    Lamb thali

Amazing food and even better service! We tried the chicken momos and the lunch special lamb thali and Himalayan fried noodles. The thali is massive and hits the spot with its variety of curries and dal. If you're craving authentic street-style noodles that taste like India, these are it. Just a heads-up: the momos take a little extra time to come out, but they're worth the wait. The ambiance is great and the lunch specials are a steal, though general pricing is a bit on the higher side

Five out of five momos and stir-fried beef-chicken-egg noodles. Wow!!! Got a seat outside on the street and people-watched the whole Sono art fair while feasting on a divine set of momos. Would come here every week if I lived nearby. Shoutout to Duke who was so helpful with our ordering and very kind. 5 stars!!!

The dining in experience was lovely. We were welcomed right in and sat next to a large speaker. The music was great, but the speaker was so blaring loud that I could not hear the person across the table from me speaking. The server happily let us move to another open table so we could enjoy our meal better. Speaking of the music, it really was a nice touch to the dinner. I expected to hear something more traditional but it was all acoustic covers of well known music. The meal was fabulous, everything came out just right and didn't take long to come out. I first tried Himalaya for take out, and while the order was fine, I had some issues with the phone call. They wouldn't accept a coupon I had, but worse, the girl on the phone repeated every detail of my credit card (number, exp, cvc) out loud. I would appreciate that changing or better yet, let me just pay when I pick it up.

I couldn't wait to try this new addition to the heart of South Norwalk. Himalaya Sono is a Nepalese style restaurant with live music as you dine. My favorite part was the live music. The duo that night were such a delight to listen to. They sang beautifully and covered a variety of classics. Although the service was quick, the food was a hit or miss. To start we ordered the momos, which were a type dumpling that each came filled with a different protein/stuffing. The chicken momo was my favorite. Another appetizer we enjoyed was the chicken chili. Always a favorite for me and wished it was offered as an entree. For an entree we ordered a plate of The lamb curry to share and unfortunately we were disappointed. We found that it lacked taste. I wish the tables were bigger too. It was such a tight squeeze for just one plate and a couple drinks. They have a lovely outdoor area that I would like to experience this summer as outdoor dining is always a plus.

I went here for my birthday and I want to say it's my new favorite restaurant! The food was absolutely amazing, we had a prawn starter, a vegetable curry, and a shrimp noodle dish and un-friggin-believable!!! The service was fantastic, the staff are so kind, the chef came out and he's so humble, they had live music in the background, very serene, they came out with a fanfare to sing happy birthday to me! If you are celebrating anything, including life itself, GO HERE! You will love it!

Such a gem in SoNo! Not only were the food and drinks delicious, but the staff was incredibly accommodating. We had made a reservation and got stuck in some traffic, knowing that Himalaya closes for a mid-day break at 3:30. We managed to get there before they closed but were still dining during the break, as was one other group, and they didn't make us feel rushed or forgotten about. Truly a level of service you don't see too often anymore! The momo set was delicious, and we enjoyed the sauces to pair with them. Great drinks as well, and the seafood sizzler was a generous portion. The dining room was beautiful, and they had a nice outdoor area as well. We can't wait to come back and try more of their menu!

Amazing food and even better service! Every dish was full of flavor and clearly made with care. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, making the whole experience feel warm and enjoyable. I'll definitely be back!

We're local Norwalk residents so we decided to try the recently opened Himalayan Sono and wow, they did not disappoint. Anthony (owner) and Mohan (waiter) were very attentive, friendly and helpful with introducing us to their menu. The restaurant had a nice open space for indoor or outdoor dining, live music on Saturday evening that had casual cool vibe. The food, cocktails and service were absolutely amazing !! Cocktails weren't watered down like other places. We wanted strong drinks and that's what they gave us. The chicken dumplings and sauce were outstanding. We're glad we dined here and are planning to come back for more. We highly recommend Himalayan Sono.

Absolutely coming back. I stopped in solo for dinner before a show, and I'm still thinking about this place. The staff were warm, the space was peaceful, and the food was phenomenal. I had the mushroom chili appetizer and the spicy vegetable thali -- everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. You can tell the kitchen actually cares about what they're making. Had to take it to go because of timing, and the manager/owner personally checked in to make sure it wasn't because something was wrong. It wasn't -- this place is friggin' awesome. Just had a show to catch. I'll be back soon when I can sit down properly and enjoy it the way it deserves. Highly recommend.

We came here bc our train was stuck and south Norwalk was the last stop the train could go. Honestly super glad it did stop because we got to try Himalaya Sono. A must get are the momos (chicken is the best) make sure you get it with extra sauce. We also ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was also super tasty. The garlic naan is prob one of the best textured naans I've had (super fluffy but also a little crisp but not burnt) Every single person who helped us were all super nice.

