I needed work done on two of my ceiling fans, some track lighting, and outlets (to get them up to code). I called two electric companies, Magee and another well-known one. The other informed me that the did not give quotes ahead of time for the type of work I described, and that I would be charged $137/hour + materials, and that they would just take care of everything when the arrived. Uh... tell me that doesn't sound like a recipe for running my wallet empty! On the other hand, Shayne of Magee Electric was happy to stop by and spent over an hour surveying the work that needed to be done. He wrote me up a very clear estimate, with a very clear breakdown of possible material costs (not really marked up at all!) and hourly rate (which was about half that of the other company). When he came to do the work itself, he brought an assistant to help out. He was super patient in answering all my questions and really knew what he was doing. Incredibly reasonable rate for quality service. They stayed past lunch so I ordered them a pizza which they really appreciated (and even adjusted my rate slightly for a discount -- Shayne's really so nice!). They were super professional and even insisted on taking their shoes off when they entered and even took out the pizza box for me. They really went above and beyond! Magee Electric is a business started by Shayne's father (grandpa?). It's local and family-owned, so another reason to support them! I couldn't recommend Shane and his crew more. He is extremely knowledgeable, has a great eye, and loves what he does. He is an excellent communicator and is very collaborative. We can afford to do one big job a year on our house that needs a lot of updating. We deliberated about what we would pick this year- it's tempting to pick flooring or painting the walls, before lighting. However we made the right choice, the lighting completely transformed the space, making some rooms look bigger, adding higher functionality in a work space, and creating ambience and style. He replaced multiple fixtures, swapped out fixtures and bulbs, added chandeliers in the foyer and installed recessed lighting - all for a great price. read more

Shayne is an awesome guy, a knowledgeable electrician, and could not be easier or more pleasant to work with. I was getting quotes for a large electric overhaul at my house I purchased last year and received multiple quotes from many reputable local companies. Fortunately, Shayne was referred to me by a friend, and after meeting with him it was clear he would be the one to do our work. My girlfriend and I had tons of ideas, and Shayne patiently and thoroughly walked through our new-homeowner jitters and gave us awesome perspective from his experiences. On top of it all, his price was the lowest and he included items that he thought would be valuable to us - and they were. He and his guys came in and did an awesome job; we couldn't be happier with the work they did for us. Magee is now my go-to for any electric needs. I used Magee Electric for a repair job on some non-functioning circuits in my house, and I'm very happy with the service that I received. While he was unable to provide an estimate for the troubleshooting, in the end he came in and got the job done quickly, professionally, courteously, and affordably. There were only two opportunities for improvement. For the estimate visit they arrived past the scheduled time, and during the repair visit, they left an exterior door open when they left. The points are minor, however, and I have no problem recommending this company. The true test of the quality of a company is this: If I need this service again, would I use the same company? I used Magee Electric over 10 years ago now. Why post a review? Well I need some work done now at another place, and all three prior jobs Magee completed were done right and I have had no problems. One was a major main box replacement , and adding a generator panel. I already had the generator, But Shayne worked with it, politely providing his advice. Yep, he was right, probably should not have bought that 'deal' from the big box store as it failed twice early in its life, but Magee electrical work was great. Second, he wired a post and beam shop for me, and there were certain practices I wanted him to follow to be as 'period correct' as possible. No complaints, done right and he went above and beyond to respect the architecture. His team had fun doing it, vs complaining like others may have. He trains his assistants well. He also troubleshot an install done by a friend, that had issues. He found and corrected the problems quickly and cost efficiently. Exceptional! I needed a very old bathroom vanity mirror replaced. Because it had lights attached, I needed to contact an electrician to remove it and install detached lights above a new medicine cabinet I bought. After contacting several contractors with no success, I was lucky enough to find Magee Electric. Shayne was wonderful and agreed to take a look at the pictures I emailed. He promptly responded and advised that he would send his electricians out for an estimate at my convenience. Dominick and his fellow electrician arrived in a timely manner after contacting me before hand to let me know they were on the way. They arrived promptly and were both friendly and professional (asked if they should remove their shoes!) After I showed them all the work that needed to be done (remove old cabinet and lights, replace with new one, add overhead lights, replace switch with dimmer and modernize outlet to code), I did not think they would do all the work as part was a non electrical project (medicine cabinet). I asked if they would be able to do one of the jobs and to my pleasant surprise they agreed to do everything - an at extremely fair rate. I was able to save even more money when Dominick explained that the dimmer switch I purchased for installation was only needed if I planned to install the maximum wattage of the light fixture (300 watts) which I did not.
