I couldn't be happier with my new grill. This place bent over backwards to get me what I wanted, and they succeeded. I couldn't find this kind of treatment at a larger box store. I recommend Mayer's whole heartedly service, choice, and price, I'm sold on them. Thank you read more

I don't know what changed but Mayers sold me a universal flapper for a toilet and it wasn't universal. It didn't fit my toilet and they wouldn't take a return for credit even though I was buying a part that would allegedly work for my toilet. I have never had that experience at a hardware store. I have spent hundreds of dollars at Mayers but I will take my business elsewhere. I will never shop there again. read more

I love staying local. And I LOVE Mayer's. It might be pricey, but I definitely try to pick up hardware here when I need. My dad is always stopping here to pick up odds and ends for my house when he's fixing things. The staff are always unbelievably helpful, cheerful, and knowledgeable about all of the products. BONUS: There's a puppy!!! read more

We have been practically living at this place as we get our new home in shape. Knowledgeable floor staff, excellent selection. We couldn't have done it without them. Yay Ace Hardware and Mayer's! read more

Mayer's is THE place for clueless wanna-be handymen like me. Whenever I'm looking for a thing-a-ma-jig, they point me in the right direction. ALSO! important! If you need to match up paint, they have the chops to do that. Superb... one of the true gems int he area. Great popcorn too! read more

It's a 30 minute drive to this location from my house. I have one closer, but Meyer in particular not only did they create a very nice BBQ section, but after swinging by to pick up my favorite Rockwood Charcoal, they have completely expanded the BBQ section, seriously, these guys have everything! Then add on top of that, the incredible service & respect that everyone employed there gives every single person that walks through the door. It's a perfect example of what the big box stores can't do, and why it's so important the we as customers support this, and take the big box store off your first stop list, give em a visit and understand why, you won't be sorry... read more

What an incredible place. If you can't find what you need anywhere else this place will have it. Having a house from the 1920s era most of what I need to fix/repair can't be found in the big stores - which are designed for post WW2 era homes. Highly recommend to anyone. read more

This place is the best. Instead of wandering around for half an hour in home depot or lowes trying to find something, I can be in and out in a minute if I know what I want. Staff is helpful and friendly too. read more

Every time I need some type of hardware or home improvement item, I immediately groan thinking of the drive out to Lowes or Home Depot...then I slam on the brakes and remember Mayer which is right down the street. Why drive to the burbs and deal with massive parking lots and impersonal salespeople? They have anything and everything here that that average person would need in a hardware store without the behemoth numbered aisles and the endless choices. You walk in and the smell of popcorn greets you, right before one of their helpful employees appears out of nowhere. Seriously everyone that works there is so friendly and knowledgeable. I especially appreciate how diverse the staff is, representing all different ages and backgrounds. Their hours aren't as flexible as the box stores are, but I will always choose to come here first. Thanks for serving the neighborhood! read more

This neighborhood hardware store is an absolute gem. Excellent customer service and a wide range of diverse products. Gardening tools, seasonal items, paint, varmints removal, kites, pet items, individual nuts/ bolts, local metal art work too. You. Could spend an hour just browsing and prices are reasonable. Customer service make this place well worth the trip. Free popcorn, customer's reward cards and other personalized treatment. Love this place and the staff. Go, see and shop. read more

The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. I came in with super small paint chips and they were able to match the color perfectly. They were very nice and professional, and the process only took 5 minutes. They also gave me some good suggestions for future projects! read more

I love Mayer's because there's always plenty of friendly staff asking if you need help and I'm always in/out in a quick amount of time. They couldn't have better customer service when something was wrong, too. 10000x better than the big name stores! This is always going to be my go-to spot. read more

Best hardware store you will find in all of Rochester. Customer service is top notch, you will never have to find an employee to ask where something is. They are right there as soon as you walk in offering help. Prices are fair. The best part of this store is it has all the feel of a local family owned store so you know your hard earned money is going to the right spot. As long as I live here I'll never go anywhere else. read more

Neighborly, Professional and always eager to assist as soon as you walk in the door. Unlike the large box stores you can find those unique items. Love our neighborhood store! read more

