In addition to those found in the freezer, there are some located in the case, along with a number of Italian cookies and pastries. While there is an assortment of cakes on display, we tend to always gravitate to fruit-topped ones, like the one we recently purchased, the Diplomat cake. It featured three thin layers of sponge cake with fruit-laden custard as the filling between the cake layers, topped with more fruit. Since we were celebrating a birthday and Father's Day at the same time, the counterperson added well wishes on a satin ribbon to the cake. We were done with our purchase in less than 15 minutes and were soon on our way. At home, the light and flavorful cake was large enough to feed the crew, and then some.

I tried out the chocolatine and it is pretty big in size. It was very soft, fresh and filled with chocolate. Almond croissant was just as good, super sweet with plenty of filling. Cheese danish was soft and creamy with a generous amount of cheese and not too sweet. The tomato & cheese pizza had a generous amount of sauce and cheese, it wasn't dry at all and super tasty. Hoping to make another trip and try out some of the pastries along with the many flavors of pound cakes they have.

Service was friendly and efficient. As for the goods themselves... sigh. Everything was very pretty visually (Japanese-inspired for sure), but too sweet overall for my tastes. I was expecting the toned-down sugar levels that I expect from Asian sweets, and was disappointed to find that Sachère Desserts' insides don't quite match their outsides, so to speak. The hojicha tiramisu was the one exception - the sweetness level was toned down, which allowed the roasted bitterness of the tea to really shine.

We dropped in on a Thursday afternoon (around 3:15pm). It's small inside but holy crap, it was hotter than a boiler's room. Zero ventilation. Didn't find service the friendliest. That being said, they have some beautiful looking pastries (mango and jasmine pavlova caught my eye) in the $4.00 to $9.00 range. Pints are pricey at $16.00 (500mL) but there's some really interesting flavour combinations. - Vegan passion fruit & cantaloupe sorbet twist ($5.50) - twist came with a thin piece of vegan passion fruit chocolate. Both sorbet flavours were bright and refreshing. It's a tiny portion so you aren't getting value here but the quality is good. Watch out as it melts quickly. On the fence whether I'd go out of my way to come back to SD. 3.5 stars.

Thank goodness I had a friend who pointed me in the right direction. Spanakopita- love the flavor of the fresh spinach, would have enjoyed it more if it were a little less salty. Cheese pastry- delicious. Chocolate cake- my fave. Moist and not too sweet. Mocha cake- very mocha. Like tiramisu but coffee. Boston crème- ok so I usually don't like Boston cream but the custard was amazing Ok then there's the small foil wrapped thingies. I don't know what they were but they were amazing. Do not skip over them. Must order. Will definitely be returning to this amazing and historic bakery!

We dropped in on a Wednesday afternoon (around 5:00pm) and it was nice to see it wasn't too busy. The inside is spacious and has everything imaginable. There's baklava, cakes, pies, sausage rolls, cookies, bread, cannolis, pastries, etc. Take your time and browse around. They still have no labels or price tags. We had to ask what each type of cake was and the worker wasn't helpful; she responded with curt, short replies. - Coconut and macadamia nut cake ($32.00) - a coconut base with a layer of whipped cream (legit), chocolate and topped with macadamia nuts. Light but will still satisfy your sweet tooth. We would have liked to see more prominence in the macadamia flavour. Afroditi is still a solid place in my books.

Boulangerie Guillaume caught my eye unexpectedly. I was intrigued, and since I can always go for some carbs I decided to head in and check this place out. Unlike most bakeries I visited, Boulangerie Guillaume has a much more modern look, and is larger than a standard bakery. Walking in, I was immediately greeted by stairs which led up to the main production area. All of the bakes were arranged on the back-wall perimeter of the space separated from the pedestrians by a glass wall. The color scheme was mostly black to contrast the bright yellow of the bags and signage. The arrangement of the bakes, combined with the color scheme and modern aesthetics, resulted in a stunning, visually striking presentation. I wasn't too hungry, but I can always go for some sweets and their date square looked good. I went with that, along with a cappuccino. The square was delicious - the dates were high quality, and the crust underneath was moist while maintaining its integrity. The cappuccino was also good, a great complement to the bake. Service was efficient, and overall I had a great experience at Boulangerie Guillaume. I definitely want to return to explore more of their menu - I noticed they had some savory items so perhaps for some lunch. Definitely one of the best bakeries I visited in Montreal.
