We ate here for breakfast a few days ago, while traveling through, at the recommendation of a friend.
Pros:
1.) Good service, we had a friendly and engaging waitress.
We got here early (7:15am) on purpose to avoid waits outside. We were seated instantly. Definitely started filling up within the hour+ on a Friday morning.
2.) Decent array of tasty GF options.
I had the Peanut Butter Cup pancake and it was excellent. This were perfectly cooked and prepared, with just the right amounts of everything, not too sweet, ideally balanced. I'm not sure, if I didn't know, that I would have thought these were GF, they were that good.
Their GF options were the end-driver in us electing to try Jam, and I was pleased with the outcome.
3.) Charming building with exposed brick, clean inside, bright colors, cute aesthetic, you can watch staff preparing food from an open kitchen.
4.) Nice presentation of food.
5.) Their heirloom potatoes were lovely, beautiful presentation for breakfast.
6.) Drip coffee was good, well balanced between acidity, bitterness, and sweetness. Loved that they served it with an ample amount of half n' half! I'd get all of the above again.
Cons:
1.) The hazelnut latte I ordered was particularly mediocre.
Served in a cappuccino cup, maybe 4-5oz of coffee and cream, and made with the wrong distribution of espresso, steamed milk, and foamed milk on par with cappuccino, not a latte. It was over-steamed, bitingly hot. I would not order this again.
2.) My wife had the Chicken and Biscuit Benedict.
Parts of it were very good, parts of it came up short. This set it up to = missing the mark for her. We are from the southeast, so our palate for chicken and biscuits is well honed.
The biscuit and gravy portion was good, the chicken was terribly overcooked (dry, hard, difficult to chew), and the hollandaise a tad too sweet. This resulted in a funky combination of bites that didn't work.
Now some of this is preferential (hollandaise sauce) -- but the chicken is what knocked this down to something she wouldn't get again. You can't have the star of that plate fail, like that. They'd do much better to either serve it with bigger pieces of chicken that aren't as easily over-fried, or serve it with chicken on the bone, to help retain essence and moisture.
Either way, this one needs some rethinking.
3.) This is also preferential (flavor-wise), I ordered the sausage patty as an add-on to my pancakes. I was a little leery of ordering it because one patty is $5.00, and in my experience, folks west of Kentucky/Ohio/Tennessee can't season sausage to save their life. This tasted like quality meat, but it wasn't seasoned meaningfully in the least, beyond some salt.
It is my preference to have a well seasoned sausage, otherwise you get hit with something extra hoggish in scent and flavor, that just doesn't suit the palate.
I wouldn't order this again, without major modifications to the flavor, and truly think if they'd manage this with a bit of sage, thyme, garlic, red pepper flakes, and pepper, they'd sell out of it. They have a good meat base, but it needs a touch of the lord to help get the flavor resurrected.
All in all, we would return.
And would try more things on their menu when in Bozeman agian. read more