Our family has been patronizing this wonderful store since I was a kid. It has always been a 5-star experience from getting keys made, to finding household repair & maintenance supplies, to getting the lawn mower tuned up. I can't think of a time when they were out of stock with something I needed. An the staff is always happy to provide a wealth of information and tips to get the job done right. They are the best. The customer service cannot be beat. It's why we still go there even after we've moved away from the Browncroft & Cobbs Hill neighborhoods. Sometimes I just stop in to browse when I'm nearby to remember the good ol' days. It's worth the trip to avoid the big box nightmare. read more

One of the friendliest businesses I have visited. I entered the store, looking entirely lost as I didn't see any signs as to where the key cutting area was. One of the employees immediately asked me what I needed and directed me to the back of the store. The store was unexpectedly large and seemed to be well stocked. The employee who copied my key did it quickly and I was in and out in well under 10 minutes. If I ever need anything hardware related, Mayer will be my first stop. read more

This is the friendliest little store you'll ever find. And I don't mean to be negative in saying little. It's small in a good way and the selection and inventory is quite surprising. Yes, it's not Home Depot or Lowes but I'm quite frankly amazed at what you'll find here and the advice you'll get. Contractors from all over the area recommend Mayer when it comes to paint. I've done an extensive amount of remodeling over the past several years and in my work, I refer a lot of people to contractors, suppliers, etc. When you ask people about paint, the bigger names like Hadlocks comes to mind and yes, they do a nice job, but the gnelteman who runs the paint department at Mayer is the one they'll always tell you to go to when you have an issue or a real question. He is solution oriented and won't oversell you. Nobody is more knowledgeable and helpful. That's why you see a constant stream of business coming into this place. And it's not just from the neighborhood. I drive 20 minutes right past Home Depot to get there and I'll do it every time. I had to go yesterday to pick up some stain and seeking a solution to bust some really stuck lug nuts on my zero-turn mower blades. I was all set to pay $120+ for an impact wrench and they would have been more than happy to sell it to me but instead, they suggested an $8 alternative which was a 3' length of iron pipe to provide the leverage I needed to bust those nuts open. It worked, and as a consequence dinner with friends that evening was essentially free. And by the way, they always have free popcorn and coffee. Try finding that at Home Depot or Lowes! read more

I find it truly amazing that this store has everything you might ever need and more. It's like shopping on Amazon, but with friendly, knowledgeable staff. And free popcorn besides. You tell them what you are trying to do and they'll come up with solutions and the tools/parts to do it. Can't wait for the road construction to finish. It looks close! And an Aldi will eventually be built across the street. 2 stop shopping. read more

Small hardware store that still manages to cover all the basics But it also covers a basic that most large hardware stores lack nowadays, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. It is sad that in this day and age, going to a hardware store and getting one's questions answered quickly and accurately is considered a rare gift. Luckily for me, Mayer is close to my house so I don't have to drive far to get what I need. read more

Pardon my 90's lingo here, but this place is THE BOMB. Before I had ever been to Mayer's, I always had the perception that small, local hardware stores were never worth going to because they are pricey. I'm happy to say that Mayer's has changed my mind. The few times I've been here, I always feel overwhelmed because there seems to be so much stuff in a rather small-ish space. But! I am always greeted rather quickly with someone asking me what they can help me find. Customer service for the win! Also, they have a popcorn popper there & always have bags of fresh, free popcorn for the taking. Way to win me over, Mayer's! read more

Why would you even shop at a Home Depot or a Lowes? This is how all hardware stores should be, actually all retail should be. Always has a great selection with fair prices and amazing friendly customer service. Even if I did not live in the neighborhood, I would travel to shop at this store. You can see why they have survived all the big box stores moving in and around the city. read more

Love this place. My daughter just bought a home nearby. I send her here all the time as the team is very insightful, trustworthy and helpful. They work well together and spend the time you need to offer sound advice to help you with your home improvement project. read more

My family has been going to this hardware store my whole life. It's always very easy to find someone to help me, and they are experts in answering any question I have ever had. When my license plate came loose from its plastic frame, a store clerk showed me how to disassemble the frame and drill pilot holes for the new screws, which he then helped me find in the correct type and size. He spent 20 minutes with me for a 60 cent purchase. They also have a great variety of products, including some things I have purchased for my gardening business that I have not seen in any other stores. There is a good range from cheap and simple to professional grade. My only complaint is that I wish they were open a little later on the weekends. I hate having to go to Home Depot when I break a tool or run out of grass seed (or whatever) on a saturday or sunday afternoon. read more