If you happen to find yourself in SONO and you want an incredible experience head on over to Himalaya Sono for an incredible meal, beautiful ambiance and a welcoming and wonderful staff. We had a chance to catch up with the owner and get an inside look at why this place earns a 5 all the way around. The entire staff hails from Nepal which provides an unparalleled authenticity. And the food, absolutely incredible with well balanced flavors that can bring the heat we love!! The momo's are unlike anything you will ever taste so they are must to start the meal. We had the steamed version and they left us excited for the entree which did not disappoint. We had the Himalayan Curry and Veg Mahkini with a side of garlic naan that was light and flavorful. All the entrees were well balanced and so good we had zero room for dessert but I did sneak in a mango lassi which was smooth and light which paired perfectly with our meal. We will be back to try more of the menu for sure, and if you like music they have nightly Nepalese entertainment that will make you feel like you just took a trip around the globe to Nepal.

    Coconut Chicken and Beef Thali

Nice ambiance. Attentive staff. Very reasonable prices. Short wait time for our food, which worked out great because we were at risk of running late to an event. I had only put an hour on the parking meter, but we were out well before that. We enjoyed our dishes. They were flavorful and punchy. Glad that they have a spice level preference because my daughter has zero tolerance for heat whereas I like to sweat a little with my meal. She got the coconut chicken and I got the beef thali. I question the authenticity of the menu a little, but not a big deal when the food hits the spot. Most Asian restaurants lean a little towards fusion to appeal to a boarder audience. In summary, I would recommend Himalaya Sono if you're in the area.

what time is this? oh 8:45 ... I guess the owner is lying (or his staff is)

Such a mismatch between expectations and actual experience ... On my rare monthly "night out", I thought I had found a gem ... I read 30+ reviews ... I was excited ... I knew the kitchen closed at 9:30 according to the website, I called for reservations on a Saturday, and they said kitchen closed @ 9 ... I set a rezzy for 8 (showed up at 7:55) so as not to unduly inconvenience the staff Ambiance good ... Table, very small - barely adequate for apps, glasses plate ... mediocre western cover band live music - fine, not too intrusive or loud First shared dish based on recco's - Lamb Chili - you've got to be kidding me!! ... hard chippy protein (think jerky) - not sure if it was lamb - bathed in ketchup with a serving of mushy par-boiled veg ... It was kind of me not to send this $18+ "dish" back ... Honestly, I debated taking it home to serve to my dog ... It was disgusting Entree - Tandoori Shrimp ($27) ... better than the app but 8 unspiced, unsalted, overcooked/rubbery medium sized shrimps served on the same bed of par-boiled veg as the app - at least no ketchup ... nothing to recommend ... *definitely* not cooked in a tandoor ... passable, but just barely OK - Maybe a bad night for the kitchen - excusable The part that was *inexcusable* is that at *8:45*, the lights went full kleig, the bill was presented, payment demanded and clean up of neighboring tables commenced ... think mopping, loudly collecting plates/utensils/etc ... at least they didn't put up the chairs ... we had barely been served our "food", still had full drinks ... It was uncomfortable to pleasantly try to choke down the sub-par dinner, much less have a desert and polite conversation ... at *9:10* we were literally told "the restaurant is closed, please leave" ... Keep in mind this was a Saturday night - several hours before "the snowstorm" ... We left at 9:15 despite what the owner says below and I have the receipts ... we were NOT there past 9:15pm This is a long review, edited multiple times due to the business trying to LIE to readers ... Reviewing the timeline ... Arrive at 7:55, order at 8, "food" delivered at 8:30, payment demanded at 8:45, asked to leave at 9:10, kicked out at 9:15 ... I've eaten at truck stop roadhouses with orders of magnitude better service This was a once and done for me ... I cannot fathom how this place got such good reviews unless my experience was *uniquely* atrocious

The aloo dam was tasty and flavourful, and it would have paired wonderfully with rice or some sort of bread. The veg momos were steaming hot and fresh. The sauces that came with them added a lot of flavour: I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed the momos as much without them. The veg thali came with rice, greens, dal, cauliflower gravy, aloo dam, kheer and pickles. The dal was the standout item. It was my first time trying Tibetan butter tea, and the server warned me that it would be a little salty. The tea had a lovely nutty flavour and thin consistency. I enjoyed it from the perspective of novelty, but I'm not sure if I'll get it again. The server was extremely sweet and service was prompt. The ambience was very pretty, with Tibetan bric a brack and art on the walls. The music was also very soothing. One caveat however is that the food is very, very light and simple, and probably not one immediately thinks of as being "restaurant food" - it has a homemade quality to it.
