I had a great experience coming to this pastry shop. They were all delicious. Also tried the matcha and it was good. Service is excellent.

I became obsessed with matcha after I came to Matcha Zanmai for the first time. I tried their latte…read moreand cakes, but the Signature Zanmai is in my opinion the best item on their menu. Not only does it come with matcha ice cream, it has red beans, chunks of matcha cake, matcha jelly, and some rice crispies inside. It's texture heaven for people who like a little bit of everything. Though the rice crispies do get a bit soggy because they are on the bottom, so if I suggest trying to get to the rice crispies sooner rather than later! It's a pretty small store so it's not a hangout spot, but more of a place to pop in to grab a treat and go walk around the city. I miss this spot and wish they had a location in the US.

Craving real matcha desserts? This place delivers. We tried the Glacé Pilée Zanmai (shaved ice),…read moreParfait Zanmai Signature, and Parfait Gâteau Matcha. Each one was delicious, showcasing rich, smooth matcha that isn't overly sweet or bitter. Definitely a spot for true matcha lovers. Asian desserts are usually not sweet so this is expected and well executed. The place itself is small with very limited seating, and there were only two people working behind the counter who looked understandably exhausted. Parking is street only, and it gets busy, so expect a line. Overall, a great spot for high‑quality Asian matcha desserts and well worth the wait.

My friends know that I love desserts, including cheesecakes. I've been known to order dessert first…read morefor dinner or many slices of cheesecake in one sitting at the local Cheesecake Factory. It goes without saying that when I first saw Uncle Tetsu in my feed that I was beyond intrigued. Combine that with a general awareness of Japanese-styled cheesecakes, I was eager to come here but reluctant to stand in line, especially during a Montreal winter. Luckily, my sister had already been here (although she did get lost even with guidance from Google Maps) so she led the way. The storefront, located near Shaughnessy Village/ Concordia University, is tiny, reminding me of some doughnut shops in downtown Chicago. The front of the store accommodates one line so if you get claustrophobic, best if you send in a friend. From the line, you can see the ovens where the cheesecakes are baked and the counters where they are stamped and cooled. During the holidays, a Santa is stamped onto the cheesecakes. The line was mercifully short, especially before the holidays, and it moved quickly because there isn't a huge selection to trip up the undecided of the world. We soon left with a tiny cheesecake, enough to feed 4, in its distinctive red and white box, and 4 honey-flavored Madeleines. The fresh-from-the-oven cheesecake was light, in taste and texture, and fluffy. I liked that it was not as sweet as the cheesecakes I more accustomed to tasting, nor as heavy. The Madeleines had a coarse crumb and a crunchy crust. It, too, was subtly flavored. My sister especially appreciated that the small operation creates their products on the premises, rather than shipping them in from another location.

Best of all, they now have a chocolate cheesecake offered on Mondays and Tuesdays only. Same pricing at $12.This dark version has the exact same texture and consistency as the original but with a delicious hint of cocoa. It tastes more like a regular fluffy cake to me and has less of that cheese or egg flavor. Great addition and worth a try. I also see that Uncle Tetsu now takes pre-orders if you buy 10 or more cakes.

A really nice place to get a mango themed dessert with friends. I haven't tried too many items here…read morebut their mille crepe is good! The mango one is their best, I had the oreo one too and it's meh. My friend had the Mango watermelon sago with pomelo and rice balls and she thought the mango was a bit sour though. On the second visit she said it was a bit better. Service is nice here and it's a comfy place to sit.

Cute, aesthetically pleasing dessert spot!…read more They offer more than just mango desserts here, but I will say the mango is a definite winner! Their mango offerings are all quite nice and reasonably priced too! We got the mango item A1 (mango with juice, sago, and ice cream) and a red bean soup. The mango with juice, sago, and ice cream was very fresh! Everything is wonderfully mangoy with such fresh flavours and strong mango taste. Amazingly sweet mango chunks that could rival the ice cream in the glass. I'm a huge fan of mango, so this was amazing! The red bean soup isn't very sweet at all. The red beans used are not "mushy" or paste-like, which isn't necessarily a good thing. The beans are frankly quite solid, but it depends on if you like that--so I can't necessarily fault them for preference. I prefer my red bean soup a little more mushy, with some soft beans, not this seemingly microwaved dessert. Other than that, the dessert itself tastes nice. It's almost plain since there isn't a strong sugary flavour, which does remind me of more traditional iterations of this dessert. Their mango items are definite winners! They are probably the best value of the bunch here too!
