The food was amazingly tasty and wholesome - like homemade. One in our party of five is vegan and the rest are vegetarian. And we all found such good choices on the menu, even some dishes we had never tried before. The best part of our visit was our waiter, Joseph. What a kind and patient man, and so hospitable. He treated us like friends and was wonderfully attentive. The atmosphere was cozy. The only downside was that it was a little too hot because the air conditioning couldn't handle the above-100 degree temperatures outside. But I will definitely go back as soon as I can. I discovered the original Jaipore Restaurant in Brewster back in the late '90s, and they were easily the best Indian restaurant around. Then they opened Jaipore Express in Ridgefield. If the original was a 10, the Express location is a 15--the food is simply exceptional! While the spot itself is tiny and geared primarily toward takeout (which we order at least once a week), you can taste the dedication. I placed a to-go order from here for dinner over the phone, though they do offer online orders and delivery services, as well. It's nice that there is parking out back and that it's easily accessible from Main Street, too. Inside was really clean and cozy and they do have some sidewalk seating, as well. I got the Iddly appetizer, which is never had before. The rice cakes were really delicious and came with a kind of veggie soup/stew to dip it in, plus a coconut chutney. I actually liked them with all the flavors together or just alone. For my main I tried the Tadka Daal. This was a vegan curry and I did really enjoy it, though I wish it had more flavor. It was definitely mild and tasted very similar to what came with my rice cakes. They also threw in a rice pudding for dessert, which was lovely bonus! Amazing. Best Indian in Fairfield county. I once lived in London, where Indian restaurants are ubiquitous. Jaipore measures up in every way. Not sure why they chose "Xpress" in their name...it's not fast food or counter service, but rather a nice sit-down restaurant, in a quaint location in downtown Ridgefield. Yes, they do a brisk takeaway business but it's such a nicely appointed dining room, I think it only makes sense to dine in and enjoy the ambiance. We shared three entrees: saag paneer (spinach with cheese), lamb vindaloo (spicy braised lamb stew) and chicken tikka masala, along with daal (puréed lentils) and garlic naan. All first-class delicious. It's now on my "must return" list and should be on your Fairfield County bucket list. Friendly staff too! read more

We had a chance to go eat at Jaipore Express tonight (we've had take-out previously which was also quite impressive) and I wanted to share what a wonderful experience we had for anyone who hasn't yet had the chance to try the food. It was seriously the most flavorful Indian cuisine we've had yet! Service was exceptional as well. We tried a few new things this time: Samosa chaat and wings for an appetizer followed by butter chicken, onion naan, and my favorite lamb vindaloo. Every dish was fresh, complex, and carried the exact amount of heat and spice so that my tastebuds are still singing. The chaat was incredibly flavorful! The vindaloo is quite spicy but the balance of flavors was just perfect. Little slices of ginger added a great dimension. Loved the butter chicken as it was a nice complement to the vindaloo. I'm very glad we have another chance to relive this tomorrow as we had to take out the leftovers. We highly recommend this spot for a great meal! read more

Read about this new Indian restaurant in the news and decided to give it a try. The place is only doing take out right now, but the restaurant is a nice looking place next to Bailey's Backyard in Ridgefield. My first reaction is that the food is good, but not outstanding. I had the samosa chaat, saag paneer and Salmon moilee. Of the three, the salmon was the best. The fish was cooked well and the sauce was rich and complex with many layers of flavor. The saag paneer was merely average. The paneer was a bit chewy for my taste. I felt a bit of sticker shock on the price of the food. Not sure if it is because of inflation or just their pricing, but I felt like they are around 10% more expensive than other Indian restaurants in Fairfield county. I may give it another try to see if my first impression was a bit off. read more

So I stopped by Jaipore on my way home from work one evening, because it had been a while since I had enjoyed a nice Indian meal. Since I like food on the hot side, I ordered the lamb vindaloo, which is a delicious spicy dish, and the way it was prepared did not disappoint. it was accompanied by a healthy, helping of delicious white rice, and I also ordered some plain naan. This is one of the best take out options in Ridgefield! My wife and I have tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, the Chicken Saag, and the Chicken Korma and they are all amazing! The chicken is moist and tender and the sauces are complex and beautifully seasoned! This is our go to spot if we are are looking to order lunch on a weekday. They offer a great lunch special on Tuesdays-Fridays (closed on Mondays, which we've forgotten more than once). Orders include the dal of the day, a large piece of naan, and rice (which is cooked with amazing spices and is super flavorful by itself). Prices for the lunch specials run from $12-$16. I was thrilled when I saw Jaipore Xpress, as I drove by and said "I gotta try that place". So I ordered delivery tonight and the food came piping hot and delicious. They have some nice exotic dishes that I was thrilled about, being an Indian food aficionado. Not just the standard tandoori chicken. (though good tandoori chicken is hard to beat!) Im so glad they opened here in Ridgefield Connecticut as I believe the other closest Indian restaurant is closed now. I would happily have given this restaurant a higher rating based on its savory food. That I was buying only as take out, because the restaurant space itself is nowhere I would want to hang out for an entire meal. Though I was ordering several times a week for the first 6 or 8 months, I found at some point that the check-out people were spinning the pay screen toward them to check on my tip. (And then give me a look to let me know.) Really? He'd try to shame me? Let me tell you, I am a world traveler who has dined in every kind of restaurant. The best in New York, Paris--you name it. I tip between 35-50% for excellent table service because I appreciate very much when a restaurant treats me well. However, for takeout, I tip between 10-15%, because what am I paying for? What special service is involved in putting food in a bag? At Jaipore Xpress, you pay top dollar for decent Indian takeout. But where is the service that is worth more than 15%? Do you tip grocery store baggers? I don't. So I stopped buying food at Jaipore. I do not need or want instructions on tipping from the people who work there. Evidently they don't understand the difference between table service and bagging. And frankly, I only spend my money where I am respected. (And I give that respect in return.) read more

It's located in the center of Guilford. They are a small but very neat and clean restaurant with nicely spaced seating. The owners and waitstaff are friendly and very helpful. We had lunch here and we can safely say that this is a fine place to enjoy a lunch of Indian food. I strongly recommend ordering from the "Xpress Lunch" menu, which has a large selection of vegan, chicken, and lamb entrees. These are served with fresh-out-of-the oven naan, basmati rice, and finished off with dessert. We tried the Gobi Manchurian (great), the Chicken Vindaloo (deliciously spicy hot), and the Chicken Tikka Masala (delicious and nicely prepared). Portions are ample. This was the third time I've eaten at Jaipore xpress and each time has been wonderful with incredible service. This time started with three vegetarian appetizers and they were all wonderful though one was just spicy enough for my son's taste but a bit too spicy for my aging stomach. Main dishes were all excellent but more than we could finish so we took home tomorrow's lunch. They have a wide range of choices and each of us had a different entree and again, all were excellent. I used to frequent Jaipore in Brewster but after they sold the quality was not there. I found the place, Jaipore Express in Ridgefield. It brought back memories from the original owners of Jaipore.
