I needed 2 screws, 1 eye-hook, and 1 regular for my Out-Door trail-cam when I hang it in the woods. I didn't need a pack of 6, or a bag of 12. So this eliminated most stores. But Black's Hardware fit the bill. I've been going to Black's for many years. I use to go there a lot in my real estate days. I remember Mr. Black he was a great guy. His sons now run it and do a good job. They generally have most things you need like the old fashion town hardware stores did when I was growing up. One thing that I like is, they still have the bins for screws and nails where you can buy 1 or 2 at a time. The store is neatly stocked with a little bit of each. read more

I like to support small businesses but what's been going on in Rochester lately? Customer service seems to not be a priority. I went here for a piece of plumbing hose. Even had a pic on my phone to show exactly what I needed. Asked the man standing behind the counter for help and right away he had an attitude and acted as if he has never seen or heard of this product. Um, it's the most common plumbing item in the world besides a toilet I would imagine. It says PLUMBING in huge letters outside your business. So he starts looking around-- finally finds something similar -- but not exact, I asked him a question and he answered it with s flippant, purposely obtuse response. So I said , "Thank you--I'll go somewhere else where they are more helpful" and left. I went to Mayer's and they were extremely helpful. I will not be going back to Blacks- even though they are close to where I live. Who needs the attitude? Ridiculous! Below is a pic of what I was looking for - common plumbing item. They really should cross plumbing off the side of their building if they don't know what this item is! Or hire more polite, knowledgable clerks! Maybe my small purchase is bothersome? Who knows. Just no reason to treat any customer rudely when they are coming to your store to spend money. read more

Have been in there many times with old plumbing parts, the counter guys can usually ID the part at a glance then find you the replacement parts in stock.. Black's is FANTASTIC! While trying to change the faucet on my old claw foot tub I ran into a number of unexpected problems! I first started out at home depot for supplies, but then found myself at Blacks... They were SO helpful! One of the gentlemen worked with my to try and fix my issue, suggesting many different options and was conscious of my "limited finances" that I had to work with. After four trips, I'm happy to say the new faucet is in place and I can't thank Black's enough for their help! PS. I don't have anything against home depot, but because Black's is a local independent store, they can do things big companies just can't. If you want TRUE customer service and real expertise, Black's is the way to go! read more

I've been going here for a while and I went there yesterday to get three pieces of plexiglass cut for Windows I'm repairing.I did receive a little bit of an attitude from The Man behind the counter and also the other one was very friendly almost to friendly if there is such a thing and he cut my window pieces and I did not bring a tape measure with me as I left it at the job site. I noticed as he was cutting the plexiglass which is behind a wall in the rear of the store he was talkin to somebody and also he was looking out at the store behind the wall the whole time you was cutting as if he wasn't paying attention..I asked him if he measure twice and cut once and he said oh yes you're all set LOL woman I got back to the job and tried to put the window in they were an inch too small on each side so he just totally wasn't paying attention and caught them wrong. so tomorrow which is Monday cuz they are closed today on Sunday I will be going and seeing if they will cut the right size pieces and I will give an update to this review and see how their customer service is LOL other than that when you need something small or one of something instead of a whole box or a whole package this is the place to go it's also close to where I live but you have to remember a lot of times when kids take over stores from their parents especially if it's two kids you always have the nice one and the one that's a jerk and you always have to accept that the store will never be what it once was when the original owner ran it AKA daddy LOL... read more
